Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the role of parents, especially the role of the father which cannot be ignored. This study aims to see parental mediation given by fathers and mothers to children when using gadgets. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study research design. Data collection uses in-depth interviews and field notes involving three parents who have children aged 2-5 years in Harjamukti, Cirebon City which were analysed using grounded theory. The results of this study indicate that parents discuss, search, choose, and explain content that can be accessed in active mediation. Then, in the restriction mediation, parents provide restrictions on time, content, application, and distance. Co-viewing mediation is a way to increase closeness with the children and avoid excessive use of gadgets. Thus, parents collaborate on active mediation, restriction mediation, and co-viewing mediation to regulate and manage their children's use of gadgets.

Abstract

This research explored the expectations, experiences, and challenges felt by Preschool and Primary school teachers. The expectations, experiences, and challenges teachers face can be considered for policy direction, implementation guidelines, and developing transitional preschool learning methods more contextual to real-world conditions and needs. The participants in this study include three lower primary school teachers and two Grade B kindergarten teachers. The research approach used is qualitative-descriptive. The research findings indicate that teachers have expectations that the preschool-primary school transition process is not solely the responsibility of preschool or primary school teachers. Still, there should be continuity and a shared perception between preschool and primary school teachers to ensure a seamless transition process. The experiences and challenges teachers face in teaching children during the transition period include dealing with students with different characteristics, which requires teachers to analyse each student's specific needs, especially when they encounter difficulties during this transition

Abstract

Trends and Challenges in Environmental Education for Young Children: A Systematic Literature Review. Objectives: This study aims to systematically review and synthesize research on environmental education for young children with a focus on identifying global trends, pedagogical approaches, implementation challenges, and future directions. The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview that informs future research and practice promoting sustainability education for young children. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using international databases (Scopus) to collect and analyze peer-reviewed articles published over the past decade. Inclusion criteria covered studies focusing on environmental education in early childhood, addressing both pedagogical practices and conceptual frameworks. The selected articles were analyzed thematically to identify prevailing trends, strategies, barriers, and recommendations. Findings: The analysis reveals a growing interest in early childhood environmental education, marked by a significant increase in publications after 2020. The study is dominated by the participation of developed countries rather than developing countries.  Four main pedagogical approaches have been set: experiential-based learning, garden-based learning, storytelling with an ecological project theme, as well as project-based learning. Regardless of the profit, several challenges persist, including limited access to the green room, inadequate educator training, and an inconsistent framework for measuring ecoliteracy. This finding also highlights the scarcity of longitudinal studies, which limits our understanding of short-term effects. Conclusion: Early childhood environmental education plays a crucial role in promoting ecoliteracy, social-emotional development, and pro-environmental attitudes. However, this sector still confronts a conceptual gap, methodological, as well as significant geographic.  Tightening the educator training, integrating sustainability in the curriculum, and carrying out more fundamental, inclusive, long-term studies to work on environmental education in early childhood effectiveness. Keywords: environmental education, sustainability, young children.

Abstract

This study addresses the critical transition from Early Childhood Education (PAUD) to Elementary School (SD), focusing on the development of a mobile application to support parents during this phase. The transition significantly impacts children’s social, emotional, and cognitive readiness. Conducted in Babakan Ciparay, Bandung, the study employs the Research and Development (RD) method using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) framework. The sample consists of 150 parents of children in group B kindergarten/RA/equivalent and grades 1–2 SD/MI/equivalent, representing the transition phase. In-depth interviews were conducted with six parents to gather qualitative insights. Over 50% of parents demonstrated awareness of the PAUD-SD transition, but their understanding highlighted a need for accessible digital guidance, often sourced from the internet. These insights informed the creation of the PAUD.int application. Evaluation using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and System Usability Scale (SUS) indicated high usability and acceptance of the app, confirming its effectiveness in supporting parents during this transition. The PAUD.int application has the potential to improve children's readiness and enhance parental engagement during the transition. However, challenges such as device compatibility and registration processes suggest opportunities for technical and functional enhancements. The development of the PAUD.int application demonstrates the value of digital tools in facilitating smoother PAUD-SD transitions. Future studies should explore further technical improvements and interactive features to expand its impact on parental support and child readiness.

Abstract

Hateful behavior, driven by stereotypes and prejudice related to ethnicity, gender, religion, politics, aggression, and sexuality, frequently manifests in educational settings. Addressing these issues in early childhood is crucial to fostering inclusive environments. This study employed a quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-assertive training intervention in reducing stereotypes and prejudice in early childhood education. Seventy children were sampled, with 20 children each assigned to an experimental and a control group. The findings reveal that children, even at a young age, exhibit stereotyped behaviors of low intensity, and some demonstrate prejudice. The CBT-assertive training intervention significantly reduced these behaviors in the experimental group. Notable outcomes included a marked decrease in stereotyped behaviors and a positive shift in attitudes among children who participated in the training. These results suggest that CBT-assertive training is an effective method for reducing stereotypes and prejudice in early childhood education. Incorporating this approach into early education curricula has the potential to promote social and emotional well-being. CBT-assertive training holds promise as a practical strategy for fostering inclusivity and addressing bias in early childhood. Future research should examine the long-term impact and broader applicability of this intervention in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Computational Thinking (CT) is widely acknowledged as a core competency in 21st-century education; however, its integration in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is limited by the absence of systematic teacher development frameworks. This study conducts a systematic literature review of 12 peer-reviewed articles published between 2016 and 2025, sourced from ERIC and Scopus. The analysis focuses on identifying and categorizing existing teacher development models for CT in ECE and examining their implementation and outcomes.Three categories of teacher development models were identified: (1) unplugged play-based models using concrete manipulatives; (2) plugged models emphasizing robotics and block-based coding; and (3) hybrid models integrating concrete and symbolic learning through scaffolding and debugging. Implementation is primarily embedded in daily classroom routines (75%) and supported by peer collaboration (17%), while parental involvement remains limited (8%). Outcomes are predominantly cognitive, with significant improvements in CT skills, problem-solving, and geometric reasoning. Affective outcomes, such as motivation and engagement, show moderate gains. Notable gaps include the lack of validated assessment tools and limited longitudinal evidence on professional development design. This review advances the field by proposing an ECE-specific taxonomy of teacher development models that connects pedagogical approaches with cognitive and affective outcomes. It highlights the importance of a concrete-to-symbolic learning trajectory, sustained professional coaching, and structured home–school partnerships to support developmentally appropriate, scalable, and sustainable CT integration in early education.
