Abstract

This study uniquely addresses the gap in preparing prospective biology teachers for 21st-century education by integrating Project-Based Learning (PjBL) into microteaching. The research investigates the impact of this innovative approach on enhancing essential skills such as communication and collaboration. Utilizing a quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design, data was collected from 34 students out of a population of 109 through random sampling, employing questionnaires and interviews. The analysis, conducted using t-tests, revealed a significant improvement in both communication and collaboration skills, with collaboration showing a higher influence. These findings underscore the efficacy of PjBL in fostering these competencies, which are critical for modern educational environments. The implications of this study suggest that optimizing project design, providing robust support and guidance from educators, ensuring resource availability, focusing on continuous evaluation, and offering targeted training for educators are vital for the successful implementation of PjBL-based microteaching. This approach not only enhances the pedagogical skills of prospective teachers but also aligns with the broader educational goal of developing well-rounded, competent educators equipped to meet the challenges of contemporary classrooms. The study's results contribute valuable insights for educational policy and curriculum development, emphasizing the need for innovative teaching methodologies to prepare future educators effectively.

Abstract

Education today has led to the importance of 21st century learning. The 21st century directs life to four pillars, namely learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together. The four pillars contain specific skills to be developed in the learning process such as communication skills, critical thinking, collaboration, creation and innovation, information literacy, and problem solving. This study reviews the importance of the role of 21st century learning in the inquiry based learning model as a learning model that can solve the challenges of the 21st century. Based on the results of the analysis of the articles on the inquiry based learning model, it was found that the inquiry based learning model is one of the learning models that can be used in the 21st century to guide students to achieve the four skills in the 21st century. The inquiry learning model is a learning model that prepares students in situations to conduct their own experiments so that they can think critically to seek and find answers to a questionable problem. Inquiry allows students to have free space for students to learn, but provides clear boundaries of exploration.

Abstract

The writing ability of teachers in Indonesia is considered very weak. Various studies show that many teachers are lazy to apply for promotion if one of the requirements is to write scientific papers. Various efforts have been made by various parties to foster interest in writing among teachers but the results have not been satisfactory. Training has often focused on how to write scientific papers, be it Classroom Action Research or even writing books. Ideally, teachers should start their writing habits from the simplest type of writing, namely writing popular articles in mass media, especially online mass media to writing scientific papers in the form of journal articles and scientific books. So, it is necessary to carry out community service activities with the topic "Training on Writing Scientific Articles in Accredited National Journals for Teachers of SMK 11 in Muaro Jambi Regency." The purpose of this training is to provide provisions in the form of motivation, techniques, and ways to write scientific articles in SINTA accredited journals which are now very easily accessible online. At the end of the training the participants are expected to have knowledge of how to write articles in national journals and will also have articles published in the National Journal.

Abstract

Classroom Action Research (CAR) should be one of the competencies that teachers must have. PTK at a more advanced level is a routine activity carried out by teachers in order to improve professionalism through the process of managing rank and class. Scientific work based on Classroom Action Research is a mandatory requirement for civil servant teachers, starting from group III as part of the process of managing rank and class. The reality in the field shows that there are still many teachers who have not fully mastered PTK. In fact, PTK is an obligation for teachers that contributes to promotion, which in turn, supports their professional improvement. The implementation of training in writing PTK is not only useful for fulfilling the requirements for promotion, but can also be used as a provision in solving student learning problems in the classroom.

Abstract

Educational institutions prepare prospective biology teachers so they can carry out learning effectively and efficiently. However, there is a gap in meeting the needs for effective learning for prospective biology teachers. Based on a survey of 177 prospective teacher students, it was found that they preferred microteaching to be integrated with the project-based learning model. The aim of this research is to develop a PjBL-based microteaching model. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. The research subjects were 36 fourth-semester students from the Biology Education Study Program who were enrolled in microteaching courses. The PjBL-based microteaching model has the syntax, (1) Instructional to the concept of microteaching, (2) plan, (3) teach, (4) feedback and reflection, (5) project collection, (6) project evaluation. Conclusion: This PjBL-based microteaching model is developed from microteaching and PjBL theories. The PjBL-based microteaching model for prospective biology teachers is deemed suitable for use, as indicated by validator assessments and small group and large group tests. Based on the results of the large group trials, it is evident that this model positively impacts the 4C skills of prospective biology teachers.
