Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui masalah menulis yang dihadapi oleh siswa MTs. Al-Haq Palu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas tujuh MTs. Al-Haq Palu, dengan jumlah 21 siswa yang diambil dari satu kelas dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan melakukan tes, wawancara, dan daftar pertanyaan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa menghadapi banyak masalah yang meliputi 1 mereka kekurangan kosakata; 2 mereka kesulitan untuk mengembangkan ide mereka; 3 mereka tidak dapat menggunakan kata dengan tepat; dan 4 mereka tidak dapat menggunakan pengejaan dan tanda baca dengan baik.Kata kunci: Kesulitan, Menulis, Deskriptif Teks.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam memahami teks naratif dalam bahasa Inggris. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas IPA 1 SMA Negeri 6 Sigi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes dan wawancara. Tes digunakan untuk mendapatkan data tentang kesulitan siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan. Selanjutnya, wawancara digunakan untuk mendukung data tentang kesulitan siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan siswa adalah kurangnya kosakata, kemampuan memahami teks naratif yang rendah, pemahaman yang kurang memadai tentang struktur dan jenis teks naratif secara umum, tidak tertarik pada teks bacaan bahasa Inggris, bosan membaca teks bahasa Inggris, dan kesulitan menggunakan bentuk lampau dalam teks naratif. Dengan kata lain, siswa kelas sebelas SMA Negeri 6 Sigi masih mendapatkan kesulitan memahami teks naratif.Kata kunci: Kesulitan, Pemahaman, Bacaan Naratif

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui masalah pendengaran yang dihadapi oleh mahasiswa semester tiga Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 3 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu. Jumlahnya adalah tujuh siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui daftar pertanyaan, wawancara, dan observasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa menghadapi banyak masalah; (1) mereka kesulitan menentukan ide utama dan merinci informasi; (2) mereka kekurangan kosakata; (3) mereka kurang berinisiatif untuk membaca; (4) mereka mendapat kesulitan dengan aksen pembicara; (5) mereka kurang fokus; (6) mereka kurang memiliki motivasi untuk mengekspresikan diri.Kata kunci: Masalah, keterampilan menyimak

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the difficulties in reading comprehension encountered by the second grade students of SMA YPTB Ketong. The researcher used descriptive method. The subject of this research was 24 students of the second grade of SMA YPTB Ketong. The data was collected by interviewing the students and the English teachers. The result of this research shows some findings. The result of questionnaire shows that 71% students who agree that they do not give more attention in reading text and 71% students who agree that they do not master grammar when reading a text as a higher percentage. Furthermore, the result of interview from the teachers shows that in the teaching process they do not know the name of the method, explain more and more because students get confused in understanding and translating the words in reading text. The student have insufficient vocabulary so that they find it difficult to understand reading comprehension, difficult in getting message from the reading text, to understand the teacher’s explanation and words in English that have more than one meaning.Keywords: Difficulties, Reading, and Comprehension.

Abstract

This research was conducted at the Seventh Grade students of MTs. Negeri 1 Palu. It was quasi experimental research as design. The sample was Seventh B and Seventh C consisting 30 students each. The data was collected from the Test (Pre-test and Post-test). The findings of the research shows that the application of tree technique can increase students’ Vocabulary mastery. The result of pretest shows the average score of the experimental group is 65.13, while the average score of the control group is 72.92. Meanwhile, the result of the posttest reveales that the average score of the experimental group is 74.59, while in the average score of the control group is 68.06. The difference in vocabulary scores of the experimental group and the control group is 6.53. It shows that the average score of the experimental group is higher than the control group. Using t-test, the calculated t-value is found 7.287. It is higher than the t-table value which is 2.019. From the calculation, it can be stated that there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. The researcher concludes that the students can increase their vocabulary mastery through the use of tree technique. Furthermore, with this technique the students are able to explore their new vocabularies.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the writing problems faced by grade seven students of MTs. Al-Haq Palu. This research applied descriptive method. The subject was grade seven students of MTs. Al-Haq Palu, with 21 students taken from one class by using total sampling technique. The data of the research were collected by carrying out the test, interview, and questionnaire. The result of this research indicates that the students faced many problems which include (1) they were lack of vocabulary; (2) they got difficulty to explore their ideas; (3) they could not choose appropriate words; and (4) they could not use spelling and punctuation well.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the listening problems faced by the third semester students of English Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University Palu. This research applied descriptive research method. The subject was the third semester students of English Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University Palu. The number was seven students. The data of the research were collected through a questionnaire, interview, and observation check list. The result of this research indicates that the students faced problems; (1) they get difficulty to determine the main idea and details information; (2) they are lack of vocabulary; (3) they are less initiative to read; (4) they get difficulty with speaker’s accent; (5) they get less focus; (6) they have less motivation to express themselves.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the students’ difficulties in comprehending English reading narrative text. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade IPA 1 students of SMA Negeri 6 Sigi. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The instruments were test and interview. The test was used to gain data of the students’ difficulties in comprehending reading text. Furthermore, the interview was used to support the data about the students’ difficulties in comprehending reading text. The finding showed that the students’ difficulties are lack of vocabulary, low ability in comprehending narrative text, not have enough understanding about the general structure and types of narrative text, have no interest in English reading text, bored in reading English texts, and difficulties used past tense in narrative text. In other words, the students at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 6 Sigi still got difficulties in comprehending reading narrative text.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menginvestisgasi apakah pengaplikasian dari metode Task-Based-Teaching meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara  siswa kelas VIII di MTs. Al-Istiqomah Lasoani atau tidak. Penelitian ini menggunakan eksperimental semu desain penelitian. Populasi ini adalah siswa kelas VIII MTs. Al-Istiqomah Lasoani yang terdiri dari 3 kelas. Jumlah total siswa adalah 61. Sampel ini adalah  VIII B (20) sebagai  grup kontrol dan VIII C (20) sebagai  grup experimental. Data telah dikumpulkan melalui  tes (sebelum-test dan setelah-test). Hasil dari penelitian ini mengindikasi bahwa nilai t-counted adalah 3.01. Peneliti menemukan bahwa nilai t-table adalah 0.320 melalui penerapan dari  nilai signifikan 5% dan derajat kebebasan 38 (df=40-2). Nilai t-counted adalah lebih tinggi dari nilai t-table. Ini dimaksudkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (ha) adalah diterima. Ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode task-based-teaching dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa.Kata Kunci: Kelanncaran, ketepatan, and Dimengerti
