Abstract

Teaching materials play a very important role in the learning process. A good teaching material is a collection of material contents that can facilitate teacher and students in completing the learning steps and can achieve the learning objectives appropriately. However, not all teachers provide teaching materials in accordance with the courses being taught and this makes it difficult for students to equate the perception of the material from the level of depth and the scope of the material to be learnt. This is the background of researcher to conduct this research. The purpose of this study is to develop teaching materials for writing skills in English Language Studies Media Studies for Communication Studies Students Based on Genre Based Approach. The research method being used is Research and Development (R&D). The samples are students from English of Media Studies. The result of this study produced an English writing material consisting of six topics developed by adopting Genre Based Approach in learning situation.  It is hoped that teachers can use and promote this approach in teaching students writing to get maximum writing results.Key words: Teaching materials, writing skills, Genre Based Approach

Abstract

The objective of the study is to find out whether there is a significant effect of pre-questioning technique on students reading comprehension. In this research, the researcher used the quantitative research with the type of quasi-experimental research. This research involving two classes, VIII 8 was experiment class and VIII 9 was controlled class. VIII 8 was taught by using pre-questioning technique, while VIII 9 was taught by using conventional teaching. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test to the class. The collected data in this research are analyzed by using t-test. According to the result of statistical calculation, The result of pre-test, t-count was 0,32 < 1,987or accept H0 while in post-test, t-count was 2,293 > 1,987 or accept H1with 5% of significant level. It can be concluded that there is significant different effect of reading comprehension using pre-questioning technique between experiment and control class.Keyword: pre-questioning technique, quasi-experimental research, reading comprehension

Abstract

There  are  several  types  of  activities  carried  out  to  improve student  speaking  skills  in  English,  one  of  which  is simulation. Simulations of speaking skills in learning English must also be tailored to the needs of PGSD students. This study aims to find out and describe the student needs of Primary School Teacher Education in English speaking skills using simulation. Data obtained from questionnaires and interviews. The results of the analysis of learning needs obtained are that students need speaking skills fluently and communicatively in order to prepare them to meet their professional demands as an elementary school teacher later. Needs analysis data designed to reveal a) The current process of speaking English skills in the Muhammadiyah Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, b) Student needs and difficulties in learning activities using simulation, c) Student needs and desires in speaking skills learning using simulation. Needs analysis reveals that (1) Learning activity activities needed by students are simulations (2) Student's difficulties in speaking skills in learning activities using the most dominant simulation is the lack of confidence and grammar, (3) Desired material in learning activities using simulation in the form of materials relating to elementary school material. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for preparing syllabi and developing teaching material.
