Abstract

The study examined how textbooks, as a communication tool, shape gender-related messages and gender equality in social learning by analyzing gendered language in 9th-grade social science textbooks used by Indonesia's first Alpha Generation. The study adopted a sociological perspective to analyze the content and structure of the ninth-grade Merdeka curriculum textbook as an ideological medium of communication. It employed a mixed-methods approach, combining critical content analysis of textual and visual elements with a student survey involving 389 respondents. The findings revealed that the textbook conveyed gender bias through its text and figures, even though Indonesian permits grammatical neutrality. The survey showed that 9th-grade students perceived gender inequality, as they mentioned male figures far more frequently in visuals (277 vs. 67; bias ratio 4.13) and texts (233 vs. 111; bias ratio 2.10), indicating that they actively interpreted male dominance in the textbook's content. The results confirmed that textbooks shaped gendered inequality through implicit communication. The Alpha generation, shaped by constant exposure to digital narratives, may internalize patterns that hinder equitable educational goals. This study suggested that textbooks express social values and educators should create books that offer inclusive perspectives on gender roles to promote gender equality in education.

Abstract

This study examines the behavioral dynamics and social interactions of Muslim school communities by situating them within the ethical framework of the Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Although numerous studies have highlighted the importance of school climate and social relations in shaping educational outcomes, limited attention has been given to how Islamic values concretely inform these processes within Muslim educational contexts. To address this gap, a qualitative case study approach was employed, focusing on patterns of behavior and interaction in Muslim school communities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, and subsequently analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The findings reveal that the Qur’an and Hadith serve not only as spiritual references but also as practical guidelines for cultivating a safe and supportive learning environment, strengthening teacher–student and peer relationships, and reinforcing the influence of family in students’ character formation. These interactions collectively foster a school climate characterized by harmony, inclusivity, and mutual respect. By linking Islamic normative principles with contemporary educational practices, this study underscores the role of religion as a transformative resource in promoting holistic education. The results offer valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers seeking to improve the quality of Islamic education while contributing to broader discussions on values-based education in global contexts.

Abstract

Motivated by the need for greater efficiency and transparency in financial management, the research aims to explore how smart contracts can enhance operational practices while adhering to Islamic principles. This study examines the potential of blockchain-based smart contracts to facilitate Sharia-compliant digital transactions in Islamic boarding schools. A qualitative multiple-case study approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews with school leaders, business managers, and financial administrators from three major Islamic boarding schools, supported by analysis of financial records, transactional agreements, and regulatory documents. Findings indicate that smart contracts can significantly improve financial operations, particularly in managing business partnerships, charitable fund distribution, and educational fee structures. However, successful implementation requires addressing legal recognition of blockchain agreements, establishing accounting standards aligned with AAOIFI guidelines, and ensuring robust Sharia supervision consistent with National Sharia Council-Indonesian Ulema Council directives. The study also highlights variations in digital readiness across schools, emphasizing the need for a phased, context-sensitive adoption strategy. An integrated framework and readiness-based roadmap are proposed, offering a practical pathway for compliant and efficient digital financial management. This research contributes a novel conceptual framework bridging blockchain innovation and Islamic commercial jurisprudence, advancing the integration of Islamic fintech in traditional educational institutions.

Abstract

The global digital economy presents a formidable challenge to traditional institutions, demanding a paradigm shift that balances cultural preservation with economic innovation. This study investigates the construction of an ethical and sustainable Digital Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (DEE) for Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), institutions central to the nation’s social and religious fabric. Grounded in a philosophical synthesis of Indonesia’s People’s Economy (Ekonomi Kerakyatan) principles and Islamic ethics, this research addresses the critical nexus of traditional values and modern digital transactional demands. Employing a qualitative multi-case study of five influential pesantren in East Java, the research identifies the core components and strategic pathways for this digital transition. The findings reveal that a successful ecosystem architecture rests on three pillars: Ethical-Spiritual Governance, leveraging the moral authority of leadership (Kyai) and community trust; Socio-Digital Collaboration, which translates immense social capital into structured digital networks; and Inclusive Capacity Building, which creates accessible pathways for digital literacy and entrepreneurship. This study critiques the conventional technology-centric ecosystem models, proposing a novel, values-driven framework that positions pesantren as architects of a more equitable and culturally resonant digital future. It contributes a philosophically robust model for digital entrepreneurship that prioritizes holistic community welfare (falah) over profit-centric metrics, offering a significant contribution to the discourse on ethical technology adoption in religious communities.

Abstract

Indonesia's ambition to become a global leader in Islamic finance is significantly hampered by a fragmented and sectoral Sharia business law structure. Despite substantial legislative progress, including the enactment of the Sharia Banking Law (Law No. 21 of 2008), the Financial Services Authority Law (Law No. 21 of 2011), and the Halal Product Assurance Law (Law No. 33 of 2014), regulatory power remains dispersed across various institutions and state agencies. This study employs a qualitative doctrinal legal research method, complemented by comparative and descriptive quantitative analysis, to examine Indonesia's current regulatory configuration against the backdrop of jurisdictions like Malaysia, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, and Brunei Darussalam. The findings reveal that overlapping jurisdictions, delayed implementation of fatwa-based rulings, and the absence of a unified Sharia governance framework have constrained the country's Islamic finance regulation. The paper proposes the establishment of an autonomous, comprehensive Sharia Financial Services Authority, the enactment of a professional Sharia Business Law Code harmonized with international standards, and the adoption of technology-based supervision. This contemporary legal reform is essential to ensure institutional consistency, strengthen legal certainty in Islamic finance, and advance public welfare (maslahah) through a fully integrated Islamic financial system in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic education teachers in developing akhlakul karimah among elementary school students through religious programs. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 35 permanent teachers at Amaliah Elementary School, Bogor, Indonesia, through open-ended questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed thematically with the support of NVivo 12 software. The findings showed that teachers serve as facilitators, motivators, educators, role models, guides, and evaluators in strengthening students’ moral character. Their contributions occur both inside and outside the classroom through moral instruction, advice, storytelling, supervision, and exemplary behavior. Religious programs positively influence students’ attitudes, worship practices, discipline, respect, politeness, and social behavior.
