Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of Human Resource (HR) development on product innovation in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kendari City. The main focus is how improved HR competencies can contribute to innovative product development in the context of local MSMEs. This study used descriptive qualitative analysis involving 30 MSMEs in Kendari. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. This approach allows researchers to gain a broader understanding of the internal dynamics of MSMEs and their influence on product innovation. The results showed that of the MSMEs that invested in HR development, 70% of respondents recognized that training and continuing education are essential investments for improving the quality of employees, which will influence skills development, and tend to result in more significant product innovation. The research also identified several challenges, including limited resources and access to relevant training. Investment in HR development is a key factor in driving product innovation in Kendari MSMEs. However, there needs to be further efforts to overcome existing barriers, including through government support and educational institutions. This study recommends further research with a mixed approach to deepen the understanding of the relationship between HR development and innovation in MSMEs.

Abstract

Transformational leadership has been recognized as an important approach in contemporary management that encourages employee inspiration, motivation, and empowerment to achieve common goals. In the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in Indonesia, the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) concept that includes economic, social, and environmental aspects is becoming increasingly important but still faces many challenges in its implementation. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap about the influence of transformational leadership on the implementation of TBL in MSMEs. The study used a descriptive analytical approach with a survey method to collect data from MSME owners and employees who have implemented TBL principles. The results showed that transformational leadership has a significant positive impact on the implementation of TBL in MSMEs, with factors such as individual and team learning orientation and creative self-efficacy acting as mediators that strengthen the relationship. In addition, HR training and development factors and leader support were found to be key elements that influence the effectiveness of TBL implementation. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of the role of transformational leadership and learning culture in supporting MSME business sustainability, as well as providing practical guidance for MSME leaders to achieve economic, social, and environmental sustainability goals.

Abstract

Transformational leadership has been recognized as a key factor in enhancing organizational effectiveness and driving innovation across industries. In the context of multinational companies, this leadership style becomes even more important given the complexities arising from cultural differences, regulations, and workforce expectations. This study aims to identify these challenges and formulate effective strategies for transformational leaders in managing a diverse workforce in multinational companies. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, where data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five informants from various organizational levels in a multinational company. The results show that transformational leadership contributes to increased employee engagement and productivity, although its implementation faces significant challenges, such as cultural differences and regulations across countries. Therefore, more flexible and technology-based strategies need to be developed to optimize the effectiveness of transformational leadership in a global context. These findings contribute to the development of transformational leadership theory and provide practical guidance for management strategies in multinational companies to manage human resources more adaptively and innovatively.
