Abstract

Self-esteem is an important aspect of adolescent mental health and can be influenced by various factors related to social media use. Through a literature review and interviews, data were collected and then analyzed using the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) approach to build a structural model depicting the interactions among these factors. The literature review identified nine key factors: Feelings of Loneliness, Types of Social Media Interactions, Content Consumed, Social Support from Social Media, Social Comparison, Cyberbullying, Control over Social Media Use, Parental Involvement, Intensity of Social Media Use, and Identity Development. The ISM model revealed that the factor of feelings of loneliness (F1) is at the fourth or most fundamental level in the hierarchy of factors, while the intensity of social media use (F9) is at the highest level. Therefore, the role of parental involvement (F8) is a crucial foundation to address feelings of loneliness (F1), because if adolescents feel lonely, they may turn to social media as an escape, which can negatively impact self-esteem if not properly controlled. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of effective intervention strategies to enhance adolescent self-esteem.

Abstract

School bullies often display repeated aggressive behavior with the aim of dominating or hurting their peers. The motives behind their actions can vary, ranging from a desire to demonstrate power, seek attention, or even resolve unresolved personal issues. The aim of this research is to determine the causes of the formation of self-concept in students who are bullies, as well as identifying internal and external factors that influence the formation of this self-concept. The research method used is qualitative, with a case study type. The data collection method is through interviews, observation and documentation. The interviews used were in-depth interviews, while the observations were non-participant, then documentation in the form of data from the Kuningan Police and UPTD PPA DPPKBP3A Service. Data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. Validity of data with transferability test, dependability test and confirmability test. The subjects used were 2 students, the first one was at the Head of the Kuningan Police PPA Unit, and the other was at the UPTD PPA DPPKBP3A Service. The results of this research are that Subject FZ has a negative self-portrait because what FZ is proud of is influencing other people easily, so it would be very dangerous if anything he said that made other people's emotions rise. Meanwhile, the portrait of SL's self-concept is also quite negative, with the description of SL's character who easily believes other people's words, and SL's emotions have always been less able to be conditioned, meaning that in solving problems SL is used to using action rather than discussing first

Abstract

Abstract

Academic stress and academic burnout have become critical issues in secondary education, with significant implications for students’ psychological well-being and educational engagement. Although scholarly attention to these topics has increased, systematic syntheses focusing specifically on secondary school contexts remain limited. This study aims to systematically review empirical evidence on academic stress and academic burnout among secondary school students. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 framework. Articles were identified through Google Scholar using the keywords academic stress, academic burnout, secondary school, and high school. Peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2010 and 2025 were included, resulting in 12 studies that met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that academic stress is primarily driven by excessive academic workload, high-stakes assessment practices, competitive school climates, and strong expectations from teachers and parents. Prolonged exposure to these stressors often leads to academic burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism toward school, and reduced academic efficacy. Academic stress and burnout are also associated with adverse psychological and educational outcomes, including anxiety, reduced well-being, lower engagement, and increased risk of school disengagement. This review highlights the importance of integrated, school-based approaches to support student well-being and sustainable engagement.

Abstract

As the foundation for lifelong learning, independent learning is an important psychological skill that must be developed from elementary school. The internal component of self-efficacy is crucial for enhancing independent learning. The purpose of this study was to investigate how self-efficacy influences elementary school students' ability to learn independently. A total of 87 fifth-grade students selected from the overall sample were included in a quantitative correlational design. Validated measures of independent learning and self-efficacy were used to collect data. Independent learning and self-efficacy were found to be significantly positively correlated based on Pearson correlation analysis (r = 0.523, p < 0.01). Simple linear regression analysis showed that self-efficacy explained 27.4% of the variation in independent learning (R2 = 0.274). These findings indicate that students with higher self-efficacy tend to demonstrate greater ability to manage and regulate their learning independently. The study highlights the importance of strengthening self-efficacy as a psychological foundation for promoting learning independence from an early educational stage

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (Pondok pesantren) as traditional Islamic educational institutions have an important role in shaping the character of students through the application of strict discipline, which is believed to affect learning behavior and independence. This study aims to determine the influence of Islamic boarding school discipline on the learning behavior and independence of students of Al-Itqon Bugen Islamic Boarding School Semarang. The study used an associative quantitative approach with an instrument in the form of a closed questionnaire that included three main variables: discipline, learning behavior, and independence. The research sample consisted of 58 Aliyah grade 2 students who were selected through random sampling techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively, followed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Spearman Rank correlation, and binary logistic regression. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between discipline and learning behavior (r = 0.688; p < 0.001) and independence (r = 0.590; p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that students with high discipline had a 12.35 times greater chance of showing high learning behavior and 4.63 times greater to show high independence than students with low discipline. Thus, the discipline applied in the Islamic boarding school environment has proven to be a key factor that supports the development of students' independence and learning behavior significantly.

Abstract

Character education at the junior high school level is a crucial foundation for students’ moral, emotional, and social development. During early adolescence, students experience significant psychological changes that require educational approaches emphasizing human values and personal meaning. This study aims to examine the integration of educational philosophy and humanistic psychology as a conceptual framework for strengthening students’ character formation. This research employed a qualitative literature review method by analyzing books and peer-reviewed journal articles related to educational philosophy, humanistic psychology, and character education published within the last decade. The results indicate that the integration of educational philosophy and humanistic psychology supports character development through meaningful learning experiences, democratic teacher–student relationships, and the cultivation of values such as responsibility, autonomy, empathy, and respect. This integrative framework is important for establishing holistic education that balances academic achievement and character maturity.
