Abstract

Critical thinking skills are an important competency of the 21st century, but are still low in science learning in elementary schools. One of the efforts to improve is through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media which encourages active student involvement. This study aims to: (1) Determine the increase in students' critical thinking skills in science in elementary schools who receive the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media is better than students who receive the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by PowerPoint, and (2) Determine the effect of increasing students' critical thinking skills in science in elementary schools through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects were students of grades IVA and IVB of SDN Purwamekar on the material of plant body parts. Data collection techniques used pretest, posttest, and documentation. The results of the study showed: (1) The increase in students' critical thinking skills with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality was higher, which was 77.31%, and (2) There was an effect of increasing students' critical thinking skills in science learning in elementary schools through the application of the PBL model assisted by Augmented Reality media of 54.70%. Thus, the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality is effective in improving the critical thinking skills of elementary school students in science.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Problem-Based Learning (PBL) berbantuan media diorama 3D terhadap pemahaman konsep siklus air pada siswa sekolah dasar. Pemahaman terhadap konsep siklus air yang bersifat abstrak seringkali menjadi tantangan utama dalam pembelajaran IPA di SD, sehingga memerlukan intervensi pembelajaran yang efektif dan visual. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 36 siswa kelas V yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pretest dan posttest, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji nonparametrik Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test karena salah satu kelompok data tidak berdistribusi normal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh signifikan yang ditandai dengan peningkatan nilai rata-rata dari 59,75 (pretest) menjadi 73,89 (posttest). Peningkatan ini didukung oleh uji Wilcoxon yang menunjukkan nilai signifikansi p < 0,001 (Sig. < 0,05), sehingga hipotesis alternatif H₁ diterima. Selain itu, seluruh siswa (100%) mengalami peningkatan skor tanpa adanya penurunan, mengindikasikan dampak positif yang merata. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa model pembelajaran PBL berbantuan diorama 3D efektif dan memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan pemahaman konsep siklus air pada siswa sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Peningkatan pemahaman siswa sekolah dasar mengenai konsep bagian tubuh tumbuhan memerlukan penerapan model pembelajaran yang sistematis serta penggunaan media visual yang menarik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah dampak penerapan model Direct Instruction yang dipadukan dengan media TV Box bergambar terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam mengidentifikasi bagian-bagian tubuh tumbuhan. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain One-Group Pretest–Posttest, melibatkan 26 siswa kelas IV sebagai sampel penelitian. Data dikumpulkan melalui empat butir tes esai dan dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas, serta uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan nilai rata-rata dari 66,04 pada pretest menjadi 81,00 pada posttest, disertai kenaikan persentase ketuntasan belajar dari 38,46% menjadi 69,23%. Uji Wilcoxon memperlihatkan nilai signifikansi p < 0,001, yang mengindikasikan perbedaan signifikan antara hasil pretest dan posttest. Selain itu, nilai effect size (r = 0,73) menunjukkan pengaruh yang kuat dari model pembelajaran yang diterapkan. Berdasarkan uraian tersebut, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa penggunaan model Direct Instruction berbantuan media TV Box bergambar terbukti dapat membantu peningkatan kemampuan siswa sekolah dasar dalam mengenali bagian tubuh tumbuhan.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by the Assemblr Edu media on the science literacy skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. The background of this research is based on the low level of students’ science literacy and the lack of variety and innovation in instructional media used by teachers. This research employs a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects were students from class VA as the experimental group and class VB as the control group at SDN Cikalongsari I, Karawang Regency, with 22 students in each class. The experimental class received instruction using the Discovery Learning model assisted by Assemblr Edu media, while the control class was taught using the Direct Instruction model. The instrument used was an essay test designed to measure students' science literacy skills based on three indicators: explaining scientific phenomena, designing and evaluating scientific investigations, and interpreting data and scientific evidence. The data analysis results showed that the influence of the Discovery Learning model assisted by Assemblr Edu on students’ science literacy skills reached 51%, and the N-Gain score of the experimental class was 0.76 or 76%, which falls into the high interpretation category. In comparison, the control class using the Direct Instruction model scored 0.68 or 68%, categorized as moderate. These findings indicate a significant improvement in science literacy skills in the experimental class compared to the control class. Therefore, the use of the Discovery Learning model supported by Assemblr Edu media is proven to be effective in enhancing elementary school students’ science literacy skills.
