Abstract

Health problems occur in the elderly due to a decrease in body function, one of which is a decrease in musculoskeletal function, namely Arthritis Gout. Ergonomic gymnastics is a physical activity that can help lower uric acid levels. This study aims to determine the effect of ergonomic gymnastics on uric acid levels in the elderly. The research uses a quantitative design with a pretest-postest group with control group design. The sample consisted of 30 elderly people who were selected by random sampling. The research instrument is the assessment of uric acid levels carried out before and after the intervention is given.  The research analysis consisted of univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Mann Whitney test with STATA software version 17. The results of the analysis showed that the mean uric acid level was 6.34 ± 0.97, before intervention and the mean decreased to 5.30 ± 0.7, after intervention. There was an effect of ergonomic gymnastics on the reduction of uric acid levels in the elderly with a Mann-Whitney p-value test of 0.0001. Ergonomic gymnastics can be a non-pharmacological treatment option to lower uric acid levels in the elderly. Ergonomic gymnastics can lower uric acid levels with muscle relaxation which can improve the process of reabsorption of uric acid in the urine. The application of ergonomic gymnastics 3 times a week showed a significant difference in uric acid levels in the elderly.

Abstract

Maternal anemia remains a major public health problem, particularly in developing countries, including Indonesia. Conventional iron supplementation often faces adherence issues due to side effects, thus highlighting the need for alternative, food-based interventions utilizing locally available resources. Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is rich in high-quality protein, albumin, and bioavailable iron, while moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) contain plant-based iron, vitamin C, and antioxidants that enhance iron absorption. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of floss products based on snakehead fish and moringa leaves to increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia. A quasi-experimental study was conducted on 40 pregnant women with anemia, divided into one control group (floss products without moringa) and one intervention groups with different moringa additions every week (15 g, 20 g, and 25 g). Each participant consumed 150 g of floss products daily for 3 weeks. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after intervention using standard procedures. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test with a 95% confidence level. The mean hemoglobin level increased from 9.7 g/dL (SD = 0.3) to 10.6 g/dL (SD = 0.5) after the intervention (p < 0.001). The intervention groups achieved significantly higher hemoglobin levels (mean = 12.5 g/dL, SD = 0.9) compared to the control group (mean = 11.2 g/dL, SD = 0.7), with p = 0.002. The combination of snakehead fish and moringa leaves was effective in improving hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with anemia.

Abstract

Angka Kematian Ibu (AKI) mencerminkan situasi kesehatan negara. MDGs menargetkan peningkatan kesehatan ibu.

Abstract

The recent pandemic has increased telemedicine use tremendously, but it has also pronounced access gaps to telemedicine. This study aimed to investigate factors affecting patient use of telehealth during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic. This article was created using a systematic review and meta-analysis study that searched for articles in electronic databases such as Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Observational studies are included in full papers with a publication year until 2022 were searched for this study. The Review Manager 5.3 (RevMan) software was used to analyze the articles in this study. We observed heterogeneity with a random-effect model to analyze the effect size from each primary study, and the results were reported as an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and corresponding 95 percent confidence interval (CI). A total of 9 articles reviewed in the meta-analysis (consisting of 4 articles in each variable) showed that patients whose primary language is non-English (aOR= 0.72; 95% CI= 0.59 to 0.87; p= 0.0008) and have Medicaid insurance English (aOR= 0.86; 95% CI= 0.77 to 0.97; p= 0.02) were less likely to use telemedicine compared to patients who speak English and utilize private insurance. Medication insurance and non-English as a preferred language reduced the likelihood of patients using telemedicine.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a degenerative disease caused by genetic and environmental factors. Therefore, patients with DM type 2 requires regular control. One of the health facilities that allows a fine control and follow up over patients with DM is telemedicine. This study aimed to estimate the average effectiveness of telemedicine on glycemic management (HbA1C) of patients with DM type 2. The current research employed a systematic review with meta-analysis research design. The subjects of the study were articles published in 2005 - 2021. The article search was conducted for a maximum of 1 month over journal databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The primary study employed Randomized Controlled Trial with articles search according to the established PICO model, where P (Population), in this sense, patients suffering from DM type 2, I (Intervention) which was Telemedicine, C (Comparison) or non-telemedicine, and O (Outcome), which was glycemic management (HbA1c). A total of 10 primary studies were assessed with Critical Appraisal Center for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM). The results demonstrated that telemedicine is effective in glycemic management (HbA1c) of DM type-2 patients with a p-value of <0.05, namely p<0.04 and a standardized mean difference (SMD) value of -0.24 (95% CI, -0.34 to -0.15). The results of this meta-analysis provide strong scientific evidence regarding the benefits of telemedicine in lowering HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 DM.
