Abstract

Elderly postoperative patients experience multidimensional discomfort affecting physical, psychological, social, and spiritual wellbeing. Kolcaba's Comfort Theory provides a holistic framework for addressing these needs. To identify comfort theory-based nursing interventions for elderly postoperative patients and analyze their effectiveness. Methods: Systematic literature review of articles from PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar (2020-2025) using narrative synthesis. Ten studies demonstrated that comfort-based interventions including pain management, emotional support, non-pharmacological techniques, and environmental modifications significantly improved patient outcomes. Physical and psycho-spiritual dimensions were most influential, reducing pain, anxiety, and postoperative complications while enhancing sleep quality and satisfaction. Social and environmental dimensions provided crucial reinforcement. Nurse competency and family involvement supported implementation, while workload and limited resources posed challenges. Comfort theory-based interventions effectively enhance elderly postoperative recovery through holistic, multidimensional approaches. Integration into evidence-based practice is essential for optimal patient outcomes.

Abstract

This study looks at how new migrant nursing students at the Muhammadiyah University of Semarang adapt socially in 2025. Moving from high school to university can be tough, especially for students who are moving to a new place and have to adjust to a different social and learning environment. The research is quantitative and descriptive, and it included 67 participants. Information was gathered through a questionnaire that looked at six areas related to social adaptation. The findings show that most students have a moderate level of social adaptation. Among these areas, social interaction and support were the strongest, but emotional regulation was lower. Universities should work on improving their mentoring programs to help students adjust better in both social and academic settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Some of the problems that arise due to incomplete mobilization, the most common are decubitus ulcers. Massage effleurage (ME) is used as a non-pharmacological intervention that can be given to patients who are immobilized, aiming to keep the skin moist. In the final scientific work of this nurse. The author purpose was to determine the effect of giving ME with Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) in patients at risk of pressure sores. Methods: This case study uses a descriptive method with a nursing care approach. The case study will be carried out in December 2022, in the Rajawali Room 3A RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang on 2 respondents. The respondent's inclusion criteria were immobilized patients for more than 2 weeks with a risk of developing pressure sores. Giving massage with VCO is done 2 times a day for 5 days, on areas of pressure such as the sacrum, scapula, and heels with a total duration of 45 minutes. The instrument used in this case study is the Braden Scale to measure the risk of pressure sores, the fewer scores obtained, the higher the risk of decubitus. Results: After 5 days of intervention, first responders experienced a decrease from a score of 8 (very high risk) to a score of 13 ( high risk), then for the second respondent from a total score of 7 (very high risk) to a score of 9 (very high risk), the higher the score obtained, the lower the risk of decubitus. Conclusions: Administering ME with VCO has a positive effect on reducing decubitus risk scores in immobilized patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on hemodialysis can experience various problems, both physical and psychological due to their disease and hemodialysis therapy. Some of the problems that arise as a result of the most common complications of hemodialysis are fatigue and anxiety. Lavender aromatherapy is used as a non-pharmacological intervention given to hemodialysis patients with fatigue and anxiety, to control and maintain quality of life. This nurse's final scientific work aims to determine whether there is a decrease in patient fatigue and anxiety by administering lavender aromatherapy. Methods: The case study uses a descriptive method with a nursing process approach. The case study was carried out in January 2023, in the Hemodialysis Room of RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang. The inclusion criteria for study subjects were patients undergoing hemodialysis for no more than 3 months with fatigue and anxiety problems. Giving lavender aromatherapy was carried out for 4 hemodialysis periods, carried out every intradialytic. The instruments used in this case study were the Fatigue Severity Scale and the Beck Anxiety Inventory to measure fatigue and anxiety scores. Results: The results of the study showed that the intensity of fatigue and anxiety before the intervention was moderate and the intensity after the intervention was mild. Conclusions: Lavender aromatherapy has a positive effect on reducing fatigue and anxiety scores in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. It is hoped that lavender aromatherapy can become a recommendation in services at health facilities to improve the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is an escalating global health issue, with diet playing a critical role in its management by limiting salt and saturated fat intake while increasing the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and fiber. However, low patient compliance often leads to unstable blood pressure and increases the risk of complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support, social support, and diet adherence among hypertensive patients. Methods: This study employed a descriptive survey approach with a cross-sectional research design, conducted among hypertensive patients at the Margorejo Pati Health Center. A total of 40 participants were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a Family Support Questionnaire, a Social Support Questionnaire, and a Hypertension Diet Adherence Questionnaire. The Spearman Rank Correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the variables. Results: The bivariate analysis revealed a strong correlation between family support and diet adherence among hypertensive patients, with a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05) and a correlation strength of r = 0.979, indicating a very strong and positive relationship. Additionally, social support was significantly associated with diet adherence, with a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05) and a correlation strength of r = 0.912, demonstrating a very strong positive correlation. Conclusions: The findings indicate that both family and social support are strongly and positively correlated with the dietary adherence of hypertensive patients. Based on these findings, it is recommended to enhance family involvement in patient dietary management.

Abstract

Shared decision-making” (SDM), a cooperative process that allows health professionals and patients to share the best accessible evidence for making decisions, is extensively accepted and developed in general ward of hospital settings. However, the concept's implementation in an emergency department (ER) setting has not been comprehensively clarified. The objective of this analysis was to describe and elucidate the concept of SDM in the ER setting. The Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used to analyzing the concept of SDM. Four key defining attributes were identified: “active participation of health professionals and patients or their surrogates; collaborative partnership; reaching a compromise; and common goal for patient's health care”. The antecedent's analysis included “several options with different possible outcomes, substantial decisional conflict, the need to recognize the patient's health situation decision making, and willingness to participate in decision making”. The consequences were identified as “decreased decisional, mutual empowerment, and patient health status improvement”. SDM in the ER setting is a communication process involving health care professionals, patients, and patients' surrogates. The process has the potential to overcome traditional power dynamics and encourage changes that could improve the dyadic relationship.

Abstract

Hypertension is a prevalent non-communicable disease in late adulthood that may impair quality of life due to prolonged psychological stress. This study aimed to examine the correlation between stress levels and quality of life among hypertensive patients in late adulthood at the Karangmalang Public Health Center. A quantitative observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 20 hypertensive patients aged 36-45 years, selected through purposive sampling. Stress levels were. Stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF instrument. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Pearson correlation test. The result showed that most respondents experienced moderate stress (mean score = 16.4) and had a good quality of life (mean score = 95.25). Pearson’s analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between stress levels and quality of life (r = 0.624; p = 0.003). Moderate stress (eustress) was found to facilitate adaptive coping, enabling patients to maintain favorable well-being despite chronic illness. There is a asignificant relationship between stress level and quality of life in hypertensive adults. Moderate stress may serve an adaptive role, emphasizing the need for nursing interventions that integrate stress management and psychosocial support to enhance overall quality of life among hypertensive patients. The results of this study provide practical benefits for various parties. For the Puskesmas, they serve as a basis for strengthening promotive and preventive programs. For nurses, the findings can be used as a reference in providing holistic nursing care. For patients and the community, the study enhances understanding of the importance of stress management and social support in maintaining quality of life. Moreover, for researchers and educational institutions, these results can serve as a reference for further studies in community nursing.
