Abstract

Locus of Control (LoC) is an individual's perception of the sources that control events in their lives, which are divided into two main categories: internal and external. Individuals with internal LoC tend to have higher performance because they believe that success is influenced by their own efforts and abilities, while individuals with external LoC believe that the results of their actions are more influenced by external factors that are beyond their control, such as fate, luck, situations, or the power of others. This study aims to examine the effect of Locus of Control, responsibility, and job knowledge on organizational commitment with work motivation as an intervening variable at Universitas Batam. The research method used is a causal model survey with path analysis techniques. The study population was 90 employees of Universitas Batam with census techniques. The results showed that Locus of Control had a significant effect on employee performance. These findings provide strategic recommendations for Universitas Batam in increasing organizational commitment through a deeper understanding of internal factors such as work motivation.

Abstract

The local government management system is expected to focus on increasing accountability and, at the same time, improving civil servant performance that is oriented toward outcomes. This research aims to conduct a bibliometric examination of local government civil servant performance. This study analyzed 439 articles published from 2013 until July 2022 in the Scopus database on civil servant performance in government. The VosViewer program was utilized in the process of analyzing to find results on the most contributing authors, the number of citations, areas, organizations, publications, and co-occurrences of keywords. These results could create new gaps in the research that will be conducted in the future. The result shows civil servant performance relies on appraisal and work environment improvement. A conducive environment fosters mutual assistance, open communication, and conflict resolution, ultimately improving employee performance and fostering better relationships. Also, performance analysis is crucial for public administration and the public sector.

Abstract

Female workers in the manufacturing sector in Batam City often face challenges in financial planning, particularly regarding pension funds. Lack of knowledge and information about the importance of pension funds, coupled with limited awareness campaigns, result in many workers not participating in pension programs. Additionally, a work culture focused on short-term targets often leads female workers in this sector to view long-term financial planning, such as retirement, as less important. This study aims to investigate and analyze the partial and simultaneous effects of framing effect, mental accounting, and financial decisions on the effectiveness of pension funds among female workers in manufacturing companies in Batam City. This study employs causal associative research, and the research method used is quantitative. The population in this study consists of all female workers in manufacturing companies in Batam City, whose exact number is unknown. Four manufacturing companies were randomly selected, and 50 respondents were selected from each company. The sampling method used non-probability sampling with purposive sampling techniques, with several criteria including women aged 40-50 years with a minimum of 1 year of work experience and companies employing more than 250 workers. The sample size for this study was 200 respondents. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. The results of the study indicate that the framing effect partially influences the effectiveness of pension funds, mental accounting partially influences the effectiveness of pension funds, financial decisions partially influence the effectiveness of pension funds, and the framing effect, mental accounting, and financial decisions simultaneously influence the effectiveness of pension funds. The adjusted R-squared value of 0.728 can be referred to as the coefficient of determination, This means that 0.741 (74.1%) of the effectiveness of pension funds can be obtained and explained by the framing effect, mental accounting, and financial decisions, while the remaining 25.3% (100% - 74.1% = 25.3%) is explained by variables outside the model that were not studied.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the influence of digital competence and work motivation on individual performance in digitalized organizational settings. Ongoing technological changes require employees to develop not only technical skills but also adaptive capabilities to respond effectively to dynamic work systems. Research Methodology: A quantitative explanatory approach was applied, involving respondents selected based on specific criteria. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using inferential statistical methods to assess the relationships among the variables. Results: The results revealed that digital competence significantly enhanced performance, particularly in improving efficiency and technology-based problem-solving. Work motivation plays a crucial role in strengthening employee engagement and goal attainment. Furthermore, the combined effect of both variables demonstrated a stronger contribution than their individual impacts. Conclusions: This study confirms the stronger role of personal resources in improving employee commitment in digitally transforming public institutions and supports the JD-R perspective regarding resource relevance. Limitations: This study's limitations include its cross-sectional design, potential omission of factors such as leadership style, and reliance on self-reported data, which may introduce bias despite attempts to mitigate it. Contributions: The findings provide empirical evidence for strategic human resource development and extend the JD-R theory in the public sector context.

Abstract

The high turnover rate in Batam's manufacturing industry presents a serious challenge for human resource management, particularly at the production operator level, which forms the operational backbone of factories. This study aims to analyze the effect of work environment on turnover intention with job satisfaction as an intervening variable among manufacturing operators in Batam. The research employs a quantitative approach using a survey technique with a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire. The respondents comprised 100 manufacturing operators in Batam, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4 software. The results show that work environment has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction (β = 0.612; p < 0.001), work environment has a negative and significant effect on turnover intention (β = –0.241; p = 0.012), job satisfaction has a negative and significant effect on turnover intention (β = –0.468; p < 0.001), and job satisfaction partially mediates the effect of work environment on turnover intention (β = –0.286; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that improvements in both physical and non-physical work environments can reduce operators' turnover intention through enhanced job satisfaction.

Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of role conflict and emotional exhaustion on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), with affective commitment as an intervening variable among lecturers at private universities in City of Batam. Research Method: Quantitative research approach was employed using survey method. Data were collected through structured questionnaires measured on Likert scale. The sample consisted of lecturers from private universities in City of Batam, selected using sampling technique aligned with the characteristics of population. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that role conflict has positive and significant effect on OCB, suggesting that role-related pressures in academic environment might encourage lecturers to exhibit extra-role behaviors as form of professional adaptation. In contrast, emotional exhaustion has negative and significant effect on OCB, indicating that depletion of emotional resources reduces lecturers’ willingness to engage in voluntary behaviors beyond their formal duties. Furthermore, emotional exhaustion has negative and significant effect on affective commitment,   Results and Discussion: The role conflict does not significantly influence affective commitment. Affective commitment is found to have positive and significant effect on OCB and serves as significant mediating variable in relationship between emotional exhaustion and OCB. However, affective commitment does not mediate relationship between role conflict and OCB. Implications: These findings contribute to development of organizational behavior literature, particularly in higher education context and provide practical implications for university management in formulating human resource policies aimed at strengthening lecturers’ affective commitment and managing emotional exhaustion to enhance OCB. Originality: This study extends the OCB literature by simultaneously examining role conflict and emotional exhaustion through the mediating role of affective commitment in the context of private higher education institutions in Indonesia, a setting that remains underexplored in prior research.
