Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (Pondok pesantren) as traditional Islamic educational institutions have an important role in shaping the character of students through the application of strict discipline, which is believed to affect learning behavior and independence. This study aims to determine the influence of Islamic boarding school discipline on the learning behavior and independence of students of Al-Itqon Bugen Islamic Boarding School Semarang. The study used an associative quantitative approach with an instrument in the form of a closed questionnaire that included three main variables: discipline, learning behavior, and independence. The research sample consisted of 58 Aliyah grade 2 students who were selected through random sampling techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively, followed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Spearman Rank correlation, and binary logistic regression. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between discipline and learning behavior (r = 0.688; p < 0.001) and independence (r = 0.590; p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that students with high discipline had a 12.35 times greater chance of showing high learning behavior and 4.63 times greater to show high independence than students with low discipline. Thus, the discipline applied in the Islamic boarding school environment has proven to be a key factor that supports the development of students' independence and learning behavior significantly.

Abstract

Character education at the junior high school level is a crucial foundation for students’ moral, emotional, and social development. During early adolescence, students experience significant psychological changes that require educational approaches emphasizing human values and personal meaning. This study aims to examine the integration of educational philosophy and humanistic psychology as a conceptual framework for strengthening students’ character formation. This research employed a qualitative literature review method by analyzing books and peer-reviewed journal articles related to educational philosophy, humanistic psychology, and character education published within the last decade. The results indicate that the integration of educational philosophy and humanistic psychology supports character development through meaningful learning experiences, democratic teacher–student relationships, and the cultivation of values such as responsibility, autonomy, empathy, and respect. This integrative framework is important for establishing holistic education that balances academic achievement and character maturity.

Abstract

Research on lecturers' academic integrity is still relatively limited, especially those that simultaneously examine organizational and individual factors in a single structural model. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing lecturers' academic integrity in Indonesia by placing organizational commitment as a mediating variable. The study used a quantitative approach with the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method on 63 lecturers in Indonesia. The results showed that ethical leadership significantly influenced organizational commitment (β = 0.311; p < 0.01). Workload negatively influenced lecturers' academic integrity (β = −0.183; p < 0.05). Meanwhile, ethical competence (β = 0.263; p < 0.05), incentives (β = 0.215; p < 0.05), and academic sanctions (β = 0.222; p < 0.05) had a significant positive effect on academic integrity. In contrast, organizational culture did not show a significant effect on academic integrity (β = −0.147; p > 0.05). In addition, organizational commitment had a strong influence on lecturers' academic integrity (β = 0.391; p < 0.01) and was proven to mediate the relationship between ethical leadership and academic integrity (indirect β = 0.122; p < 0.05). The R² value of 0.709 indicates that 70.9% of the variation in academic integrity can be explained by the research model. This research contributes to the development of academic integrity studies by integrating leadership, organizational, and individual factors in one PLS-SEM-based empirical model. Abstract

General Background: Human Resource Management (HRM) is a critical determinant of organizational success, particularly in labor-intensive industries where employee productivity directly shapes performance outcomes. Specific Background: Within construction service organizations, HRM practices such as planning, recruitment, evaluation, and motivation are systematically implemented to sustain operational efficiency and workforce performance. Knowledge Gap: Despite the recognized importance of HRM, practical challenges such as managerial inefficiencies and nepotism within family-based organizational structures may hinder optimal productivity outcomes. Aims: This study aims to examine the role of HRM in supporting work productivity while identifying facilitating and inhibiting factors within the organizational setting. Results: The findings indicate that structured HRM functions—including strategic recruitment, multi-level performance evaluation (daily, monthly, quarterly), incentive and punishment systems, flexible work arrangements, and supportive work environments—contribute to sustained productivity. However, nepotism emerges as a key structural constraint affecting objectivity and employee morale. Novelty: This study provides an integrated qualitative perspective linking managerial functions, workplace conditions, and organizational culture to productivity within a construction industry context. Implications: Strengthening merit-based policies and professional HRM practices is essential to ensure sustainable productivity, organizational resilience, and long-term competitiveness in construction service firms. Highlights: Structured managerial processes enable consistent workforce monitoring and task execution. Compensation mechanisms and working conditions shape discipline and output stability. Informal power structures reduce fairness and weaken workforce morale. Keywords: Role, Human Resource Management, Work Productivity.
