Abstract

Islamic theology based performance management has emerged as a strategic approach to improving the quality of Islamic education in the contemporary era, particularly as institutions such as pesantren are required not only to transmit knowledge but also to cultivate character through exemplification and daily practices. The challenges of globalization, the need to strengthen work ethics, and the demand for enhancing the quality of Islamic educational institutions make the integration of kalam-derived theological values a relevant foundation for performance management. This article employs a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing literature related to performance management, Islamic theological values, and their implementation within Islamic educational institutions. Data were analyzed through processes of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing to reveal patterns of theological value integration in educational managerial practices. The findings indicate that performance management incorporating Islamic values such as honesty, responsibility, discipline, and collaboration effectively enhances the work ethic of teachers and students, strengthens organizational culture, and supports holistic character formation. Practical implementations, including maqaṣid al-shari‘ah based evaluation, the development of students’ soft skills, and teacher training grounded in Islamic values, positively influence the effectiveness of Islamic educational institutions. However, challenges such as insufficient training, limited facilities, and resistance to change must be addressed systematically. The implications of this study underscore the importance of reinforcing Islamic performance management policies, enhancing educator capacity, and fostering collaboration among schools, parents, and communities to develop Islamic educational institutions that are excellent, adaptive, and character-driven.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation model of Islamic character-based student management in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, describe student behavior management strategies, and examine its impact on student achievement. The research employs a qualitative approach with an instrumental case study design. Research subjects include madrasah principals, teachers, students, and parents selected through purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, documentation, and focus group discussions. Data analysis utilized the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model with stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source, method, and time triangulation, as well as member checking. The findings reveal that student management implementation follows a cyclical model integrating Islamic values in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating. Behavior management strategies include habituation, role modeling, advising, positive reinforcement, logical consequences, and parent collaboration, with role modeling being the most effective strategy. Supporting factors include leadership commitment, teacher competence, and parental support, while inhibiting factors encompass time constraints, diverse family backgrounds, and social media influence. Positive impacts are evident in spiritual-moral achievement (85% of students regularly perform worship, 60% reduction in violations), academic achievement (12-15 point increase in grades, 100% graduation rate), and non-academic achievement. This study concludes that Islamic character-based student management effectively shapes students' personalities holistically while enhancing multidimensional achievement

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to analyze the management strategies of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah principals in improving the quality of Islamic values-based learning. The research focuses on planning and organizing learning strategies, leadership implementation in execution and supervision, and identification of supporting and inhibiting factors. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method conducted at 2-3 high-performing Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and focus group discussions with research subjects including madrasah principals, teachers, madrasah committees, and supervisors. Data analysis uses the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model with stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that madrasah principals implement integrative planning strategies based on the principle of consultation (shura) and organization based on trustworthiness (amanah). Instructional leadership is demonstrated through exemplary modeling (uswatun hasanah) and clinical supervision based on tarbiyah that focuses on continuous professional development. The main supporting factors are principal commitment, teacher dedication, and stakeholder participation, while inhibiting factors include budget constraints, gaps in teacher qualifications, and resistance to change. This study concludes that the integration of modern management functions with Islamic leadership values effectively improves holistic learning quality, encompassing both academic aspects and Islamic character formation. The practical implications of this research provide strategic guidance for madrasah principals and policy recommendations for the Ministry of Religious Affairs in madrasah leadership development.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic educational management in preparing pre-service teachers of Islamic Elementary School Teacher Education (PGMI) to build excellent Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI). Contemporary MI teachers not only serve as instructors but also as learning managers and change agents who require solid managerial competencies. This research aims to analyze PGMI students' understanding of Islamic educational management, identify Islam-based managerial competencies needed, and formulate an integration model of Islamic educational management in developing PGMI students' competencies. Employing a mixed methods approach with explanatory sequential design, the study involved 300 PGMI students for the quantitative phase and 26 informants consisting of students, lecturers, and MI principals for the qualitative phase. Data were collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions, classroom observations, and document analysis. Results indicate that the majority of PGMI students (67%) have moderate understanding of Islamic educational management with an average score of 3.2/5.0. Understanding is limited to classroom management aspects while weak in institutional management, reflecting a curriculum gap that allocates only 3.5% of credits for management learning. The research identifies five domains of Islam-based managerial competencies: Planning (Takhthith), Organizing (Tanzhim), Leadership (Qiyadah), Supervision (Riqabah), and Evaluation (Taqwim). As a solution, the study formulates the PRIMA Model (Professional-Religious Integrated Management for MI Teachers) consisting of four components: Integrated Curriculum, Experience-Based Learning, Managerial Character Development, and Holistic Evaluation. This model received high validation from stakeholders with 85% of lecturers, 90% of MI principals, and 88% of students rating it as highly relevant and needed. This research contributes theoretically by enriching Islamic educational management literature from a teacher preparation perspective, practically by providing a blueprint for PGMI curriculum development, and policy-wise for standardizing national PGMI graduate competencies. Implementation of the PRIMA Model is expected to improve the quality of PGMI graduates and subsequently accelerate the transformation of MI towards excellence..

Abstract

This study comprehensively examined digital transformation leadership in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, revealing that successful technology integration depends fundamentally on principals' capacity to navigate complex tensions between modernization and Islamic identity preservation. The research identified five core leadership strategies: visionary technology leadership with clear roadmaps, systematic capacity building through multi-modal professional development, integration of Islamic values in digital content, contextualized blended learning models, and strategic parental engagement. These strategies collectively constitute what we term "Digital-Islamic Leadership"—a synthesis of digital competencies with Islamic educational principles. The four-pillar digital administration model encompassing student information systems, human resource management, financial systems, and communication platforms demonstrated significant efficiency gains while enabling data-driven decision-making and enhanced stakeholder accountability. Importantly, administrative digitalization freed principals to focus on instructional leadership rather than bureaucratic routines, directly contributing to educational quality improvement. Principals successfully navigated four major challenge domains through innovative contextualized solutions: infrastructure limitations addressed via offline-first systems and resource sharing; human capacity gaps overcome through personalized approaches and champion teacher programs; financial constraints managed through creative financing and open-source adoption; and value preservation achieved through Islamic content curation and balanced technology-spiritual integration. The distinction between institutions creating sustainable digital ecosystems versus those pursuing fragmented implementation highlighted that success requires systemic change encompassing vision, structure, culture, and resources—not merely technology procurement. For policy and practice, findings emphasize that digital transformation investments must prioritize leadership development, change management support, and ecosystem building alongside infrastructure provision. Future research should pursue longitudinal studies tracking sustainability, quantitative outcome evaluations measuring learning impacts, and student-centered investigations exploring digital learning experiences. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that thoughtful, contextually-grounded leadership can leverage technology to enhance Islamic education quality while strengthening rather than compromising religious identity and values.

Abstract

Learning success is greatly influenced by a pleasant learning atmosphere. However, student laziness is often an obstacle that hinders the achievement of learning goals. Teachers' creativity in designing and implementing fun learning is essential to reduce student learning laziness, as well as support success in the learning process. This study aims to describe the form of teacher creativity in reducing student laziness in fiqh learning at MTs An-Nur Palangka Raya. This research is a type of qualitative research with a case study approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, as well as data validation techniques using triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study show that teachers' creativity in fiqh learning is able to effectively reduce students' lazy learning behavior. Teachers apply creativity through four main aspects, namely the ability to think fluently such as teachers explaining difficult material through examples in students' daily lives, high teacher teaching enthusiasm such as the use of loud voice intonation, changes in position in explaining, and body movements used in explaining material, flexible skills such as the use of varied learning methods and models,  and the ability to think rationally such as the teacher's actions in solving problems that occur in the learning process. The implementation of this creativity is realized through the use of varied learning methods and models. Teachers' creativity is also evident from the way the material is delivered that is interactive, humorous, and contextual with students' lives. The application of these creative strategies has succeeded in increasing student participation, focus, and enthusiasm in the learning process.
