Abstract

This study examines the knowing-doing gap in environmental literacy among coal mine workers implementing ISO 14001:2015 at PT XYZ, South Sumatra. Despite being ISO 14001 certified, the gap between environmental knowledge and actual pro-environmental behavior remains a critical challenge in sustainable mining. Using a mixed-methods design, researchers surveyed 24 workers through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, field observations, and document analysis. Environmental literacy was assessed through three dimensions: knowledge, attitudes, and behavior, based on the McBeth & Volk framework. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (SPSS 25), while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The results indicate high environmental literacy knowledge (83% understand the policy) and positive attitudes (>65% agree with environmental responsibility), but low consistent behavior with only 42% attending regular training and 38% participating in reclamation programs, indicating a 41% gap. Key barriers include productivity pressures, inflexible training schedules, the absence of an incentive system, and weak management role models. ISO 14001:2015 effectively enhances the knowledge dimension through policy dissemination and audits, but fails to drive behavioral change without complementary organizational mechanisms. This research contributes to a conceptual model that integrates individual literacy with organizational determinants, demonstrating that sustainable mining requires systemic interventions beyond administrative compliance

Abstract

Household organic waste management represents a critical environmental challenge requiring practical and sustainable solutions, particularly in densely populated urban areas of developing countries. Biopore Infiltration Holes (BIH) constitute an environmentally friendly technology that can be directly implemented at the household level to accelerate organic waste decomposition while simultaneously enhancing soil infiltration capacity. This study aims to conduct a multidimensional sustainability assessment of BIH implementation for household organic waste management in Kampung Sanitasi, Tabiang Banda Gadang Subdistrict. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with sustainability analysis using a modified RAPFISH (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) method adapted to organic waste management contexts. Data were collected through structured interviews (n=30 households), field observations, questionnaires, and documentation. Each dimension was evaluated based on multiple attributes scored and analyzed using Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS) to generate sustainability indices, supported by Monte Carlo simulation and leverage analysis for reliability testing. The multidimensional sustainability analysis revealed varying levels across dimensions: effectiveness (61.69 - moderately sustainable), efficiency (56.91 - moderately sustainable), and practicality (80.52 - highly sustainable), with an overall sustainability score of 66.37 (moderately sustainable). Community participation and environmental literacy emerged as critical determinants of successful implementation. BIH technology demonstrates strong potential as a sustainable household organic waste management strategy, particularly due to its high practicality. The RAPFISH-based multidimensional assessment provides a robust framework for evaluating and improving community-based environmental technologies.

Abstract

Insufficient conceptual understanding of roof construction elements often leads to suboptimal learning outcomes in vocational education. The technical nature of structural components requires high spatial visualization, which conventional materials fail to provide. This study aimed to develop valid, practical, and effective augmented reality learning media to bridge this gap. Utilizing the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), the research involved three-dimensional structural modeling and smartphone integration. Testing was conducted at SMK Negeri 5 Padang involving an experimental class (n = 32) and a control class (n = 12) within the Fundamentals of Construction and Housing Engineering subject. Data were gathered through validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and pre-test post-test instruments. Results indicated high validity scores of 4.71 from media matter experts and 4.63 from subject experts, with practicality ratings of 95.76 percent from teachers and 93.00 percent from students. Statistical analysis via independent t-test revealed significant differences in post-test scores (t = 2.24, p = 0.03). Furthermore, the experimental group achieved a higher competency growth (N-gain 0.66) than the control group (0.51, p = 0.01). In conclusion, augmented reality is highly feasible for enhancing vocational learning outcomes by transforming abstract references into interactive visualizations.

Abstract

Lake Maninjau with its strategic functions, faces pressures from both climate change and anthropogenic activities that can degrade water quality and ecological functions. This study aims to determine the water quality status of Lake Maninjau over the 2022–2025 period as an initial step to support lake restoration and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6. Surface water samples were collected twice a year from six stations representing the lake's spatial characteristics using the grab sampling method. Analyzed parameters included pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), and phosphate (PO4) following methods established in the Indonesian National Standards and relevant international standards. The water quality status was assessed using the Pollution Index method based on the Decree of the Minister of State for the Environment Number 115 of 2003. The results revealed fluctuating temporal shifts throughout the observation period. In 2022, water quality ranged from good conditions to light pollution. Conditions deteriorated during 2023–2024, with the majority of stations classified as light pollution. By 2025, all monitoring sites recovered to the good conditions. The observed fluctuating patterns of the Pollution Index during the 2022–2025 period indicate that the Lake Maninjau aquatic system remains highly vulnerable to dynamic external pressures, such as organic load accumulation and the lake's natural hydrological dynamics in the form of upwelling events. Consequently, consistent nutrient load reduction is urgently required, particularly through the regulation of floating net cage capacities based on carrying capacity assessments and structured water quality monitoring.
