Abstract

Feed supplements for aquaculture activities are materials that currently widely used. There are many feed supplements using herbal ingredients, because it is considered more safety for fish. It is based on prohibition of antibiotics usage, because it can create resistance in microorganisms and has a negative impact on environment. Turmeric is a spice that widely used as a feed supplement. Most turmeric is used for cooking ingredient, but it is also widely used in traditional medicine. Several active compounds in turmeric such as curcumin and turmerone have been studied. These active compound have been proven could increase antioxidant and prevent lipid peroxidation, so it can increase the fish growth. Apart from that, this active compound is also useful in inhibiting bacterial growth by damaging membrane and preventing the formation of biofilms.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the fucoidan content extracted from Sargassum sp. collected from Sundak Beach, Gunung Kidul. Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide compound with various biological activities, including anticoagulant, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities. Sargassum sp. was chosen as the source of fucoidan due to its abundance in coastal waters and its pharmacological potential. The extraction method was carried out using a hot water extraction technique with acid treatment, followed by a purification process using dialysis. The extracted fucoidan content was then analyzed using spectrophotometry and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to determine its concentration and purity. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to identify the functional groups of the compound. The results showed that fucoidan was successfully extracted from Sargassum sp. with a significant yield. The main component of the extracted fucoidan from Sargassum sp. in this study was fucose, as indicated by the TLC results. The Rf value of the fucoidan hydrolysate from Sargassum sp. and the standard fucoidan, which was 0.51, matched that of fucose, indicating that both samples contained fucose. This study concludes that Sargassum sp. from Sundak Beach, Gunung Kidul, is a potential source for high-quality fucoidan production.

Abstract

The target output of white snapper (Lates calcarifer) in 2019–2024 is 10,000–14,000 tons, making it a fish type with bright prospects and economic worth for human consumption. Having access to high-quality feed is a primary aspect in promoting fish growth. Fish will grow more when intake they are give them something they can eat well enough. This will allow the fish to use the energy they get from the feed, which calls for the use of probiotics as a supplement. Probiotics are additional food (supplements) derived from living microorganisms that balance the intestinal microbial flora in the digestive tract to provide benefits to the fish that consume them. The type of probiotic commonly used is EM4 (effective microorganism 4). This study aimed to examine the effects of commercial feed supplemented with EM4 probiotics on the growth, feed efficiency, feed conversion ratio, and survival of white snapper (Lates calcarifer). The fish used in the study were white snapper with a size of 8-11 cm and a seed weight of 5±3 g which were maintained for 60 days. Feeding was done by ad satiation. Five treatments and three replications were included in the fully randomized design of this investigation. The statistics that were noted included survival, absolute weight growth, absolute length growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency (EPP), and amount of feed consumed. The effects of the EM4 probiotic dose on absolute weight and length growth were demonstrated by the results. feed efficiency, and FCR in white snapper (Lates calcarifer) gave a significantly different effect, while the amount of feed consumption and survival gave an effect that was not significantly different.

Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the freshwater commodities that is most in demand by local and foreign commonities. The increasing price of fish feed has resulted in decreasing income for farmers. One of the feeds that has a high protein content is maggot. One of the procesing technologies to reduce fat content in maggots is by using fermentation technology. Thus, the purpose of this study is to ascertain the impact of fermented maggot flour on the growth of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The experimental design used in this study was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with six treatments and three replications, resulting in the production of 18 experimental units: P0 (commercial feed 100), P1 (commercial feed 25% + 75% non-fermented maggot flour), P2 (commercial feed 25% + 75% fermented maggot flour), P3 (commercial feed 75% + 25% non-fermented maggot flour), P4 (commercial feed 75% + fermented maggot flour), and P5 (100% fermented maggot). The addition of maggot flour and maggot fermented flour with different doses, the best treatmens was obtained in P2 (commercial feed 25% + 75% fermented maggot flour). Treatment  P2 could increase the absolute weight growth rate, SGR,EPP, and produced the lowest FCR. However, the addition of maggot flour and maggot fermentation was not significant on absolute lenght growth, feed consumtion level, SR. Thus, the optimal concentration of maggot flour and maggot fermentation in this study was 75% maggot fermentation flour + 25% commercial feed.

Abstract

Waste is the result of discarded unused materials which generally come from human activities. The rapid development in the tourism sector, especially at Elak-elak Beach, Sekotong, West Nusa Tenggara, has made the waste problem quite crucial. The aim of this beach clean movement activity is a form of community service to reduce the amount of rubbish on Elak-elak beach, so that it can preserve the environment and increase its attraction for tourists. The method used begins with location observations followed by the implementation of beach clean-up activities. The total number of participants who participated in this activity was 116 people. This activity succeeded in collecting various kinds of waste, ranging from organic and inorganic waste, where organic waste consisted of leaves and tree twigs. Meanwhile, inorganic waste is dominated by plastic waste such as cans, mineral water bottles, straws, plastic food wrap and styrofoam. A survey was also conducted on several tourist visitors regarding waste, where basically the visitors had a good understanding of waste. The beach clean movement activity ends with collecting the resulting rubbish which will then be transported to the landfill. The beach clean movement is a form of concern for environmental management. It is hoped that the activity can help raise awareness and raise people's sense of concern for the cleanliness and sustainability of the environment, especially beaches. Further service activities can be carried out by providing assistance and training to coastal communities.

Abstract

Spiny lobsters (Panulirus homarus) are a high-value fishery commodity with strong demand in both local and international markets. Ujung Betok, located on the coast of East Lombok, is a center for spiny lobster aquaculture using floating net cages (FNC). Despite growing production, a common issue observed during transport is the decline in lobster quality, and in some cases, mortality, which significantly reduces market value. To address this problem, technical training was conducted focusing on post-harvest handling and transportation techniques aimed at preserving lobster quality up to the point of delivery. The activity was carried out through field surveys, educational sessions, and hands-on practical demonstrations at the FNC sites in Ujung Betok. Effective post-harvest handling is indicated by the lobster's ability to survive transport in healthy, undamaged condition, maintaining freshness equivalent to that at harvest. The post-harvest procedure includes sorting, holding, cold stunning, packaging, and transportation. Drier packaging methods have shown to significantly extend survival during transit. The fundamental principle of spiny lobster handling and packaging is to maintain product quality while minimizing physical injury and stress, both of which can lead to mortality.
