Abstract

This study explores how Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) teachers perceive, integrate, and respond to the environmental crisis in their teaching practices, and their openness to interfaith, interdisciplinary, and “interplanetary” approaches as an expansion of ecological consciousness. This research employed a qualitative design, utilizing in-depth interviews with eight PAI teachers. Data was analyzed using thematic coding to identify key patterns and themes. The findings indicate that most teachers possess a good awareness of the environmental crisis and ethically and theologically link it to Islamic teachings. Nevertheless, the implementation of ecopedagogy in PAI classes remains largely incidental due to curriculum limitations and insufficient support. Interestingly, teachers demonstrated considerable openness to interfaith and interdisciplinary approaches for enriching the PAI curriculum, viewing them as means to enhance PAI's relevance. While the “interplanetary” idea remains speculative, glimmers of cosmic awareness are present in their narratives, potentially opening new theological insights. The implications suggest the need for explicit integration of ecological ethics into PAI curriculum and comprehensive teacher training modules, alongside the potential development of PAI based on spiritual-cosmological ecopedagogy.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of digital gamification at MTs Nurul Jadid as a strategy to enhance student participation in learning. With the increasing integration of digital technology in education, gamification offers a promising approach to boost student motivation and engagement. Using a qualitative case study design, this study examines key gamification elements, including point systems, levels, and leaderboards, within teaching and learning activities. The findings reveal that gamification positively influences students' intrinsic motivation, leading to increased participation in discussions, questions, and interactions with teachers. This approach fosters a more interactive and enjoyable classroom environment, promoting intensive collaboration and social interaction among students, while improving teacher-student relationships. Consequently, learning extends beyond knowledge transfer to active peer collaboration and mutual support. The study contributes valuable insights toward developing gamification-based learning models suitable for Islamic boarding schools and other educational institutions, aiming to improve learning effectiveness in line with contemporary educational trends.

Abstract

Environmental pollution has become a serious issue in metropolitan areas, including Palembang, with a direct impact on community health and quality of life, particularly in relation to waste management at the final disposal site (Tempat Pembuangan Akhir/TPA). This study aims to explore ecological messages in the Qur’an and Hadith and examine their potential contribution to strengthening faith-based ecological awareness through non-formal Islamic education. This study employed a qualitative approach using a library research design. This study used the Tafsir Mawdu’iy. The data were collected from Qur’anic verses, Hadith, classical and contemporary tafsir, and scholarly literature on ecology and environmental education. Then, they were analysed contextually by integrating scientific and social perspectives. References to community-based educational practices around the Sukawinatan landfill are drawn from secondary sources and documented studies rather than direct field observation. The findings reveal that Qur’anic and Hadith-based ecological education can enhance faith-based environmental awareness. It is reflected in community initiatives such as tree planting and pollution reduction efforts. This study concludes that integrating Islamic ecological teachings into non-formal education has the potential to promote clean and healthy living behaviors and support sustainable environmental management.

Abstract

Effective presentation skills are essential for EFL learners; however, many EFL students struggle to balance verbal proficiency with non-verbal expressiveness, leading to presentations that lack engagement, clarity, and confidence. This study explores how the integration of multimodal communication strategies can bridge the gap between verbal and non-verbal competence in EFL students’ presentations. Using a concurrent embedded mixed-methods design, 17 fourth-semester EFL students were purposively selected from two classes in the teaching Grammar course at Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang. Data were collected through classroom observations, video recordings, and questionnaires, and they were analyzed using thematic and descriptive statistical methods. Findings show significant improvements in verbal delivery (pronunciation, fluency, prosody) and non-verbal expression (eye contact, gestures, posture, spatial awareness). Furthermore, it revealed that multimodal strategies enhance presentation quality and reduce language anxiety by distributing communicative load across multiple modes. It recommends embedding multimodal training in EFL curricula with constructive feedback and accessible digital tools.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of self-awareness competency developed through an ethnopedagogical approach on students' English public speaking skills and their interest in digital entrepreneurship. Using a true experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design model, this study involved 167 purposively selected students from three faculties at the Al-Qur'an Science University of Central Java in Wonosobo (UNSIQ): the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Da’wa and Communication Sciences, and the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Data were analysed using paired sample t-test, N-Gain scores, regression analysis, and ANOVA. The findings indicate that the students’ awareness competency improved after the intervention, followed by a significant enhancement in their English public speaking skills across faculties. The results also show that self-awareness has a substantial influence on students’ interest in digital entrepreneurship. Variations among faculties were identified, reflecting differences in academic backgrounds. Overall, the study demonstrates that integrating self-awareness within an ethnopedagogical learning approach is effective in strengthening students’ communication competence and fostering entrepreneurial interest in higher education contexts.

Abstract

The ongoing violence and conflict between pencak silat schools in Madiun seriously threatens the stability and harmony of the community. This research aims to explore the extent to which non-formal education can play a role as a strategy for conflict reconciliation between two pencak silat schools in Madiun, namely Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) and Persaudaraan Setia Hati Winongo (PSHW). This research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation to identify symbolic interactions related to spirituality and culture. The findings reveal that religious activities, informal dialogue, and the implementation of joint spiritual rituals can create symbolic meanings between the two schools, thereby strengthening fraternal bonds and reducing tensions. The emergence of these activities can foster a shared identity that breaks down sectarian barriers, while also internalizing peace education values such as social cohesion, forgiveness, and mutual respect among the schools. This research has contributed to the study of conflict reconciliation in Indonesia through a spiritually based, non-formal education approach, utilizing a conflict reconciliation model that integrates local traditions. These findings can serve as a reference for policymakers and community leaders in designing sustainable and dialogical approaches to mitigate social conflicts in other multicultural environments that occur in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration between spiritual healing and Islamic education in the practice of ruqyah in Ponorogo. It has been perceived solely as a method of spiritual healing through reciting verses from the Qur'an and special prayers. Some researchers said that it not only serves as therapy but also as Islamic education. This study employed a qualitative case study approach, focusing on the ruqyah practices of Jam'iyyah Ruqyah Aswaja (JRA) Batoro Katong Ponorogo. The data was obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. Then, it was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that ruqyah serves a dual function: first, as a means of healing for individuals experiencing medical, non-medical, or psychological disorders; second, as an instrument of Islamic education that instills the values of faith, worship, and morals in patients. The integration of these two functions shows that ruqyah can be positioned as a holistic religious practice, combining therapeutic and pedagogical aspects. This study implies that ruqyah can be developed as an integrative non-formal model of Islamic education, serving not only as a spiritual healing therapy but also as a medium for nurturing faith, worship, and moral values within the community.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate an integrative innovation model to bridge the weak integration of local wisdom curriculum in Islamic boarding school education. This study used a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. This research was conducted in five Islamic boarding schools: Walisongo Islamic boarding school in Lampung, Al-Kayyis Islamic boarding school in Banten, Al-Mahalli Islamic boarding school in Yogyakarta, Al-Hasan Islamic boarding school in Ponorogo, and Darul Hikam Bendo Islamic boarding school in Kediri. The forms of local wisdom in Islamic boarding schools include gotong royong, piil pesegiri, agrarian culture, social ethics, and digital creativity. Data analysis employed the Folk Development Analysis (FDA), which involved identifying elements of local wisdom, internalization processes, and interpretations. The results of the study show that those five Islamic boarding schools have succeeded in integrating local wisdom values through three main pillars: (1) strengthening local values through the Islamic boarding school curriculum, (2) a socially based contextual approach in the culture of students, and (3) methodological innovations that are in accordance with developments in the digital era. The form of implication of the integration of these values is the formation of a strong, relevant, and adaptive character of students in preserving local wisdom.

Abstract

Mythomanic behavior among adolescents is a serious issue in the educational world because it is often perceived as being overcome solely through rewards and punishments. This research aims to understand how kindness-based pedagogy can be used to reduce mythomanic behavior in adolescents, particularly at Miftahul Ulum Islamic High School, a school located in a rural area with a strong religious background. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study design, utilizing data sources that included students, teachers, and school documents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. Analysis is carried out through reduction, grouping, and narrative interpretation. The results show that five kindness strategies, such as empathetic listening, loving correction, exemplary kindness, peer support through kindness circles, and reflective practice with gratitude and kindness journals, are effective in creating a safe emotional atmosphere, fostering lies, and reducing students' propensity to lie. This research contributes to the development of humanist pedagogical literature by providing a more empathetic, relevant, and sustainable approach compared to traditional models.
