Abstract

The factor causing students difficulties in understanding the shape of molecules is that students need to imagine the 3D structure of a molecule with images in 2D, so a visualization tool specifically designed to overcome problems related to this is needed. This study aims to determine the Effectiveness of Android-based M-Learning in the molecular shape sub-material to improve students' visual-spatial intelligence. This study used the 4D development model proposed by Thiagarajan (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) modified by Ibrahim so that it was only carried out until the development stage. The trial of M-Learning using a One-group pretest-posttest design. The subject in this research is class IX F-3 with a number of 27 students. The effectiveness of Android-based M-Learning in terms of the increase in student learning outcomes as measured by the value of the molecular shape pretest-posttest which contains 10 multiple choice questions related to the molecular shape sub-material and visual-spatial pretest-posttest which contains 6 multiple choice questions related to spatial-visual intelligence. Research results show the molecular shape test and visual-spatial, each obtained an N-Gain of 0.63 – 1 with moderate and high feature scores. which is effective in terms of increasing student learning outcomes

This research utilises an R&D (Research and Development) method featuring a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants in this study were 12th-grade high school students. The tools used in this research included validation sheets, pretest-posttest assessments, and feedback questionnaires. Validation data indicated that the e-worksheets were suitable for testing, achieving a median score of ≥ 4. The pretest-posttest results were analysed using the N-Gain score, which fell within the range of 0.7 to 0.9. Additionally, a paired t-test was conducted using the Minitab software, yielding a p-value of less than 0.05, signifying a meaningful enhancement in students’ critical thinking skills. The feedback from students regarding this media resulted in a practicality rating of ≥ 61%. In summary, interactive e-worksheets based on the three levels of chemical representation have been demonstrated to improve students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Students’ limited spatial visualization skills pose challenges in understanding abstract chemical concepts such as molecular geometry. This study aimed to develop an interactive flipbook assisted by 3D animations to enhance students’ spatial visualization and comprehension of molecular geometry. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model and involved 32 purposively selected eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Surabaya. Data were collected using validation sheets, student response questionnaires, pre-test and post-tests, and observation sheets, with instrument reliability confirmed by expert judgment and Cronbach’s Alpha. Validation results showed that the flipbook was highly valid in both content and construct. Students’ responses indicated a high level of practicality (92.9%). Effectiveness testing revealed significant improvement in learning outcomes, with an average N-Gain of 0.75 for competence and 0.80 for spatial ability, both categorized as high. These results suggest that the 3D-assisted flipbook enables students to visualize and manipulate molecular structures, thereby reducing reliance on imagination and strengthening conceptual understanding. Teachers are recommended to adopt 3D-assisted flipbooks as a low-cost and effective instructional medium to foster students’ spatial reasoning and improve chemistry learning outcomes.

Abstract

The low level of students' scientific literacy on hydrocarbon material indicates the need for innovative, interactive, and contextual learning media. This study aimed to develop a Flip PDF-assisted e-comic designed to improve high school students' scientific literacy. A Research and Development (R and D) design employing the ADDIE model was implemented, which included expert validation, practicality testing through student questionnaires, and effectiveness testing using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The developed e-comic received a highly valid score from experts, with an average practicality percentage of 82.1%, categorized as very practical. The effectiveness test showed a significant increase in students' scientific literacy with an N-Gain value of 0.74, categorized as high. The Flip PDF-assisted e-comic improved students' literacy in knowledge, context, competence, and attitude aspects. The results imply that the developed e-comic can help students strengthen their understanding of chemistry concepts, enhance their ability to apply science in daily life, and foster the essential skills required to adapt to technological and global challenges in the 21st century. This research has implications for the development of innovative learning media that can improve students' scientific literacy through an interactive and contextual digital approach.

Abstract

Understanding molecular geometry poses a significant challenge for high school students due to its abstract nature, often leading to misconceptions. This study aims to develop and evaluate an EddPuzzle-based interactive video to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and visual intelligence in molecular geometry. Employing a Research and Development (RD) method, the study adopts the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) but is limited to the development phase. The interactive video was validated by three experts and achieved a median score of 4 across content, construct, and visual intelligence criteria, indicating excellent validity. The product was tested on 30 eleventh-grade students using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding and visual intelligence, supported by N-Gain scores—93.3% of students reached the high category for cognitive tests, and 86.7% for visual intelligence tests. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p 0.05) between pretest and posttest scores. Student feedback indicated high practicality: 100% expressed interest in using the media, 97.8% found the material easier to understand, and 96.7% considered the video user-friendly. These findings suggest that EddPuzzle-based interactive videos are effective and feasible tools for improving students’ visual intelligence in chemistry learning. Integrating interactive technology into science education supports more engaging and student-centered learning aligned with 21st-century education goals.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to develop and evaluate G-Bond, a gamification-based learning media designed to improve students' literacy, visualisation, and numeracy skills in learning chemical bonds. Methods: The research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a 4D (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) model, limited to the development stage. A total of 35 high school students in Gresik Regency participated in the pretest-posttest design of one group. Five experts carry out validation through content assessment, design, and visualisation. Practicality was tested through a student questionnaire, and effectiveness was measured using an N-Gain score. Results: The G-Bond application obtained a perfect validity score (average = 5), was rated very practical (95.14%), and showed moderate to high effectiveness in improving literacy (N-Gain = 0.34), numeracy (0.34), and visualisation (0.74). The most significant improvement occurs in the visualisation aspect. Novelty: G-Bond is the first gamification medium to simultaneously integrate three main skills in one interactive platform based on the topic of chemical bonding. Unlike previous media that focused only on a single aspect or were less connected to the curriculum, G-Bond presents relevant and adaptive game-based contextual challenges for both online and offline learning. Future integration with Augmented Reality (AR) and AI technologies is proposed to enhance immersive and personalised learning experiences.
