Abstract

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is an important plantation crop in the commercial sector as it accounts for 65% of worldwide sugar production. The role of sugarcane is very important in the sugar industry, so it needs to be supported by intensive research, especially for the breeding and assembly of superior varieties to improve the quality and quantity of sugarcane production. The process of plant breeding cannot be separated from the germplasm management program, because it is a source of genetic diversity of a plant species. Characteristics and evaluation of nuftah plasma are one of the activities carried out to determine the potential characteristics of the breeding program. One of the efforts to extract information in empowering the nuftah plasma collection is by morphological characteristics, so that superior plant varieties or accessions can be classified. Morphological characters were observed qualitatively and quantitatively. Each variety of a sugarcane species has a specific morphological description, both quantitative and qualitative traits, then the data base for these characteristics is used as a reference for filtering potentially superior to diversity in germplasm collections.

Abstract

Obstacles that often occur in cultivation of tomatoes, chilies, and tobacco is the occurrence of diseases caused by viruses. One of them is infected with the Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), this virus infection is very dangerous for large red chili, tomato and tobacco farming which results in quite large losses for farmers in Indonesia. Controlling viral infections caused by CMV is very difficult due to the high genetic diversity of CMV making it difficult to obtain resistant types of red pepper, tomato and tobacco, the range of CMV host plants is wide, and CMV can be transmitted by aphids and ticks. non-persistent whiteheads. The aim of this journal review was to determine the pathogenicity of sat-RNA associated with CMV in red chilies, tomatoes and tobacco. Based on the results of reviews from several journals, it can be seen that RNA satellite is effective against CMV infection on chili, tomato, and tobacco plants. Which can be seen by administering the CARNA vaccine to each plant treatment.

Abstract

Banana (Musa spp.) is a leading commodity that makes a major contribution to national fruit production. One of the districts in Lampung Province which has a significant contribution to Indonesia's banana production is Pesawaran Regency. The molecular marker used in this study is Sequence-Related Amplified Polymorphism (SRAP). This study aims to determine the genetic diversity of bananas, determine the suitable combination of SRAP primers to determine the genetic diversity of bananas and determine the similarity relationship of bananas in the Pesawaran District. The total genomic DNA was extracted using DNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Geneaid) according to the protocol from the manufacturer followed by their amplification using SRAP primers. Similarity analysis was carried out based on similarity index values and dendrogram construction using the NTSYS 2.0 program. Research results show that a total of 204 loci (167 polymorphic loci and 37 monomorphic loci) were obtained from 9 selected primer combinations. The genetic diversity of 19 banana cultivars originating from Pesawaran Regency resulted in low genetic diversity values (0-0.27). Banana kinship based on Sequence Related Amplified Polymorphism (SRAP) markers divided 19 banana cultivar samples and 4 wild banana samples into 2 large clusters with similarity coefficient values between 0.70-0.97.

Abstract

Red spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L.) is a commercially valuable vegetable known for its high nutritional content and immune-boosting properties, making it popular among the Indonesian population. However, red spinach cultivation in Indonesia is still relatively low and inconsistent, necessitating efforts to enhance its cultivation. One potential approach is through in vitro culture techniques. This study aimed to investigate the impact of applying mung bean sprout [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek] extract on Murashige and Skoog medium, focusing on identifying the most effective concentration for in vitro growth of red spinach explants. The experimental design employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five concentration levels: 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Each concentration was replicated five times, with each replication consisting of five red spinach seeds in individual culture bottles. Data analysis involved Levene's test, one-way ANOVA, and Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at a significance level of 5%. The findings revealed that the application of mung bean sprout extract significantly influenced the height of plantlets, leaf count, root length, fresh weight, and soluble carbohydrate content of red spinach. The most effective concentration for promoting red spinach explant growth was determined to be 5%.

Abstract

Cogongrass is a plant that contains allelochemicals, so it has the capability to reduce viability and early growth in green bean germination. This study aimed to determine the effect of allelopathy extract on the size and number of root cells in mung bean sprouts. The study uses the Completely Randomized Design with 1 treatment and 5 concentration levels of reed extract and repeated twice. The concentrations of the reeds used were 0% (control), 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The results showed that high concentrations of Cogongrass allelopathic extract inhibited the growth of soybean sprouts based on plant length. Each concentration of reed extract did not show a significant difference in cell length or cell density of mung bean sprouts.

Abstract

Fusarium oxysporum L. is a fungus responsible for causing plant wilt disease in various horticultural crops. Meanwhile, Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.) is commonly known as a weed that contains secondary metabolites with antifungal activity. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of Bandotan stem and leaf extract on the growth of Fusarium oxysporum in chili (Capsicum annuum L.) infected during the germination phase. Evaluation of stem and leaf extract was carried out separately using a one-factor Complete Randomized Design (CRD). A total of four experimental units were used consisting of C+ (sprouts not infected with Fusarium sp. and not given stem or leaf of Bandotan extract), C- (sprouts infected with Fusarium sp. but not given stem or leaf of Bandotan extract), T1 (sprouts soaked with stem or leaf of Bandotan extract and infected with Fusarium sp.), and T2 (sprouts infected with Fusarium sp., and given stem or leaf of Bandotan extract). Each experimental unit was repeated five times, and parameters observed included disease severity, as well as dry and wet weight. The results showed that based on ANOVA test at the 5% significance level, the administration of 60% dry Bandotan stem extract to chili sprouts before Fusarium sp. infection significantly reduced disease severity. However, when the treatment was carried out after sprouts were infected, disease severity was not reduced. The administration of Bandotan leaf extract to sprouts both before and after being infected with Fusarium sp. reduced disease severity but a decrease in dry weight was also observed
