Abstract

This study aims to identify the principles of effective communication found in the Quran and evaluate their application in daily life to build harmonious interpersonal relationships. While extensive research has been conducted on effective communication, studies specifically examining Quranic communication principles and their practical implementation remain limited. The Quran, as the holy book of Islam, not only provides spiritual guidance but also offers communication principles that can address contemporary communication challenges. This study uses a qualitative approach to explore these principles. Primary data is derived from Quranic verses related to communication, while secondary data includes Quranic tafsirs, books on Islamic communication, and academic articles on effective communication theories. Text analysis is conducted to categorize verses based on themes such as honesty (qaulan sadidan), kindness (qaulan ma’rufan), wisdom (qaulan balighan), empathy and compassion (qaulan layyinan), and respect (qaulan kariman). The findings reveal that Quranic communication forms align closely with the effective communication theories of Stewart L. Tubbs and Sylvia Moss, and the interpersonal communication theories of Muhammad Budyatna and Leila Mona Ganiem. These principles emphasize understanding, honesty, clarity, respect, and gentleness, which collectively enhance communication quality and interpersonal relationships. This study provides practical solutions for improving communication in a complex and diverse society, recommending the adoption of Quranic communication forms in daily practices to foster understanding, build trust, and create a harmonious communication environment.

Abstract

The development of internet infrastructure is crucial for fostering economic and social progress in the digital age. However, obtaining approval from local communities for such projects can be challenging due to concerns about environmental impact and disruptions. This study analyzes the persuasive communication strategies employed by PT Linknet Tbk (First Media), an Internet Service Provider (ISP), to secure permits for infrastructure development. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research explores how different persuasive techniques were applied to engage communities and reduce resistance. Key strategies include the association technique, where the project is linked to long-term community benefits such as enhanced internet access; the integration technique, involving community participation and addressing concerns; the reward/pay-off technique, offering incentives; and the red herring technique, shifting focus from temporary disruptions to long-term gains. The findings show that these strategies effectively increased community support, streamlined the permit process, and minimized potential conflicts. The study concludes that persuasive communication is vital in building positive community relations and ensuring the successful implementation of infrastructure projects, particularly in regions where community approval is essential.

Abstract

Understanding the patient's and companion's perception of the patient's illness can improve the patient's compliance and overall satisfaction. Patients' understanding of their illness is essential for recovery. Doctors should understand the perceptions and interpretations about the illness, experience, knowledge and culture of patients and their companions. The disease is what happens to the patient. Arthur Kleinman's Explanatory Model of Illness provides a guide for understanding the patient's point of view. The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of stroke experienced by patients, according to the point of view of the patient and his companion, and the treatment they had, second, to explore how the patient and the companion convey the condition to the doctor. The method uses a phenomenological approach through interviews, observations, and secondary patient data. There are two primary informants, namely two patients and two companions. This study's results indicate a gap regarding the meaning of the disease between the patient's conception and the health sciences. Patients' and their companion's perceptions denote the economic, social, and political background in terms of the patient's illness. The information that patient and companion convey to doctors, usually do not whole information about what they have done during the journey of treatment. Models for interaction that are mainly developed are between doctor and patient. For effective communication between doctor and companion to help the patient better, there is an important model for consultation that includes triadic communication: doctor-patient-companion which can be advantageous. Important also for the doctor to upgrade the knowledge about understanding not only biomedical information but also the socio, psycho, cultural, and religion of the patient.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program of the environmental sector of Perumda Tirta Manuntung Balikpapan (PTMB) as a strategy to respond to the raw water crisis that has impacted clean water services in Balikpapan City. The crisis was triggered by a decrease in the Manggar Reservoir's discharge due to sedimentation, watershed degradation, changes in land cover, and a decline in water quality. The study used a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm with a case study method through interviews, observations, and analysis of PTMB's internal documents and regional environmental policies. The results show that since 2025, PTMB's TJSL has begun to transform from a charitable approach to a more structured and sustainable one, focusing on raw water conservation through problem identification, stakeholder mapping, and goal formulation. Initial implementation includes mangrove planting in Batu Butok with the Enable Project, water conservation education, and community involvement, although still facing obstacles in inter-unit coordination, limited human resources, and the absence of evaluation standards. This research offers a policy framework that positions TJSL as part of corporate risk management and can serve as a reference for BUMDs and other public service agencies in aligning TJSL with operational risks, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and implementing impact-based evaluations on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

The motorcycle is the most used vehicle of transportation in developing countries. Driving a motorcycle has a very high risk of having an accident. One of the main causes of the accident is human behavior that violates the driving regulations. The interactions in the public space are close to nonverbal communication. Very little is understood about the rationale of driving behavior of motorcycle users, especially on the non-compliance behavior. The research objectives are to know what forms of non-compliance behaviors the motorcyclist has committed and to know how motorcyclists interpret non-compliance with motorbike riding. This is a phenomenological study, by observation, interviews, and secondary data collection. The total informants are 16 people between 12-60 years. The results show that the types of violations that riders have committed almost similar to the previous researches. The difference is about the driving against the traffic flow/incoming traffic that mentioned in almost all informants' statements and none of the informants studied stated that they were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Motorcyclists interpret a motorbike as running water. The main finding of this research shows that Residential area syndrome that refers to the concept of proxemics is the reason for non-compliance behavior due to lack of knowledge and lack of supervision. A better understanding of the proxemics can create a better approach for communication to increase the compliance behavior in motorcycling to reduce the traffic accidents caused by human error.

Abstract

Work from Home (WFH) is currently a popular term on social media, especially after the government officially urges businesses to assign employees to work from home. The appeal is related to efforts to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak. Against this background, the researcher conducted a study to see how reciprocal communication between superiors and subordinates occurs and how obstacles occur when working from home at PT Indonesia Comnets Plus (ICON+). This study uses the Post-Positive Paradigm and uses the Single Case method with a qualitative descriptive approach and research data obtained from interviews and observations and documentation. The research location was carried out at ICON+ in the Jakarta area. Managers and VPs are classified as superiors, while officers and staff are classified as subordinates. The results showed that the reciprocal communication between superiors and subordinates was dominated by using the written method. Communication barriers that occur between superiors and subordinates at ICON+ include semantic disruption, structural disruption, and behavioral disruption. The research findings say that the biggest obstacle experienced by superiors and subordinates at ICON+ is the frame of mind barrier, namely the difference in perception when the communication process occurs between superiors and subordinates. The overall communication barrier is more often experienced by subordinates than superiors.

Abstract

This study focuses on interpersonal communication in married couples, especially during the period of baby blues disorder. The approach used is social penetration theory. The study aims to describe the interpersonal communication patterns formed through the process of communication and support in husband and wife relationships during the period of baby blues syndrome. The case study method was used with data collection through interviews with five women who had given birth for the first time and had experienced postnatal baby blues disorder. The results showed that the interpersonal communication process in this period is usually started by the wife with an attitude of self-opening. Through interaction with the husband, the wife defines the form of support provided by the husband, both verbally and non-verbally, as a positive reaction to the self-opening that has been done. This communication pattern forms a cycle in each couple, showing that the four couples tend to have balanced and equal communication patterns. Husbands were involved mainly in providing instrumental support related to childcare and household activities. However, in one other couple, the communication pattern was considered unbalanced due to the lack of support from the husband, so the wife sought support from her female friends who also experienced similar baby blues.
