Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia worldwide is very high, particularly in developing countries, including Indonesia. Adolescent girls are especially susceptible to anemia, with the monthly menstrual cycle being one of the contributing factors. This review aims to synthesize data by analyzing several articles that focus on the prevention of anemia in adolescent girls using the Lawrence W. Green theory approach. Methods: The method used for this article is a literature review of articles published between 2020 and 2024. The sources include Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, with the keywords "Anemia," "Prevention," "Adolescent girls," and "Lawrence W. Green's Theory." After the screening process, 15 articles were selected for review out of the 883 articles initially identified. Results: The findings indicate that individual behaviors vary widely, even among identical twins. Behavior does not always follow a predictable pattern, and the development of positive behavior is not solely determined by knowledge or positive attitudes. According to Lawrence W. Green's Theory, factors influencing actions or behaviors are classified into three categories: 1) Predisposing factors, 2) Enabling factors, and 3) Reinforcing factors. Conclusion: The prevention of anemia in adolescent girls is influenced by factors such as knowledge levels, attitudes, peer support, and the availability of health facilities.

Abstract

Spiritual Wellbeing (SWB) is essential in palliative care for end-of-life (EoL) patients. However, its implementation in emergency settings is often overlooked despite the significant spiritual needs of patients at the end of life. This study aims to describe and explain the concept of SWB in EoL patients in the Emergency Setting. The study used a qualitative approach based on concept analysis of the literature. Data were collected from 18 relevant articles purposively selected from international databases (2020-2024). The analysis focused on the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of SWB through thematic evaluation and cross-referencing. The results showed that four main attributes of SWB were identified: relationship with higher power, inner peace, meaning of life, and active role of family and health workers. Antecedents of SWB included clergy and family support, while consequences included improved patient quality of life and reduced anxiety. These findings demonstrate the importance of integrating spiritual care into emergency setting practice. Holistic collaboration between patients, families and healthcare professionals is key to improving the spiritual wellbeing of EoL patients.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes distress refers to the emotional and psychological burden experienced by individuals in managing their condition, which can influence physiological outcomes and overall well-being. However, the relationship between HbA1c, insulin growth factor-I (IGF-I), and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) with diabetes distress in diabetic patients remains elusive.Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the association of IGF-I, IGFBP-3, and HbA1c with diabetes distress in diabetic patients. Methods: A cross-sectional design with purposive sampling was used to recruit subjects from the public health center in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, from May to November 2021. A total of 30 diabetic patients were recruited for the study. Distress data were collected using the Indonesian version of the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS) questionnaire. HbA1c levels were measured using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Serum levels of IGF-I and IGFBP-3 were measured using the ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit method. The data were analyzed using regression analysis. Results: Most respondents had moderate distress, with a DDS score of 53.4%, a high IGF-I level of 76.7%, and a low IGFBP-3 level of 76.7%. As many as 60% of respondents had an HbA1c level above 6.4%. IGF-I (ρ-value=0.024) and IGFBP-3 levels (ρ-value=0.042) showed a significant correlation with diabetes distress. However, HbA1c levels did not significantly correlate with diabetes distress (ρ-value=0.155).Conclusion: IGF-I and IGFBP-3 levels were associated with diabetes distress, but HbA1c was not. Patients with higher distress were found to have elevated serum levels of IGF-I and IGFBP-3. Future research should focus on stress management strategies that support efforts to prevent disease and complications associated with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

ABSTRACT PCC of patients with diabetes mellitus with heart disease is a patient-focused service with a holistic approach (bio-psychosocial-spiritual) to provide respectful and individualized care, enabling negotiation of care and offering choice through a therapeutic relationship where patients with diabetes mellitus with heart disease complications are empowered to be involved in health decisions at whatever level is desired by the individual receiving care. However, the application of this concept in services has not been comprehensively clarified. The purpose of this analysis is to describe and explain the concept of PCC in patients with diabetes mellitus with heart disease complications. Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used to analyze the PCC concept. Six main defining attributes were identified: “ autonomy support; shared decision making; cooperation and collaboration; communication and education; emotional support, involvement of family and others. The predecessor analysis included several options with different possible outcomes, substantial patient-focused care conflicts, the need to recognize the health situation of patients with diabetes mellitus complicated by heart disease, and the willingness to participate in care. All of these factors are directly associated with different patient outcames and indirectly associated with outcames through patient activation. Kata Kunci: Patient Centred Care, Diabetes Mellitus, Heart Disease

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition that increases the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Self-management is an important strategy in controlling hypertension through the integration of health education, behavioral adaptation, social-psychological support, and identification of patient barriers. This study aims to explore the concept of self-management in hypertensive patients through a literature review supported by case observations. This study employs a qualitative method, reviewing 20 articles published between 2024 and 2025 from major bibliographic databases. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of antecedent factors, consequences, and self-management strategies, which were then compared with three real-life cases of hypertensive patients. Results indicate that high health literacy, strong family support, and adaptive lifestyle changes contribute to blood pressure control and improved quality of life. Conversely, resistance to behavioral change, denial of diagnosis, and low self-confidence are associated with uncontrolled hypertension. This study concludes that personalized interventions combining structured education, behavioral motivation, community engagement, and technology utilization can strengthen self-management skills, optimize hypertension control, and reduce the disease burden in the community.
