Abstract

Quail is one of the potential sources of animal protein from poultry as egg producers. An egg contains complete nutrients, namely protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. As food, eggs must be maintained both physically and chemically to be safe for consumption. This study aimeds to examine the effect of selective feeding on the quality of quail eggs. This research was carried out at Percut Sei Tuan Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, which had been implemented from August to November in 2018. The study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 5 plots. The study used egg samples from quail aged five (5) months. The treatment consists of Commercial feed (T0), 2 energy source feed (rice bran, corn) with 2 (T1), 3 (T2), 4 (T3) protein source feeds (fish meal, soybean meal, coconut meal, Poultry Meat Meal). The results showed that the treatment gave a significant effect (P<0.05) on egg weight, albumen, and eggshell weight, commercial feed showed eggs weight higher than free choice feeding treatments, while among free choice feeding treatment did not show significant effect. The free choice feeding treatment has a significant effect on the yolk weight, where T2 has the lowest yield. Percentage of yolk, albumen, quail eggshell and egg index, egg yolk index, albumen index, haugh unit and quail yolk color did not show significantly different (P>0.05) among treatment. It can be concluded that the commercial feed showed higher egg weight but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the proportion of eggs and the interior quality of quail eggs, while among free choicee feeding treatment has no effect.

The effect of use of palm kernel oil at the level of 40% in the ration on slaughter weight, carcass commercial cuts and meat quality SenSi-1 Agrinak chicken)ABSTRAK. The study was conducted to determine the effect of optimizing the use of PKM/PKMF in the ration on carcass, carcass components, carcass percentage, meat physical, and chemical quality of SenSi-1 Agrinak chicken. The research feed treatments were: P0 (control), P1 = PKM 40%, P2 = PKM 30% + PKMF 10%, P3 = PKM 20% + PKMF 20%, P4 = PKM 10% + PKMF 30%, P5 = PKMF 40%. The treatment feed was given to chickens aged 10 days to 10 weeks, then slaughtered for observation of slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass commercial cuts and carcass percentage (breast, wings, back, upper thigh, lower thigh) and meat quality. The results showed that the use of PKMF 30% + PKM 10% in feed was able to increase slaughter weight, carcass weight, chest weight, lower thigh weight, my weight and reduce abdominal fat, but did not show different results on the percentage of carcass, back, chest, thighs, and wings on Sensi-1 Agrinak chicken. The use of 40% PKMF in the ration was able to increase the protein content of meat but did not show different results on pH, water holding capacity, cooking loss, water content and crude fat in Sensi-1 Agrinak chicken. This shows that the provision of PKMF 30% + PKM 10% and the provision of PKMF 40% are suitable for use in the ration of SenSi-1 Agrinak chickens.

Abstract

Joper chickens are breeds of kampung chickens, Bangkok chickens, or other local breeds of chickens separated from purebred chickens. In addition to genetic factors and feed management, the use of natural constituents as feed additives can affect the meat quality of super hens. Feed additives are ingredients that do not include food substances that are added to the stove in small amounts and are aimed at spurring growth and increasing feed efficiency. The existence of various studies in the selection of feed raw materials that produce quality feed additives that are easy to use and cheap to meet the needs of super rural chickens are moringa leaves. The design used in this research was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment consisted of T0 (Ration does not contain Moringa leaf flour), T1 (Ration contains 6% Moringa leaf flour), T2 (Ration contains 9% Moringa leaf flour), T3 (Ration contains 12% Moringa leaf flour), The parameters observed were feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion. The results showed that Moringa leaf flour had a significant effect on feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion. The best results were obtained in treatment T1, namely the ratio containing 6% Moringa leaf flour, which was able to increase feed consumption by 367.46 grams, body weight gain by 88.62 grams and feed conversion ratio by 4.16.

Abstract

Pre-weaning growth is crucial for achieving high weaning weights, which are expected to positively correlate with the overall performance of does/ewes. Milk replacer, designed to meet the nutritional needs of pre-weaning kids, offers a solution to this challenge. This study aimed to analyze and evaluate the impact of incorporating maggot flour into milk replacer on the performance of pre-weaned Peranakan Etawa (PE) crossbreed goats. The parameters observed included milk replacer intake, nutrient consumption, body weight gain, weaning weight, rectal temperature, respiratory rate, and feed cost per gain. The study involved 10 two-week-old local pre-weaned PE goats, each with an average body weight of 5.33 0.93 kg, divided into two treatment groups with five replicates each. The treatments included a commercial milk replacer (P0) and a milk replacer containing maggot flour (P1). Data were analyzed using an independent t-test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that daily body weight gain in pre-weaned PE goats fed milk replacer containing maggot flour did not differ significantly (P0.05) from those fed the commercial milk replacer. The physiological responses of the pre-weaned goats, including rectal temperature and respiratory rate, were similar between treatments and did not negatively affect their physiological status. The lowest feed cost per gain was observed in the group fed the maggot flour-based milk replacer (P1), indicating its potential economic advantage.
