Abstract

Cancer patients usually experience disturbing nausea and vomiting, although they have consumed some medicine before, during, and after chemotherapy. Chemotherapy-induced nausea and Vomiting (CINV) is nausea and vomiting experienced by patients as a result of chemotherapy. CINV is the most significant effect of chemotherapy from the patient’s perspective. CINV is reported as acute, delayed, and combined from both cases. CINV that are not managed properly can cause some problems, such as fluid and electrolyte imbalance, interrupt the next chemotherapy cycle, and decrease productivity and quality of life. Rehospitalization costs caused by CINV in the health care system are high. By the CINV management that is being improved in this time, some patients still experienced nausea and vomiting. Nowadays, non-pharmacological therapy like relaxation techniques is very suggested for patients to relieve CINV. Twenty-five minutes of an audio relaxation technique is effective in decreasing nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. One of the audio relaxation techniques is Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). The case report was taken from one of the type A hospitals in Jakarta, Indonesia . It consisted of 20 cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy. After doing PMR exercise guided by an educational video on a tablet for 4 days after chemotherapy, it was found that there was a 35% decrease in nausea and vomiting scores; they felt comfortable and more relaxed. The interesting educational video of PMR supports the patients to do the exercise well when done in the hospital or at home. Therefore, preventing or reducing the potential problem caused by nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy can increase the nursing care quality for the cancer patient. The results of this case report indicate that progressive muscle relaxation can reduce nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy.

Abstract

End-of-life (EOL) acceptance is a crucial but underexplored concept among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. This study aimed to analyze and clarify the concept of EOL acceptance in hemodialysis patients using Walker and Avant’s eight-step method. These patients often face progressive physical deterioration and limited life expectancy, making psychological, emotional, and spiritual readiness to confront death a fundamental component of care. However, the term “EOL acceptance” lacks conceptual clarity and consistency in nursing practice. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus databases, targeting studies published between 2014 and 2024. The keywords used included ‘end-of-life,’ ‘terminal care,’ ‘death acceptance,’ ‘dying acceptance,’ ‘hemodialysis,’ ‘end-stage renal disease,’ and ‘terminal care nursing’. The analysis identified three attributes of EOL acceptance:  psychological readiness to face death, integration of existential and spiritual meaning, and proactive decision-making toward dignified dying. Supporting factors include awareness of terminal illness, therapeutic communication, and psychosocial-spiritual support. The identified consequences are emotional peace, enhanced family preparation, and improved quality of life. This analysis delineates a conceptual framework for EOL acceptance, enabling nurses to assess and support patients facing terminal illness effectively. It also provides a foundational framework for developing assessment tools and nursing interventions to improve person-centered EOL care for individuals with ERSD.

Abstract

Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction. Early management of sepsis is key to preventing worsening of the patient's condition. Early Goal-Directed Therapy (EGDT) is a method of early sepsis management that has been used for the past 10 years and is an important intervention in the early care of sepsis, the effectiveness and implementation of which are increasingly developing. EGDT is believed to provide comprehensive sepsis management and provide better benefits to sepsis patients. This systematic review aims to compile research findings from the past 10 years regarding the role of EGDT on outcome variables that indicate improvement in sepsis patients. The literature search used PRISMA guidelines from seven database sources and publishers: Science Direct, ProQuest, PubMed, Clinical Key, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, and Springer Nature. Ten articles were subjected to research critique using JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. Several studies have shown that the implementation of EGDT shows significant improvements in mortality, fluid balance, and length of stay. Modification of EGDT with the use of ultrasonography or echocardiography in monitoring fluid responsiveness shows better results in the initial management of sepsis.

Abstract

Abstract

The effective management of postoperative pain and anxiety remains a challenge in patient care. Immersive virtual reality (IVR)-based distraction has been proposed as a non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce these symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of immersive VR-based distraction in reducing postoperative pain and anxiety. This systematic review followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines by identifying studies that assessed immersive VR-based distraction in postoperative patients. Studies published from 2015 to 2025 were searched in ClinicalKey Nursing, EbscoHost, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Taylor and Francis databases. Fourteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included, covering various surgical contexts such as orthopedic, abdominal, cardiac, and oral surgery. Most studies showed that immersive VR-based distraction effectively reduced postoperative pain and anxiety, although some reported no significant effect. Variations in outcomes were influenced by patient characteristics, duration and frequency of VR use, and the type of VR content. Studies were excluded if they involved non-postoperative populations, pediatric samples, non-immersive VR, or non-interventional designs. Overall, immersive VR-based distraction shows promise in reducing postoperative pain and anxiety, although variability in effectiveness highlights the need for further research on technical parameters and clinical implementation
