Abstract

Stunting is one of the health problems that is still highly prevalent in Indonesia, especially in toddlers. This condition has a long-term impact on children's physical growth, cognitive development, and productivity in the future. One of the main factors causing stunting is the ignorance of parents or caregivers about the importance of balanced nutrition in the child's growth period. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness, especially among mothers with toddlers, about the importance of providing balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. The method used in this activity is education through counseling, interactive discussions, and distribution of educational media through leaflets and posters. The activity was conducted at the Posyandu and involved health cadres and nutritionists. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge by 75% based on the pre-test and post-test. This activity shows that direct and contextual balanced nutrition education can effectively prevent stunting in toddlers

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue that threatens the quality of human resources, particularly in developing countries. One of the critical periods to prevent stunting is the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK), starting from conception until a child reaches two years old. This community service program aimed to optimize the role of community midwives in providing maternal nutrition education for pregnant women as an effort to reduce stunting prevalence. The method employed was participatory action through training, counseling sessions, and the development of educational media tailored to local cultural contexts. Community midwives were equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills regarding balanced nutrition, micronutrient supplementation, and strategies to increase family awareness about food diversity. Counseling activities were carried out in small groups with interactive discussions, supported by leaflets and visual aids to facilitate better understanding. The results indicated an improvement in the knowledge and attitudes of both midwives and pregnant women. Midwives demonstrated greater confidence in delivering nutritional education, while pregnant women showed increased awareness of the importance of protein, iron, folic acid, and other essential nutrients for fetal growth. Furthermore, family involvement in supporting pregnant women’s dietary practices became more evident. This program highlights that empowering community midwives as local health educators can be a strategic approach to break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. Strengthening collaboration among health workers, local governments, and community leaders is essential to sustain the impact and ensure long-term stunting prevention efforts

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health challenge that threatens child growth and long-term human development, particularly among vulnerable families. Family-based interventions are essential to address the behavioral and environmental determinants of stunting that occur at the household level. This community service program aimed to strengthen family capacity in preventing stunting among children at risk through family-based home care assistance focusing on nutrition interventions and healthy parenting practices. The program was implemented using a structured and participatory approach consisting of five stages: socialization, training, application of appropriate technology, mentoring and evaluation, and program sustainability. Activities were conducted with families who had children at risk of stunting and were supported by community nurses and health cadres. Training emphasized balanced nutrition, age-appropriate feeding practices, dietary diversity using locally available foods, hygiene and sanitation, healthy parenting, and child growth monitoring. Simple digital educational media and mobile-based communication were used to reinforce learning and facilitate follow-up. Mentoring was carried out through regular home visits to provide individualized guidance and support behavior change. The results showed improvements in caregiver knowledge, feeding practices, healthy parenting behaviors, compliance with child growth monitoring, and utilization of simple technology after program implementation. These findings indicate that family-based home care assistance is a feasible and effective approach to strengthening family capacity for stunting prevention. Integrating nutrition education, healthy parenting support, appropriate technology, and continuous mentoring within community-based services can contribute to sustainable improvements in child nutrition practices and support long-term efforts to reduce stunting at the community level.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that is still a public health challenge in Indonesia. One of the factors contributing to the high prevalence of stunting is the lack of knowledge of parents, especially mothers, about balanced nutritional intake and proper practices of feeding Complementary Breast Milk (MP-ASI). This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers under five related to the importance of nutritious food and the practice of giving MP-ASI in accordance with the guidelines of WHO and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The methods used are education through interactive counseling, demonstrations of making local food-based MP-ASI, and question and answer sessions. The target of the activity was 40 mothers with children aged 6-24 months in the Posyandu in the assisted area. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge by 65% after participating in educational activities. In addition, 80% of participants stated that they were motivated to implement MP-ASI feeding practices that are in accordance with the principles of balanced nutrition. This activity also encourages the use of affordable and nutritious local food resources. With the increase in mothers' knowledge and skills in compiling and delivering MP-ASI, it is hoped that the risk of stunting in early childhood can be minimized. This service activity proves that education-based interventions and direct practices can effectively support programs to accelerate stunting reduction at the community level. The recommendation for the future is to expand the scope of similar activities with cross-sectoral collaboration, especially among health workers and posyandu cadres

Abstract

Introduction: Community-based stunting prevention remains a major challenge in decentralized health governance systems due to variations in policy translation and implementation at the village level. This study aimed to analyze factors influencing the implementation effectiveness of community-based stunting prevention programs. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in selected rural villages in Eastern Indonesia between January and April 2026. A total of 130 respondents were selected using proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multivariate logistic regression with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Strong institutional coordination was the most dominant factor associated with effective implementation of stunting prevention programs (AOR = 3.76; 95% CI: 1.72–8.19; p < 0.001). Good policy communication (AOR = 2.84; 95% CI: 1.31–6.15; p = 0.008), high community participation (AOR = 2.57; 95% CI: 1.18–5.60; p = 0.017), adequate implementer capacity (AOR = 2.21; 95% CI: 1.03–4.76; p = 0.041), and sufficient resource availability (AOR = 2.69; 95% CI: 1.22–5.95; p = 0.014) also significantly improved implementation effectiveness. Conclusion: Effective stunting prevention requires adaptive governance systems emphasizing multisectoral coordination, community participation, and context-sensitive policy implementation at the village level.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a major global public health problem affecting more than 1.2 billion people worldwide and contributing substantially to cardiovascular morbidity and premature mortality. Recent evidence indicates a rising trend of elevated blood pressure among young adults, particularly in low- and middle-income countries experiencing rapid lifestyle and dietary transitions. University students are increasingly exposed to chronic academic stress and easy access to high-sodium fast food, potentially accelerating early cardiovascular risk. However, limited qualitative evidence integrates psychosocial and dietary determinants of early hypertension within student populations. Research Methodology: This qualitative study employed a phenomenological approach to explore students lived experiences related to mental stress, fast food consumption, and perceived early hypertension risk. The study was conducted at a public university in Indonesia between March and June 2025. Twenty undergraduate students aged 18–25 years were recruited using purposive maximum variation sampling. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s framework. Data saturation was achieved at the 18th interview and confirmed in subsequent interviews. Results: Four major themes emerged: (1) academic and psychosocial stress as persistent pressure; (2) fast food as a stress-driven coping mechanism; (3) limited awareness of early hypertension risk; and (4) the interconnection between stress, diet, and physical symptoms. Participants described chronic stress leading to frequent fast-food consumption, which was perceived to contribute to headaches, palpitations, and fatigue. A knowledge behavior gap was evident, as awareness did not translate into preventive action. Conclusion: Early hypertension risk among students is shaped by the interaction between psychosocial stress and maladaptive dietary coping behaviors. Integrated campus-based strategies incorporating stress management, healthier food environments, and routine blood pressure screening are essential to prevent long-term cardiovascular disease
