Abstract

Friendly feelings should be applied to students, especially to school members who are very heterogeneous or diverse in terms of ethnicity, religion, skin color, customs, and race. This study aims to describe the sense of friendship or the character of this friendly feeling as students' social capital in school diversity. This research uses a quantitative approach to the type of survey at SMAN 10 Mataram in the Social Sciences department. The results showed that the social studies students, both male, and female, had high friendly feelings. The character of friendly feelings is supported by the application carried out by Sociology teachers through multicultural education with the design of learning models based on local wisdom. The local wisdom that is applied is the local wisdom of the local tribes, such as the traditional song of the nongak lizard, betemue culture, and weaving which can foster a sense of friendliness between students so that it becomes a habit to be able to appreciate a difference. Differences in things that must be disputed will make students collaborate and work well. Local wisdom can be the basis of educational practice.

Abstract

Problem-Based Learning vs Inquiry Learning: Strategies to Improve Students' Sociological Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills. Objective: This study aims to analyze the comparative effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Inquiry Learning (IL) models in improving the Sociological Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills of high school students, as well as to explore the significant contribution of the comparison of these two models to the sociological pedagogical literature in the 21st century. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach, involving two randomly selected treatment groups from grade XI students. The total number of research participants was 72 students. The main instruments used were pretest and posttest measures of Sociology Literacy (30 multiple-choice questions) and Critical Thinking Skills (7 essay questions). Inferential data analysis was carried out using Covariance Analysis (ANCOVA) with pretest scores as covariates. The use of ANCOVA is essential to statistically control differences in students' initial abilities and validate the pure impact of the learning model. Findings:  The results showed that the PBL Model was significantly more effective (p < 0.05) in improving Sociological Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills compared to the IL Model. This advantage was confirmed by the substantially higher adjusted average (Adjusted Marginal Means) in the PBL group for both outcome variables. Conceptually, these findings show a superior fit between the directional problem-solving framework in PBL and the demands of complex sociological reasoning. Conclusion: Problem-Based Learning is the most effective instructional strategy for cultivating analytical skills and critical thinking in the context of Sociology. The PBL model is successful because its directional scaffolding structure and cognitive conflict are more effective in training critical sub-skills such as contextual analysis and evidence-based decision-making. This study recommends the sustainable adoption of PBL by Sociology teachers to foster robust learning that aligns with the demands of global socio-analytical competencies. Keywords: problem-based learning, inquiry learning, sociological literacy, critical thinking, 21st century.

Abstract

The lack of tolerance is one of the threats to societies rich in diversity. This phenomenon still often occurs in diverse societies, including among students. Character building is one of the things that needs to be done by every educational institution, including tolerance. Every educational institution is responsible for strengthening tolerance through both intracurricular and extracurricular activities. This study aims to analyze the strengthening of tolerance through intracurricular and extracurricular activities. The approach used in this study is descriptive quantitative with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires. Educational institutions play an important role in strengthening tolerance in students. Intracurricular and extracurricular activities have made a positive contribution to strengthening tolerance in students, both through knowledge and implementation. Character education through intracurricular and extracurricular activities can prevent the weakening of character in students, including intolerance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of integrating traditional games as a medium to strengthen the noble akhlak of senior high school students. The dimensions of noble akhlak refer to the Pancasila Student Profile, including the dimensions of religious akhlak, personal akhlak, interpersonal akhlak, environmental akhlak, and national akhlak. This study uses a mixed-method with an Explanatory Sequential Design where quantitative studies are used as a reference to deepen the process through qualitative studies. Quantitative data collection techniques used questionnaires, while qualitative data collection techniques used semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and learning document analysis. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative analysis, and the significance of pretest and posttest differences was tested using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Qualitative data analysis used the Miles & Huberman interactive model, which was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This study quantitatively showed an increase in the average pretest and posttest scores for all dimensions, albeit within a small range. The learning intervention provided significant, uneven changes across all akhlak dimensions. Based on the qualitative studies, the results also demonstrated effectiveness in strengthening akhlak, particularly in the dimension of akhlak toward others, as it improved the quality of interactions between students and fostered meaningful learning experiences relevant to local culture. This research requires further research, particularly on the development of more accurate instrument evaluation with more complex learning designs and systemic support for sustainable implementation.

Abstract

Abstract

Children’s character development cannot rely solely on formal education, it also requires direct cultural and social experiences. Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) serves as a nonformal learning environment where traditional arts and character education are integrated. This study aims to analyze the role of SAU in strengthening character education through traditional art activities. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with managers, instructors, and child participants, as well as documentation review. The findings reveal that angklung training and performances foster discipline through routine practice, teamwork through coordinated group performance, responsibility, tolerance, and cultural awareness. Group musical interaction also encourages mutual respect and appreciation of diversity. These results indicate that SAU plays a dual role in preserving Sundanese cultural heritage and nurturing the character of younger generations. Traditional arts are proven to be an effective medium for internalizing moral values in a natural and participatory manner.
