Abstract

Seminar dan workshop diadakan di SMA/SMK Yadika yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam dalam mengajar kususnya mengajar bahasa Inggris. Alat bantu audio-visual adalah perangkat instruksional yang digunakan di kelas untuk mendorong pembelajaran dan membuatnya lebih mudah dan menarik. “Sosialisasi sistem Pengajaran untuk meningkatkan Kompetensi guru-guru SM/SMK Yadika Torganda” yang berlokasi di Perkebunan Sibisa Mangatur Kecamatan Desa Torganda Kecamatan Torgamba Kabupaten Labuhan Batu Selatan . dalam sesi yang diberikan kepada penulis ada lah media ajar, dengan judul Fungsi Media Audio Visual dalam mengajar Bahas ” ternyata Audiovisual media menarik untuk digunakan sebagai media pengajaran, seperti Vidio, Vlog, Bagan, Peta , model, film, strip, proyektor radio, televisi dll yang disebut alat bantu instruksi. Sementara itu, Sampath, K (2007:80) menyatakan bahwa materi audio visual seperti nilai-nilai dasar seperti konkret, pengayaan, dan minat dinamis, media audio visual dapat menjadi efektif media pembelajaran karena mengandung konkrit, content yang pada media audiovisual yang contentnya mungkin jadi pengayaan juga, akan lebih mudah digunakan dalam mengajar bahasa sebagai media yang menarik untuk digunakan.. Dengan menggunakan video,, film, Televisi, Cd, Vlogging dalam mengembangkan pembelajaran, media Audiovisual akan menciptakan suasana dan yang menarib bagi siswa, siswa konsentrasi lebih lama karena menghibur bagi siswa ssalah ssatunya karena content informasinya uptodate. Lebih lanjut bahan audio-visual mencakup bahan dan perlengkapan yang serupa, yaitu bahan yang dianggap sebagai sistem, atau isi /content memiliki nilai potensial dan uptodate , sehingga siswa tertarik mengikuti pelajaran. Perlengkapan atau instruksi, sering disebut sebagai perangkat keras, dari Tanggapan mitra terhadap kegiatan pengabdian ini kami lihat sangat baik terlihat dari questioner yang di jalankan Kata Kunci : Fungsi audio visual media, kelengkapan atau instruksi dalam pengajaran

Abstract

Writing is more than a medium of communication. It means that writing is not just a way to communicate with each other but also a means of ideas and emotional expression (Raymond, 1980).Writing makes words permanent, and thus expands the collective memory of human beings. Spoken words disappear as soon as they are spoken, but writing freezes their thoughts and makes them visible and permanent so people can examine and test their quality.students gotdifficulty starting the writing, they got confused about what to write and also about how to generate ideas. This is because the lack of knowledge about the steps in writing was a procedural factor that cause difficulties for all students. And the most important thing is that writing usually getsthe least attention in teaching learning in the classroom, which makes students rarely exposed to writing.This matter might happen because acquiring writing skills needs a lot of practice, and producing a piece an essay needs a long process. Most researchers recognize this difficulty in writing is caused by the complexity of writing. roundtable teaching technique is a technique that requires a group or team working in the teaching learning process which requires all members to know and be ready to explain their group’s answer(s), when students help their group mates, they help themselves and their whole group, because the response given belongs to the whole group, not just to the group member giving it. Roundtable is a technique designed with a round table form that divides the students into groups with their respective tasks and allows students to work or solve problems by working together in which each member in the group has each task and then the results obtained from the task they have done will be collected and solved simultaneously. Abstract

Penelitian yang berjudul “Analisis Gaya Bahasa Yang Ditemukan Dalam Film “Mimpi Sejuta Dollar” Karya Merry Riana ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis gaya bahasa dan mencoba menemukan penggunaan gaya bahasa yang paling dominan digunakan dalam film “Mimpi Sejuta Dollar”. Ada banyak orang menonton film, orang menonton film kapan saja. Mereka menonton film karena aktor atau aksi dalam film tersebut. Di sisi lain, orang tidak peduli dengan cara percakapan di film, orang tidak mengerti bagaimana aktor mengatur percakapan di film. Film adalah serangkaian gambar diam yang ditampilkan pada layar. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis gaya bahasa yang digunakan dalam film Dialogue Million Dollar Dreams. Penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif untuk menganalisis data dengan empat belas gaya bahasa dari gaya Keraf. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah jenis gaya bahasa yang dominan muncul adalah Gaya Antitesis. Karena film ini mengandung nilai-nilai perjuangan hidup (semangat, pendidikan, keluarga, dan cinta), film ini dapat menginspirasi mahasiswa untuk memperjuangkan pendidikan di universitas, dan ada tiga bahasa yang digunakan dalam film ini. (Bahasa Indonesia, Melayu, dan Inggris) sehingga sangat menarik untuk dilakukan penelitian. Peneliti menyatakan karena definisi gaya bahasa antitesis yang mengandung gagasan kontradiktif, maka kemungkinan besar dalam film Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dollar banyak mengandung kontradiksi antara mimpi Merry Riana dengan kehidupan nyata yang dijalaninya.

Abstract

Communication is important for people around the world. Without communication, people will not be able to communicate each other. In understanding some different languages, people need to learn the target language to communicate with, for instance Indonesian people learn to acquire English. In the context that English in Indonesia is considered as foreign language, it causes the learners understand not only the language but also the culture. In order to convey their messages and remain in a conversation until their communication goal is achieved, ESL (English as a Second Language) learners need to employ communication strategies, which have been defined generally as devices used by second language by second language learners to achieved specific communication goals. This study was aimed to find teacher communication strategies during classroom interaction. The use of those communication strategies is underlying two main reason which are solving the speaking problems and making interactive speaking and learning situation. Teachers used various communication strategies to stimulate learners to be more active during the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Keterampilan menulis merupakan salah satu dari empat keterampilan yang harus dipelajari dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Keterampilan tersebut juga dipelajari pada tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas atau Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan. Peneliti yang mengajar di SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan) di Kota Gunungsitoli, Sumatera Utara, menemukan siswa kelas X-1 tahun ajaran 2022/2023 kesulitan dalam mengorganisasikan isi dan pengorganisasian teks. Untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut, peneliti menggunakan metode mind map untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan siswa. Metode ini berlaku pada siswa kelas X-1 Tata Busana sebagai sampel penelitian. Kelas tersebut mempunyai 34 siswa. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Sedangkan untuk mengumpulkan data peneliti menggunakan diskusi dan wawancara. Semua siswa di kelas tersebut menjawab pertanyaan yang diberikan oleh peneliti. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah metode mind map sangat membantu siswa dalam menulis dengan mudah, dan teknik mind map juga merupakan cara yang tepat agar siswa tidak merasa malas dan bosan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This study aimed to idenify (1) wether there was an effect of using Jigsaw Strategy on Students' reading Comprehension of visual and auditory Learning Style at SMP Negeri 3 Lintonghihuta. (2) whether there was different effect of using Jigsaw Strategy on Students' reading Comprehension of visual and auditory Learning Style at SMP Negeri 3 Lintonghihuta. The design of this study was mixed design quantitative comparation with quasi - experimental research that aimed to determine whether the relationship between the experimental group and comparison group in reading comprehension, the experimental group is the group that received the treatment. One class from the population was taken as samples by using a purposive-sampling technique. There were 32 students were taken as populations from class IX – 1. The class will be taught by Jigsaw strategy to know the reading comprehension achievement then compared between the auditory and visual learning style. The results of this study were (1) there was different post-test score between auditory and visual class where the visual class had higher score (71,25) than the auditory class (67,00) after being taught using jigsaw strategy. The result of  the paired sample t-test  showed that the values of sig (2-taieled) was 0,000 < 0,050 which means that there was significant different between the Pre-test and Post-test and it can be concluded that there was mean difference between the pre-test and the post-test of reading comprehension score of visual and auditory learning style after taught using jigsaw strategy.(2) Based on the ANCOVA test it was found that the value of level of significance of learning style was 0.120 and the value of level of Jigsaw strategy significance level was 0,162. It can be said that there was no significance effect of jigsaw strategy on students’ reading comprehension of auditory and visual and auditory Learning Style at SMP Negeri 3 Lintonghihuta.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the Junior High School students in writing and speaking the English recount texts through the Think, Write and Practice method. This classroom action research with three cycles was conducted to the first semester students at VIII-2 of an academic year 2022/2023 in the Bintang Timur Junior High Scholl. The research subjects included 32 students altogether. Data were collected using observation checklist, test, questionnaire, document, and anecdotal record. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively, based on the performance indicator as ? 78 % achievement in writing and speaking recount texts in English. Results show that “The Think, Write and Practice Method” could improve the students’ recount text writing and speaking competency. The process used paper/notes, stationery, experiences list, google translate apps, u-dictionary apps, what’sapp, dictionary books, an active loudspeaker.The performance indicators in writing and speaking recount texts consisted of: choosing clear idea, developing coherent paragraph, structuring sentence, constructing grammatical sentence, and using appropriate diction for writing, and pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency and understanding/contents in speaking. The students’ mean score in writing recount text improved from 67,78 in pre-cycle to 75,01 in cycle 1; 75.51 improved to 78.52. Because there is still one component gets failed, so, it needs the third cycle. In cycle 2 ; and 78,52 improved to 83,11 in cycle 3. Then, it has a significant improvement as well to their speaking competence. In average, pre-cycle it was 66,23. Then it improved to the first cycle. It was 70,79. Next, it reached to 77,33 to the second cycle, till 83,65 in the third cycle. Keywords: Writing, Speaking, Recount Text, Application Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan siswa SMP dalam menulis dan berbicara teks recount bahasa Inggris melalui metode Think, Write and Practice. Penelitian tindakan kelas dengan tiga siklus ini dilakukan pada siswa semester 1 kelas VIII-2 tahun ajaran 2022/2023 di SMP Bintang Timur. Subyek penelitian seluruhnya berjumlah 32 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan daftar periksa observasi, tes, angket, dokumen, dan catatan anekdot. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif, berdasarkan indikator kinerja sebagai ? 78% pencapaian dalam menulis dan berbicara teks recount dalam bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa “Metode Berpikir, Menulis, dan Berlatih” dapat meningkatkan kompetensi menulis dan berbicara teks recount siswa. Prosesnya menggunakan kertas/catatan, alat tulis, daftar pengalaman, aplikasi google translate, aplikasi kamus, what'sapp, buku kamus, pengeras suara aktif. Indikator kinerja dalam menulis dan berbicara teks recount terdiri dari: memilih ide yang jelas, mengembangkan koheren paragraf, menyusun kalimat, menyusun tata bahasa kalimat, dan menggunakan diksi yang tepat untuk menulis, dan pengucapan, struktur, kosa kata, kelancaran dan pemahaman / isi dalam berbicara. Nilai rata-rata siswa dalam menulis teks recount meningkat dari 67,78 pada pra-siklus menjadi 75,01 pada siklus 1; 75,51 membaik menjadi 78,52. Karena masih ada satu komponen yang gagal, maka diperlukan siklus ketiga. Pada siklus 2 ; dan 78,52 meningkat menjadi 83,11 pada siklus 3. Kemudian, ada peningkatan yang signifikan juga pada kompetensi berbicara mereka. Rata-rata pra siklus adalah 66,23. Kemudian ditingkatkan ke siklus pertama. Itu 70,79. Selanjutnya mencapai 77,33 pada siklus kedua, menjadi 83,65 pada siklus ketiga. Kata Kunci: Menulis, Berbicara, Teks Recount, Aplikasi

Abstract

Speaking is the ability to convey information or expressing to convey everything in their mind orally. Therefore, it is important for students to master speaking in their daily life because through speaking students can express their ideas, feelings, opinions, and knowledge. There were some problems faced by the students in speaking in Second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan namely: the students lacked vocabularies, and the students are not able to deliver their suggestion and advice. Therefore, to overcome the problems, the researcher conducted this research by using “Whip Around” Strategy in second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. The purpose of the research is to Improving the students’ ability in speaking by using whip around Strategy at the second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. To achieve the purpose, the researcher conducted CAR Method. The result of the data in Cycle I showed the average of students’ value was 60, the maximum score was 78 and the minimum score was 41. While in Cycle II 20 students (100%), the student got the maximum score was 83 and the minimum score was 75. From the result o the research, it can be concluded that “Whip Around” Strategy Improvings the students’ speaking ability in second grade of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Finally, the researcher suggested all English teacher to use this strategy in teaching speaking skill because “Whip Around” Strategy is effective to Improving the students’ ability in speaking. “Whip Around” Strategy encourages the students’ to express their suggestion and advice orally and engaged the student high motivation during the teaching and learning process. Abstrak Berbicara adalah kemampuan untuk menyampaikan informasi atau mengungkapkan untuk menyampaikan segala sesuatu dalam pikiran mereka secara lisan. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi siswa untuk menguasai berbicara dalam kehidupan sehari-hari karena melalui berbicara siswa dapat mengungkapkan ide, perasaan, pendapat, dan pengetahuannya. Ada beberapa masalah yang dihadapi siswa dalam berbicara di kelas II SMA Negeri 8 Medan yaitu: siswa kekurangan kosa kata, dan siswa tidak mampu menyampaikan saran dan nasihat mereka. Oleh karena itu, untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti melakukan penelitian ini dengan menggunakan Strategi “Whip Around” di kelas II SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara dengan menggunakan strategi cambuk di kelas dua SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peneliti melakukan Metode PTK. Hasil data pada Siklus I menunjukkan rata-rata nilai siswa 60, nilai maksimal 78 dan nilai minimal 41. Sedangkan pada Siklus II 20 siswa (100%), siswa mendapat nilai maksimal 83 dan skor minimal adalah 75. Dari hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Strategi “Whip Around” meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa di kelas dua SMA Negeri 8 Medan. Akhirnya, peneliti menyarankan semua guru bahasa Inggris untuk menggunakan strategi ini dalam mengajar keterampilan berbicara karena Strategi “Whip Around” efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara. Strategi “Whip Around” mendorong siswa untuk mengungkapkan saran dan nasihat mereka secara lisan dan melibatkan motivasi siswa yang tinggi selama proses belajar mengajar. Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study mainly describes the translation idiomatic sentence found in Folklore’s book of Malin Kundang. However, the process of translating is not as simple as switching the meaning of word for word based on the literal context. Idioms are one of the most problematical components of language. Idioms cannot be easily to translate because their meaning is unpredictable. This study is aimed (1) finding out the idiom expressions in Folklore’s book of Malin Kundang, (2) finding out the meaning of the idiom expressions in Folklore’s book of Malin Kundang, and (3) the kinds of strategies which are used in translating the idiomatic expression in Folklore’s book of Malin Kundang. The data were collected by reading the Folklore’s book of Malin Kundang in Indonesian version and listing all the idioms found in the source text and their translation in the target text, displaying each of them into tables.

Abstract

One of the key skills in the educational process of learning English is listening comprehension skill. Despite its significance in English learning, most students find it difficult to master when practicing listening comprehension. This research aims to analyze the difficulties that students most frequently encounter with listening comprehension particularly at class XI MIPA 2 SMA Swasta Pembda 1 Gunungsitoli in 2023/2024 academic year. The research approach used in this research was descriptive qualitative. 36 students of class XI MIPA 2 were chosen as samples using the cluster sampling technique. Questionnaires were used to gather the data. All students in the class received the questionnaire from the researcher. The research findings demonstrated that the listening material, the listener, and the physical setting were all related to the difficulties the students faced in comprehending what they were listening
