Abstract

The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2018 showed that elementary school students' math, literacy, and science skills were poor. These problems occurred due to a lack of understanding and memorization of multiplication. They are considered difficult for students to calculate the results of the least common multiple and greatest common divisor. Thus, the development of learning media in mathematics are needed. The developed media was Dakon Koper. The purpose of this study was to develop Dakon Koper media in thematic learning. This research was a development research by implementing the ADDIE model which consisted of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study were the fourth-grade elementary school students. The developed media's feasibility had been determined through a validation questionnaire filled by media, material, and learning experts. Student response questionnaires were used to record students' interest in learning. The expert validation results stated that Dakon Koper was very suitable to be used as a learning medium. The students' questionnaire responses revealed that Dakon Koper was very interesting and useful to support students' learning. Suggestions for the sustainability of this research are product dissemination for learning media in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and simulation-based learning in improving students’ critical thinking skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) instruction at MTs Qur’aniyah Narmada, West Lombok. The research used a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control groups, involving 44 seventh-grade students divided into two experimental classes. One class was taught using AI-integrated applications, while the other employed simulation-based methods. Data were collected through critical thinking tests and student response questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent t-tests. The results showed that the AI class achieved a higher average score (81.14) than the simulation class (73.41), with a statistically significant difference (t = 2.267, p 0.05). These findings suggest that AI offers immediate feedback, adaptive learning, and deeper cognitive engagement, making it more effective than traditional simulation approaches in promoting critical thinking. The study concludes that integrating AI into ICT learning can significantly enhance digital literacy and higher-order thinking skills. This research contributes to the scientific discourse by offering a practical instructional model for madrasahs, especially in rural Indonesian settings. It supports the development of 21st-century competencies among students through innovative, technology-enhanced learning environments.

Abstract

Teachers play a role in their professional development, continuously improving their skills and knowledge through training and ongoing education. They must stay updated on the latest teaching methods and expertise to ensure they provide relevant and up-to-date education. Based on interviews with the school principal and the curriculum vice principal, a problem was identified: teachers were not optimizing their lesson module design due to the numerous tasks they had to complete. Therefore, support is needed to help teachers create lesson modules more efficiently. he proposed solution is to provide guidance in developing lesson modules using the Culturally Relevant Teaching (CRT) approach with AI assistance. Data analysis before and after the mentoring process showed significant improvement among participants. For the CRT concept comprehension indicator, local cultural integration, and culturally responsive lesson module development, there was an improvement from the "needs improvement" to "good" category. Regarding AI comprehension, there was an improvement from "fair" to "good." In the use of AI for lesson module development, the improvement was even more substantial, from "needs improvement" to "very good".

Abstract

One of the teacher's strategies in delivering communication is through gestures. Gestures are a form of nonverbal communication expressed through body movements to convey messages alongside speech. This study aims to analyze the use of teacher gestures in mathematics learning in Grade IV at SDN Sumber 03, Blitar Regency. The success of learning depends on the teacher's communication skills in delivering material. Through gestures, teachers are expected to create an enjoyable mathematics learning atmosphere and enhance students' enthusiasm for learning. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The research subjects were Grade IV teachers at SDN Sumber 03, Blitar Regency. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation in the form of audiovisual recordings and photographs. Data sources consisted of primary data (results of observations and interviews) and secondary data (documentation). Data analysis involved three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation techniques. This research was conducted during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research findings indicate that the teacher used three types of gestures according to Alibali & Nathan's modification of McNeill’s classification: pointing gestures (88 times), representational gestures (22 times), and writing gestures (16 times) in teaching equivalent fractions in mathematics. The pointing gesture was the most dominant type used. Appropriate use of gestures can increase student engagement in the learning process and help them better understand the concepts being taught

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the trends of multimodal use in school learning from the past to the future as an important reflection for education practitioners. This research used SLR method with 19 articles that met the criteria for analysis after inclusion and exclusion process used PRISMA. The result showed that a total of 19 articles conducted research using the most dominant approach, namely a qualitative approach of 73.68% followed by a mixed and quantitative approach. The main keywords that often appear using the VOSviewer application are multimodality, learning, school, and literacy. Related keywords that do not have a direct relationship with multimodality are digital media, media literacy, school, creativity, and cyberspace. This is an opportunity for future research. Regarding the country of origin of the authors, the most are from Australia, namely five articles. The results of the analysis using VOSviewer on the 19 articles showed that Neil Mercer had the most publications cited by other articles. The analysis of the 19 articles illustrates that the most frequent contribution is the development of learning materials, both virtual and non-virtual, using various media, ranging from manual to smartphones. The results of this study provide valuable insights and implications for current and future education policies, particularly in guiding the integration of multimodal learning approaches in schools. These findings offer a foundation for researchers and policymakers to explore and develop strategies aligned with diverse educational objectives and backgrounds..

Abstract

Based on the results of observations and literature studies, it is evident that many students struggle to understand the concept of area. Most of them only memorize formulas. Additionally, many students have limited knowledge of the local culture. This study aims to develop interactive digital media based on local culture, specifically in the form of batik patterns, utilizing local materials. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), employing the ADDIE method, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study's results stated that, according to the validator or media expert, the percentage was 92.86%, categorized as very feasible. The expert provided a percentage of 85.71%, which falls into the very feasible range. The results of the dissemination indicated that the students' responses also showed the media to be very appropriate, with a percentage of 89.64%. The teachers' responses, meanwhile, showed a percentage of 93.75%, which fell within the very feasible category—results of the Wilcoxon Test analysis using the signed rank method. The test shows a p-value of 7.45 × 10^(-9)< 0.05. It can be concluded that there is a significant increase in pre-test and post-test scores. The median score increased from 65.5 (IQR = 9.25) in the pre-test to 77.0 (IQR = 9.75) in the post-test, indicating an overall improvement in student performance. Furthermore, the calculated effect size (r = 0.85) suggests a large practical impact, confirming that the use of the interactive digital module with batik motifs substantially enhanced students’ conceptual understanding of area.
