Abstract

This study aimed to describe the effect of PQ4R learning methods with internet-assisted on students’ learning outcomes of class XI SMA Labschool UNTAD Palu on salt hydrolysis material. The type of research was quasi-experimental with a nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design. This study was conducted with two groups, namely the XI IPA class 1 as the experimental group (n = 21) and the XI IPA class 3 as a control group (n = 23). The testing of the research data used a two-party t-test statistical analysis. The results of data analysis obtained that the average of an experimental class was 63.19 with a standard deviation of 7.37 and a control class was 57.22 with a standard deviation of 8.19. The results of testing the hypothesis with the two-party t-test statistics obtained -ttable<tcount> +ttable (tcount 2.54 and ttable 1.68) with a significance level (α) = 0.05 and degrees of freedom (dk) = 35. Based on the results testing of the hypothesis, it can be concluded that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. This means that the PQ4R learning method with internet-assisted has a positive effect on the learning outcomes of students class XI SMA Labschool UNTAD Palu.

This study aimed to determine students' critical thinking ability through the implementation of SAVI (somatic, auditory, visual, and intellectual) learning model on the subject of solubility and solubility product constant (Ksp) at SMA Negeri 5 Model Palu. The study used one group pretest-posttest design. The instruments were lesson plans, critical thinking tests, students' worksheets, and validated observation sheets. Data of critical thinking abilities were analyzed using rubrics with three indicators, i.e. interpretation, analysis, and inference. Results of data analysis on students' critical thinking skills at the pretest on each indicators in Experiment class I were 25.84, 11.13, and 2.44%, respectively; while in class II were 23.51, 1.38, and 0%, respectively. The posttest in Experiment class I were 69.94, 61.13, and 53.51%, respectively, while in class II were 79.55, 48.61, and 49.07%, respectively. The average of students' critical thinking skills ability in experiment class I was 61.02%, and class II was 61.47%. Both of them were in the moderate category. This study concludes that students' critical thinking skills ability with the implementation of SAVI learning model is in a good category. The average of students' critical thinking skills ability in experiment class I was 61.02%, and in experiment class II is 61.47%. Both of them were in the moderate critical thinking category. This study concludes that students' critical thinking skills ability with the implementation of SAVI learning model is in a good category.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine lycopene contents and the antioxidant activity of katokkon chili extract. The extraction process of katokkon chili used the maceration method with the mixture of n-hexane : acetone : ethanol (2:1:1). The concentrated extract of katokkon chili was obtained through the evaporator process at a temperature of 40 ˚C. The analysis process used a UV-Vis spectrophotometer in which the absorbance reading was at λ = 472 nm. The average content of lycopene in katokkon chili extract was 1.457 mg/100g. Testing the antioxidant activity of katokkon chili extract used the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method with positive control the vitamin C. The absorbance readings for the antioxidant activity test were at λ = 517 nm. The test results showed that the antioxidant power of katokkon and vitamin C extracts in reducing DPPH free radicals had a similar result which was equally strong. The IC50 value for chili katokkon extract was 13.84 mg/L, and the IC50 value for vitamin C was 5.78 mg/L, so it can be concluded that chili katokkon can be an alternative source of natural antioxidants to replace vitamin C.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the conceptual changes of students after participating in learning with a blended learning approach on Thermodynamics material. This research is a type of pre-experimental (pre-experimental design) with a One Group Pretest-Postest Design. The blended learning approach is applied using the Problem Based Learning model. The research sample was Class C Odd Semester 2019/2020 students which consisted of 34 students who programmed Physical Chemistry courses. The instrument used is a two-tier multiple choice test which includes concepts in Thermodynamics material which is equipped with a valid CRI. The blended learning approach is one approach that can be used that facilitates student activities in utilizing ICT through the delivery of materials, discussion of task completion, and training in the search for teaching materials on Thermodynamics material. The results showed that misconceptions still occur in every concept of Thermodynamics. The average reduction of misconceptions (MC) is 11.2%, the increase in the number of students to knowing concept (KC) classically is 19.2%, and the decrease in the number of students unknowing concept (UKC) is classically 8.1%. Students' conceptual changes to the material of Thermodynamics are still low. Students are required to understand well the content of the material related to basic concepts, mathematical equations (formulas), and the applicative forms of concepts in everyday life in accordance with the characteristics of the thermodynamic material.

Abstract

Flavonoids are pigments in the gadung mango bark that produce a yellow color. The research on copigmentation of flavonoids from gadung mango bark (Mangifera sp) as coloring agents was carried out by the maceration method using 96% ethanol. The extract obtained was concentrated using a vacuum rotary evaporator at 40 oC. The study aimed to determine levels of flavonoids and stability of color gadung mango bark on the inner and outer of the result copigmentation as a coloring agent. Measurement of total flavonoid levels at a wavelength of 520 nm and 700 nm using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results of this study indicate that the total flavonoids levels in the inner and outer gadung mango bark samples were 0.162 mg/g and 0.359 mg/g, respectively. The color stability of flavonoids of the gadung mango bark inside and outside as the results of copigmentation was stable at the temperature 35 oC and the results obtained in the color stability test of the hero cloth through washing soap water was with a 0 day in 5 hours.

Abstract

The development of science and science and technology is always followed by the development of teachers and students in the field of education. Science and technology has a great influence on life and the environment. Students' understanding of science and its ability to apply it in life. Through this principle, students not only learn to listen to the teacher's explanation, but students can find out the real way of learning. The integration of technology, in this case the Schoology learning management system (LMS), is expected to help students understand science. This study aims to determine students' perceptions of the application of LMS Schoology in the seventh grade students of SMP Gamaliel Palu. The results of quantitative descriptive analysis showed that students gave a positive response to the progress of science by using Schoology.

Abstract

The research objective is to determine whether using AR molecules as a learning medium can assist students in reducing their misconceptions about molecular materials. It was pre-experimental research with a one-group pre-test-post-test design. The average level of validity of the learning media used, according to the findings, is 70.3% ("valid" classification). The average reduction of misconceptions (MC) among students using learning media for the entire concept is 12.8 %, 9.2 % for students who do not understand the concept (DUC), and 22.0 % for students who understand the concept (UC). Based on these findings, it is possible to conclude that AR molecule-based learning media can be used to reduce students' misconceptions about molecular materials.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of applying the STEM approach using Google Classroom on student learning outcomes in acid-base learning. This research is quantitative experimental research with a quasi-experimental. The quasi-experimental design used in this study is a nonequivalent control group design. The sample in this study were students of class XI IPA SMA Al-Khairaat Kolono, 25 students of class XI IPA 1 and 22 students of class XI IPA 2. Data collection techniques used observation and giving tests consisting of pretest and posttest. The results of the learning activity data acquisition were the experimental class 80.4% and the control class 87.5%. This shows that the learning activities of students and teachers during the learning process are categorized as very high. The results of the student test analysis obtained a significance value from the t-test analysis of 0.002 <0.05 so it can be seen that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that there is an effect of student learning outcomes on the application of the STEM approach to acid-base learning using Google Classroom.
