Abstract

The periodic system of elements is one of the complex chemical materials. The results of previous research show that the learning achievement of boarding high school students has an understanding that is only limited to the macroscopic level. Visualization of chemical representation level requires high visual intelligence. Therefore, researchers developed a module of periodic system of elements as an independent learning media for high school boarding school students in improving visual intelligence. This study aims to analyze the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the module. The type of research used is the ADDIE method with five stages, namely Analyze (analysis), Design (design), Develop (development), Implement (implementation), and Evaluate (evaluation). The module in terms of content and construction showed a very valid category. The results of observations of module implementation show a very practical category. The module is very effective to improve students' visual intelligence with an n-gain value of 0.753434. The results showed that the periodic system of elements module is feasible to use as a solution to improve students' visual intelligence.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesian students' scientific literacy scores decreased by 13 points from PISA 2018, indicating that the scientific literacy skills of participants in Indonesia are low. One area of concern is students' understanding of chemical equilibrium, which is essential because it is a prerequisite for grasping subsequent materials. This study aims to assess the feasibility of interactive e-worksheets as a learning medium for chemical equilibrium material in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. According to Thiagarajan, the research employs the 4-D research and development model, which includes Defining, Designing, Developing, and Disseminating but is limited to the development stage. A limited trial was conducted using a one-group pretest-posttest research design. Validation results show that the interactive e-worksheet is valid with a mode value of 4 in content, presentation, language, and design. The validity test results yielded a mode value 4 for both content and construct validity. The practicality test results indicated a high percentage of practicality with very practical criteria. The effectiveness test, analysed using n-gain, showed an n-gain value of 0.78 with high criteria, and the paired sample t-test results indicated a P-value of 0.000, confirming that the post-test scores were significantly higher than the pretest scores. Thus, the PBL-oriented Interactive e-worksheet can improve students' scientific literacy skills.

Abstract

The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia issued policies related to the implementation of education in the new normal era learning systems through online learning by utilizing various technologies. Without face-to-face learning, high school students have difficulty in understanding molecular shape geometry material so that it affects students' ability to develop spatial-visual precepts. As a solution to these problems, there needs to be the development of virtual reality learning videos that match the geometry of molecular shapes in real-time. This study aims to find out the validity of The Virtual Reality-Based Molecular Shape Geometry Tutorial Video As a Solution To Improve the Spatial Visual Ability of High School Students in the New Normal Era. Validity is tested through content quality and purpose, instructional quality, and technical quality. The development was carried out using the R&D method with The Thiagarajan 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate which is limited to the Develop Stage The results were obtained from Virtual Reality Chemistry (VR CHEM) media are very valid on each criterion assessed. The details of the results obtained are content validation of 91.9% and construction validation of 89%.

Abstract

The science literacy skills of Indonesian students are still low based on the results of PISA 2022. Chemical equilibrium material is very important, and understanding chemical equilibrium is a prerequisite for understanding subsequent materials. One of the efforts to improve understanding of chemical equilibrium material is applying a student-centred learning model, the PBL model. PBL can also improve students' science literacy skills. Thus, research was conducted to develop PBL-oriented interactive electronic student activity sheets on chemical equilibrium material to improve students' science literacy skills. This research aims to describe the effectiveness of interactive E-LAPD as a learning media for improving students' science literacy skills. Research and development (Research and Development) is the type of research used.  The research design used in this research is the 4-D model development research design according to Thiagarajan's 4-D model, which consists of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The instrument used in this research is a pretest and posttest sheet of science literacy skills to measure students' science literacy skills. This research used a limited trial with a one-group pretest-posttest research design. The limited trial was conducted at SMAN 1 Kedamean with 36 class XI MIPA 3 students. The effectiveness results analyzed using the paired sample t-test obtained a p-value of 0.000, which indicates that the posttest value after learning using interactive E-LAPD is greater than the pretest value before learning using interactive E-LAPD. Thus, PBL-oriented Interactive E-LAPD can be said to improve students' science literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of interactive electronic worksheets combining three chemical representation levels on students’ critical thinking skills in learning voltaic cells. This research utilises an R&D (Research and Development) method featuring a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants in this study were 12th-grade high school students. The tools used in this research included validation sheets, pretest-posttest assessments, and feedback questionnaires. Validation data indicated that the e-worksheets were suitable for testing, achieving a median score of ≥ 4. The pretest-posttest results were analysed using the N-Gain score, which fell within the range of 0.7 to 0.9. Additionally, a paired t-test was conducted using the Minitab software, yielding a p-value of less than 0.05, signifying a meaningful enhancement in students’ critical thinking skills. The feedback from students regarding this media resulted in a practicality rating of ≥ 61%. In summary, interactive e-worksheets based on the three levels of chemical representation have been demonstrated to improve students’ critical thinking skills.
