Abstract

Teaching Arabic in Indonesia often challenges fostering practical language skills, particularly at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and universities. The Language Immersion method, which involves intensively using the target language in natural situations, offers an appealing alternative to enhance Arabic proficiency. While several studies have discussed this method, there remains a gap in its systematic application in academic settings. This study aims to explore the approach and implementation of the Language Immersion method in Arabic teaching at UIN Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember. It employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research locus is the Arabic Language Education Program at UIN Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, with lecturers and students as subjects. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction, presentation, and conclusion-drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the language immersion method significantly improves Arabic students' speaking, reading, and listening skills. Through discussions, role-playing, and presentations, students learn contextually. However, challenges such as lecturer consistency, limited resources, and the need for Arabic-speaking environments outside the classroom must be addressed for optimal results.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to find out the usage of expressions for improving speaking skill in teaching Arabic for students in the Islamic Junior High School 2 Kediri, and to know the effectiveness of it. The approach used for this research was a quantitative approach. As for the research method, it was the experimental method. The population in this research was the students in the Islamic Junior High School 2 Kediri in the 8th grade "A" with a total of 35 students. Then the researcher divided into two groups, namely the control group and the experimental group. The number of students in the control group was fifteen and twenty students were in the experimental group. The results of this research was T = 14,600 and sig (p) = 0,000, 0,505. H0 = Payback and H1 = Acceptable. So there was a difference between using expressions before and after. In other words, the application of expressions for improving speaking skill is useful for facilitating daily communication between students.

Abstract

Ketergantungan siswa sekolah dasar terhadap gadget telah memunculkan penurunan interaksi sosial dan keterlibatan belajar, khususnya pada mata pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS) yang menekankan pengembangan kompetensi sosial. Meskipun penelitian mengenai permainan tradisional telah dilakukan, sebagian besar kajian terdahulu berfokus pada aspek motorik dan kognitif, sehingga belum memberikan pemahaman komprehensif mengenai integrasi permainan engklek sebagai media pembelajaran kolaboratif. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis peran engklek dalam memperkuat partisipasi, komunikasi, dan kerja sama siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan locus di SD Baiturrohman Jember. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, angket, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola partisipasi dan dinamika interaksi siswa. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa engklek berkontribusi signifikan dalam menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang aktif, partisipatif, dan berbasis pengalaman langsung. Selain meningkatkan motivasi dan kemandirian siswa, engklek terbukti mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap gadget serta memperkuat nilai kerja sama dan interaksi sosial. Penelitian ini menawarkan kontribusi teoretis berupa pemodelan integrasi permainan tradisional dalam kerangka pedagogis IPS, serta kontribusi praktis berupa strategi pembelajaran berbasis budaya lokal yang aplikatif dan relevan dengan kebutuhan pendidikan dasar kontemporer. The pervasive dependency of elementary school students on digital gadgets has precipitated a notable decline in social interaction and academic engagement, particularly within Social Sciences (IPS), a subject critically reliant on developing social competencies. While extant research on traditional games exists, it has predominantly emphasized motor and cognitive dimensions, thereby lacking a comprehensive examination of their integration as collaborative pedagogical tools. This qualitative descriptive study, situated at SD Baiturrohman Jember, analyzes the role of the traditional engklek (hopscotch) game in bolstering student participation, communication, and cooperation in IPS. Data gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and documentation were subjected to thematic analysis, revealing that engklek significantly fosters an active, participatory, and experiential learning environment. The game not only enhanced student motivation and autonomy but also effectively mitigated gadget dependency while reinforcing cooperative values and social interaction. Consequently, this study provides a theoretical contribution by modeling the integration of traditional games into an IPS pedagogical framework and a practical contribution by offering an applicable, culturally-grounded learning strategy relevant to contemporary primary education needs.

Abstract

Perubahan iklim telah meningkatkan frekuensi cuaca ekstrem, mengancam ketahanan hidup pedagang kecil perkotaan di wilayah rawan bencana. Penelitian terdahulu lebih banyak membahas kerentanan ekonomi, namun masih terbatas dalam mengungkap proses transformasi mata pencaharian sebagai sebuah fenomena sosial yang dinamis dan penuh makna. Penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara mendalam proses transformasi mata pencaharian yang dialami oleh pedagang kecil di sekitar kampus sebagai respons terhadap tekanan cuaca ekstrem. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan studi dokumentasi terhadap pedagang sayur yang dipilih secara purposif. Temuan kunci penelitian mengungkap tiga bentuk transformasi. Pertama, transformasi sektoral dari jasa pangan ke ritel sayur yang melalui periode jeda sebagai bentuk resiliensi. Kedua, transformasi model usaha dari keliling ke menetap yang mengoptimalkan stabilitas dan kedalaman layanan. Ketiga, transformasi keahlian melalui adopsi teknologi digital yang justru memperkuat nilai-nilai pelayanan manusiawi, menciptakan hybriditas unik. Secara implikasi, penelitian ini menawarkan peta jalan transformatif bagi pembuat kebijakan untuk merancang intervensi yang tidak hanya teknis, tetapi juga mempertimbangkan dimensi sosio-kultural dan temporal dari proses adaptasi, serta memperkaya teori sosial dengan perspektif humanisme dalam transformasi digital.

Abstract

The child lineage under Islamic law and its implementation in Indonesia’s civil registration system face complex challenges that impact the protection of children’s rights. This study examines lineage under Islamic law and its implications for the registration of biological fathers, particularly for children born out of wedlock. This study adopts empirical juridical methods with qualitative, statutes, and conceptual approaches. Although the Constitutional Court ruling has opened the way for the civil recognition of biological fathers, its implementation conflicts with the principle of lineage under Islamic law, which limits inheritance and maintenance rights. Regulatory gaps in civil registration create legal uncertainty and are potentially discriminatory against children’s civil rights. The author argues that policy harmonization that balances the protection of children’s civil rights with respect for Islamic legal values, increases the socialization of legal procedures, and strengthens child protection mechanisms is key to addressing this issue. These findings underscore the need for a balanced approach that combines Islamic legal principles with administrative requirements to protect children’s rights.

Abstract

The Al-Hidayah Islamic boarding school has many activities, including the sorogan yellow kitab. The weakness of the translation process among students in teaching the book makes the researcher want to improve to it. Therefore, the researcher compared whether literal translation was effective for students’ reading skill or not. This research approach quantitative, while this type of research is experiment quantitative. The population in this research were 78 students of Islamic boarding school Al-Hidayah, while the sample taken from class eleven was 16 students. The techniques used quantitative descriptive statistics, validity test, normality test, paired t test and N-Gain score. In this test, the average N-Gain value was (0.5986) or (59.8595%). Based on the result mentioned, the literal translation strategy in the Arabic-Indonesian electronic dictionary was effective in improving the reading skill of students at Al-Hidayah Islamic boarding school for academic year 2023/2024. Meanwhile for the normality value of the Sig. (2-tailed) pretest of 1.155 and posttest of 0.448 its greater than 0,05. Hypothesis test of literal translation strategy with Arabic-Indonesian electronic dictionary to improve reading skills of Islamic boarding school Al-Hidayah students that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Results paired t-test Sig (2-tailed) is (0.001) less than (0.05). Therefore, the literal translation strategy in the Arabis-Indonesian electronic dictionary is effective in improving the reading skill of students at Al-Hidayah Islamic boarding school for the academic year 2023/2024.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate ASWED (Arabic Story with Educaplay), a digital learning media designed to improve students’ Arabic listening (istima’) and reading (qira’ah) skills at the junior high school level. This study aims to examine: (1) the development process of the ASWED digital media for teaching istima’ and qira’ah; (2) its quality based on expert and user evaluations; and (3) its effectiveness in improving students’ istima’ and qira’ah skills. Using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, the media was developed through content design, integration of narration with Educaplay, and expert validation. Data were collected through validation sheets, pretest–posttest instruments, and interviews with teachers and learners. The results showed that ASWED was rated “very feasible” by experts with scores of 86.15% (material), 100% (media), and 85.3% (practitioners). In terms of effectiveness, the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement from pretest to posttest (M = 63.77 → 77.79; p < .001, d = 0.56), while the control group experienced a significant decline (M = 84.23 → 44.73; p < .001, d = −2.41). Independent t-tests revealed a large effect size in favor of the experimental group (d = 2.34). Furthermore, student responses indicated that ASWED was engaging, motivating, and suitable for independent learning. These findings highlight that ASWED not only improves language competence but also addresses challenges in conventional Arabic instruction by integrating digital innovation. Future research may extend this approach to other Arabic skills and broader educational contexts.

Abstract

Tourism is a vital sector capable of driving economic transformation, particularly in developing regions such as Jember. However, previous studies have largely concentrated on the growth of the tourism industry without thoroughly examining how it empowers local communities or contributes to poverty reduction. This research addresses that gap, as non-inclusive tourism development often results in unequal distribution of benefits for nearby communities. The article aims to outline the key issues surrounding the limited participation and capacity of local residents in tourism activities, while also presenting empowerment strategies that can enhance their overall well-being. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach conducted in several tourist villages in Jember Regency. Data were collected through interviews, field observations, and document analysis, then processed using data reduction, thematic categorization, and in-depth interpretation. The findings reveal a collaborative empowerment model involving government actors, local communities, and industry stakeholders that effectively increases income levels and strengthens community self-reliance. The study concludes that inclusive tourism has the potential to act as a catalyst for economic transformation when community-based empowerment strategies are implemented consistently and sustainably.

Abstract

Digital dictionaries have become an essential tool in Arabic language learning for non-native speakers, particularly due to their accessibility and practical features. This study investigates the articulation techniques employed in Arabic digital dictionaries and evaluates their contribution to supporting Arabic–foreign language translation. The study adopts a qualitative design through a focused literature review of two commonly used Arabic digital dictionaries, namely Al-Maʿani Dictionary and Mutarjim Dictionary, selected based on their widespread use among learners and educators. Relevant academic sources discussing digital lexicography, articulation systems, and Arabic language instruction were also examined. The findings indicate that both dictionaries apply an articulation-based pronunciation system (Nidzām an-nuṭqī), which enables users to locate vocabulary efficiently by relying on initial sound patterns rather than traditional root-based searching. While this system is beneficial for speeding up word retrieval, several translation entries were found to lack grammatical accuracy and consistency with Arabic linguistic rules. Moreover, most dictionaries provide limited morphological explanations, which may encourage learners to prioritize convenience over linguistic understanding. This study contributes to the field by highlighting structural and pedagogical limitations in Arabic digital dictionaries and underscores the importance of integrating Arabic morphological instruction to support more comprehensive and accurate language learning. Abstrak Kamus digital telah menjadi alat penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab bagi penutur non-asli, terutama karena aksesibilitas dan fitur praktisnya. Studi ini meneliti teknik artikulasi yang digunakan dalam kamus digital bahasa Arab dan mengevaluasi kontribusinya dalam mendukung penerjemahan bahasa Arab ke bahasa asing. Studi ini mengadopsi desain kualitatif melalui tinjauan literatur yang terfokus pada dua kamus digital bahasa Arab yang umum digunakan, yaitu Kamus Al-Maʿani dan Kamus Mutarjim, yang dipilih berdasarkan penggunaannya yang luas di kalangan pelajar dan pendidik. Sumber-sumber akademis yang relevan yang membahas leksikografi digital, sistem artikulasi, dan pengajaran bahasa Arab juga diperiksa. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kedua kamus tersebut menerapkan sistem pengucapan berbasis artikulasi (Nidzām an-nuṭqī), yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk menemukan kosakata secara efisien dengan mengandalkan pola bunyi awal daripada pencarian berbasis akar kata tradisional. Meskipun sistem ini bermanfaat untuk mempercepat pencarian kata, beberapa entri terjemahan ditemukan kurang akurat secara tata bahasa dan konsisten dengan aturan linguistik bahasa Arab. Selain itu, sebagian besar kamus memberikan penjelasan morfologis yang terbatas, yang dapat mendorong pembelajar untuk memprioritaskan kemudahan daripada pemahaman linguistik. Studi ini berkontribusi pada bidang ini dengan menyoroti keterbatasan struktural dan pedagogis dalam kamus digital bahasa Arab dan menggarisbawahi pentingnya mengintegrasikan pengajaran morfologi bahasa Arab untuk mendukung pembelajaran bahasa yang lebih komprehensif dan akurat.

Abstract

Lexical errors in translation often lead to conceptual misunderstandings and semantic distortion, especially in academic contexts where terminological precision is crucial. This study aims to analyze lexical errors in the translation of Indonesian scientific articles into Arabic, focusing on the types, causes, and implications of such errors. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, this research examines five translated academic articles through comparative textual analysis. The findings reveal that lexical misuse, omission, and mistranslation are the most frequent types of errors. These errors typically stem from inadequate lexical equivalence, lack of contextual comprehension, and overreliance on digital translation tools. The study concludes that strengthening lexical awareness and contextual understanding is essential for improving translation quality. The results are expected to contribute to translation pedagogy, enhance scientific communication, and support the development of Arabic–Indonesian academic translation standards.ABSTRAKKesalahan leksikal dalam penerjemahan sering menyebabkan kesalahpahaman konsep dan distorsi semantik, terutama dalam konteks akademik di mana ketepatan istilah sangat penting. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan leksikal dalam penerjemahan artikel ilmiah berbahasa Indonesia ke bahasa Arab, dengan fokus pada jenis, penyebab, dan dampak dari kesalahan tersebut. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, penelitian ini menelaah lima artikel akademik yang telah diterjemahkan melalui analisis teks komparatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan penggunaan kata (misuse), penghilangan (omission), dan salah terjemah (mistranslation) merupakan jenis kesalahan yang paling sering muncul. Kesalahan ini umumnya disebabkan oleh kurangnya kesetaraan leksikal, keterbatasan pemahaman konteks, dan ketergantungan berlebihan pada alat penerjemahan digital. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa peningkatan kesadaran leksikal dan pemahaman kontekstual sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kualitas penerjemahan. Hasil penelitian diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi pada pedagogi penerjemahan, memperkuat komunikasi ilmiah, dan mendukung pengembangan standar penerjemahan akademik Indonesia ke Arab.
