Abstract

This experimental research was conducted at tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kuok. This research aims to find out whether there is an effect on using Instagram as media towards the students’ writing descriptive text, in academic year 2019/2020. This is a quasi-experiment research. From the entire population, two classes were chosen as the sample. Class X IIS as the experiment class and class X MIPA as the control class. The experimental class was taught by using Instagram as media meanwhile control was taught by using Google Classroom as media. The data were obtained by using Pre-test and Post-test. Pre-test was given to both classes before the treatment and Post-test of both classes were analyzed by using t-test. Based on the data analysis of the research showed that the average students post-test in experimental class were 70, and control class has average students post-test were 67. It means there is a significant difference in the students’ writing skill between the students who were taught by using Instagram and those who were taught using teacher method. It can be conclude that there was effectivenes of using Instagram as media toward the students’ writing skill at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kuok.

Abstract

Analysis of students 'speaking skills in this study aims to determine how students' speaking skills using WhatsApp. The Students have difficulty expressing ideas of the students having difficulty speaking. This research was conducted in class X MIPA and IIS in 2019/2020. As a research subject, online learning involved 40 class X students. The design and method used in this study was descriptive research. The author uses the test as an instrument in this study. The results of this study indicate that the mean score of the students is 70.3 which indicates that the students' speaking skills are good. Students can speak English and understand what is being said, Students also feel confident when speaking English. Meanwhile 11 or 25.1% of students did not like learning English, especially speaking skills. Students did not speak English and did not understand what was said. This means that the speaking ability of students in this class is good.

Abstract

This research uses qualitative research. This research was conducted at the sixth grade of SD 006 Langgini. This research is aimed to determine the ability of English vocabulary mastery to sixth grade students in the first semester. This class is the youngest of the three classes in which class 6A consists of 29 students, class 6B consist of 26 students, and class 6C consist of 30 students. This study uses purposive sampling technique, the sample of this research is class 6C, which consist of 30 students. Based on the results finding of the research, it can be concluded that there are 13% of students who get the very good category in mastering English vocabulary. 13% of students get good category, 23% students get enough category, 34% of students get less category, and 17% students get bad category.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an English teaching module that is effective and in accordance with the needs of upper secondary level students. The research method used is Research and Development with Plomp model (Preliminary Investigation, Design, Realization/Construction, Test, Evaluation, and Revision, Implementation and Dissemination). At the analysis stage, a survey of student needs and analysis of the applicable curriculum were conducted. The design stage involves the preparation of the module framework and learning materials in accordance with the results of the analysis. Module development is done by designing materials, exercises, and evaluations that are interactive and interesting for students.The developed module is then implemented in the classroom to test its effectiveness. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test as well as student satisfaction questionnaire on the module. The results showed that the developed teaching module could significantly improve students' reading comprehension and ability. In addition, students showed positive responses to the use of this module, which included increased learning motivation and active involvement in the learning process.Thus, this reading English module can be used as an alternative teaching material that is effective in improving students' English reading comprehension at the upper secondary level. This research is expected to make a positive contribution in the development of teaching materials that are innovative and in accordance with the development of the education curriculum.

Abstract

This study focuses on self-efficacy in English writing skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the students' self-efficacy in English writing skills. This study uses a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach. To obtain data, the researcher used a questionnaire. This research was conducted by giving questionnaires to the participants. The findings reveal that it can be said that this study aims to determine students' self-efficacy in writing skills. Semester 2 and 4 students Tuanku Tambusai Bangkinang still experience a lot of low writing skills.

Abstract

Speaking is a productive skill that involves communicative performance. To be able to speak in English for Senior High School students are difficult. It is found that at SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. Students are struggling with clear pronunciation and appropriate vocabulary when describing objects due to limited use of learning media and reliance on textbooks, resulting in low English speaking skills at SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. The objective of the study is to find out the effect of personal description board game towards students’ speaking skill at tenth grade of SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. The researcher use a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach which uses the SPSS program to process data. The researcher chose two classes as the sample. The X-10 class, as the experimental class consists of 33 students and the X-9 class, as the control class, consists of 32 students. The instrument of this research is speaking test. In collecting data, the researcher used pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Technique of data analysis used normality test, homogeneity test and T-test. The result showed t-table score obtained = 1.66 and significant score was 0.000. Because the score of t calculation 4.711 > t-table 1.66 and significant score of 0.000 < α = 0.05, then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. This means that the post-test score of experimental class compared to that in the control class was different. In conclusion, Personal Description board game had effect on students speaking skill at tenth grade of SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota
