Abstract

This study examines the manner in which sustainability issues are portrayed in Indonesian media during persistent drought conditions, specifically exploring how these portrayals may exonerate the government from accountability for its dedication to sustainable development. The research is based on the concept that the framing of news has a significant impact on the formation of public opinions and the discussion of policies. A framing analysis was performed on a specific set of news articles sourced from Detik.com, a prominent media station in Indonesia. The primary objective of the analysis was to determine the prevailing frameworks utilised in the representation of sustainability challenges and drought, together with its consequences in assigning blame for these problems. The findings indicate a dearth of ethical assessment within news framing, thereby serving as a protective barrier for the government against scrutiny about its commitment to sustainable development. In spite of the frequent occurrence of droughts and the increasing issues related to sustainability, media coverage frequently neglects to thoroughly analyse or critically examine the steps taken by the state. In contrast, news narratives often have a tendency to provide fatalistic depictions of environmental challenges or attribute responsibility to external sources, such as climate change or global economic situations. This study highlights the necessity for increased critical and evaluative journalism pertaining to sustainability matters in Indonesia. By shedding light on the ways in which present framing practises might lead to a shirking of political accountability, it emphasises the need for increased journalistic examination of state obligations pertaining to sustainable development. Furthermore, this emphasises the potential impact of media coverage that is both balanced and accountable in promoting greater social involvement in addressing sustainability issues.

Abstract

Stunting is actually the main matter that Indonesia will face in the future. Indonesia had suffered great crisis in the Suharto era, hence so many people breed children without thinking how to feed them nor giving them proper education. This doesn’t count the conflict of wealth shared between families led into more homeless family. Today, due to numerous ignored cases, Indonesia finally joins hand to prevent Stunting from dominating Indonesia. However, as we get informative and professional media for that, we also experience the digital disruption created by political buzzer. This makes the reality be clearer that government decision is connected to their election.

Abstract

The women’s body in relation with the concept of existence is mutually binding. Body becomes a starting point to look at the existence of women themselves. The women’s as commodity and political instrument historically cannot be separated as the former is in many occasions seen as dangerous, especially if it is uncontrolled. Various policies have been produced by authorities as the expression of control over women’s bodies. Women themselves as the owners of the body are powerless against the control and power over her body. Any resistances to response or demand for more control will simply be labeled as immoral and inappropriate. In fact, state control over the body is actually considered as a result of the willingness of the state’s presence under the pretext of the need for more controlled public good. In other study, Foucault and ecofeminism present stringing struggle of many groups against any form of power over the woman’s body. The formation of power over sexuality is conducted through disciplining the body and through a population policy to regulate the rate of population growth. Foucault criticized the effort to control women’s body. The aim of this article is to prove the power through its apparatus controls women’s bodies through reproductive policies. This paper also describes the mastery correlation of the female body with earth, in relation with the views of ecofeminism. Ecofeminism also takes a more extreme way to be directly involved in saving earth, the first teritory heavily linked with the women’s body. The concern with women’s bodies also means caring about the future survival of human.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of digital activism within the context of contemporary Islamic politics in Indonesia, focusing on the influence of social media on the dynamics of Islamic movements. Social media has emerged as a new space for political mobilization and religious discourse, enabling Islamic groups to expand their reach, enhance participation, and consolidate support. The study employs a qualitative approach with a critical analysis of the content, strategies, and impacts of social media use by various Islamic movements, ranging from moderate to conservative. The findings reveal that social media serves as a communication tool and a discursive space for shaping identities, conveying political narratives, and mobilizing collective action. On the other hand, the use of social media by Islamic movements also presents challenges, including polarization, misinformation, and the potential for radicalization. The research highlights that digital activism has reshaped the landscape of Islamic politics in Indonesia, with social media as a key catalyst for this transformation. However, its impact must be critically understood within broader social, political, and cultural contexts. These findings significantly contribute to studying Islamic politics and digital transformation in the modern era. The research expands academic literature on contemporary Islamic politics by analyzing the role of social media as a tool for political transformation within Islamic movements in Indonesia. This study offers a fresh perspective on the intersection of religion and digital technology, emphasizing how social media shapes political identity, mobilizes support, and influences public discourse and policy. Academically, this research contributes by providing a nuanced understanding of the digitalization of religious, political movements in a non-Western democratic context, enriching comparative studies on digital activism and political Islam.

Abstract

The background of this study is the hegemony of opinion in the Modopuro duck village and the social isolation of the Sumberglagah leprosy village. This study uses the spiral of silence as the main theory and supports patron-client relationships in rural communities theory. This study took two locations: the Sumberglagah leprosy village in Tangjungkenongo village and the duck village in Modopuro village. This study used a qualitative method focusing on two villages in Mojokerto Regency. This study found the application of the spiral of silence theory applies if public opinion or issues concern villagers' daily lives. Environmental pollution issues in Modopuro and the stigma of the Tanjungkenogo leprosy village are included in the close case category because they are related to the daily life and experiences of the villagers. Another finding is the emergence of patron-client relationships. The position of patrons from business circles with clients in Moduporo villagers is quite strong. Meanwhile, Tanjungkenongo village, which acts as a patron, is a public official for the clients of the villagers, especially the Sumberglagah leprosy village

Abstract

In the wake of COVID-19, the rise of remote work has led to a significant increase in private vehicle ownership among Filipinos. This trend poses a significant challenge for sustainability and environmental preservation. This study examines how Gcash Philippines, through its Instagram account @Gcashofficial, is addressing this issue by promoting sustainable practices and actions. This research utilizes content analysis to examine posts on @Gcashofficial over a one-year period (2023-2024). The analysis focuses on messages related to sustainability development - including preservation, communication, and action - and how these messages relate to the problem of increased private vehicle ownership. The study reveals that @Gcashofficial is actively promoting sustainable practices as a response to growing environmental concerns linked with increased private vehicle use.
