Abstract

The increasing rate of divorce in rural areas indicates serious challenges in maintaining family resilience as well as the limited effectiveness of formal litigation-based dispute resolution. Judicial processes that tend to be procedural, time-consuming, and focused on legal termination often fail to address the substantive justice needs of the disputing parties. Consequently, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that are more responsive to local social and cultural values are required. This study aims to examine the effectiveness and implementation of divorce mediation facilitated by the Village Government of Banra’as, Sumenep Regency, through the perspective of Progressive Legal Theory. This research employs a qualitative approach with an empirical research design. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with village officials, community leaders, and individuals who had previously participated in the mediation process, as well as documentation related to divorce dispute resolution practices at the village level. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method, focusing on mediation practices as a manifestation of living law within the community. The findings reveal that divorce mediation facilitated by the village government demonstrates a relatively high level of effectiveness in reducing divorce cases. This effectiveness is influenced by a familial approach, the utilization of local wisdom, and the strong internalization of religious values within the social life of the Banra’as community. From the perspective of Progressive Legal Theory, this mediation practice reflects a flexible and non-positivistic understanding of law that prioritizes humanity and substantive justice. Village-based mediation not only serves as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism but also functions as a social instrument to preserve family harmony and strengthen social resilience in rural communities.

Abstract

This research explores the lived experience of teachers implementing Islamic leadership values in educational institutions through an interpretative phenomenological analysis approach. Involving one teacher participant from an Islamic secondary school undergoing management reform, this study identifies significant gaps between ideal Islamic leadership and practical implementation. Three major themes emerged: an Islamic value-practice gap, in which Islamic principles were formally invoked in institutional discourse yet incompletely operationalized in relational and decision-making structures; a capacity-readiness deficit, in which structural reform was introduced ahead of human resource preparation, producing implementation failure that was rational rather than attitudinal in character; and professional development formalism, in which institutional learning programs were experienced as certification-oriented compliance exercises rather than substantive supports for teacher professional identity. Together, these themes converge on a central finding: theological commitment at the leadership level does not, by itself, produce Islamic value enactment at the organizational level. The study contributes theoretical insights for contextualizing Islamic leadership in modern educational organizations and provides practical recommendations for improving institutional management through participatory governance mechanisms, sequenced capacity building, and professionally relevant learning programs.

Abstract

Polystyrene (PS) microplastics from styrofoam waste are persistent contaminants that are difficult to degrade naturally in aquatic environments and require effective extraction methods for analysis and mitigation. This study aims to determine the optimal conditions of Fe(II) concentration and heating temperature in the Wet Peroxide Oxidation (WPO) method for extracting PS microplastics, as well as to identify their functional groups and elemental composition. The method involved treating polluted water samples using WPO solution consisting of Fe(II) as a catalyst and 30% H₂O₂ as an oxidizing agent, with Fe(II) concentrations of 0.075 M, 0.1 M, and 0.125 M, and heating temperatures of 60°C, 75°C, and 90°C. Microplastic identification was conducted using FTIR and XRF instruments. The results showed that the optimal Fe(II) concentration was 0.125 M, yielding 1.27 grams of microplastics, while the optimal temperature was 60°C, yielding 2.58 grams of microplastics. FTIR characterization confirmed the presence of characteristic PS functional groups, including C-H bending of the benzene ring at 753.22 cm⁻¹ and aliphatic C-H stretching at 2919.27 cm⁻¹, which were also detected in samples from enclosed environments. XRF analysis under optimal conditions indicated that the elemental composition of the extracted microplastics was not entirely pure due to residual contaminants. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the WPO method for extracting PS microplastics under optimized operational conditions.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the formulation of organic masks using locally sourced natural ingredients such as coffee grounds, rice flour, and turmeric, which hold potential for producing cosmetic preparations with high bioactive efficacy and safety. The objective of this research is to analyze the effect of turmeric addition on the chemical characteristics of organic facial masks made from coffee grounds and rice flour, with a focus on pH level, moisture content, antioxidant activity, and flavonoid content. A quantitative approach was employed through laboratory experiments involving two formulations (with and without turmeric), each tested in triplicate. pH was measured using a digital pH meter; moisture content was determined by the gravimetric method; antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH method with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer; and flavonoid content was evaluated qualitatively. The results show that the formulation containing turmeric had a more neutral pH (7.3), lower moisture content (3.11%), higher antioxidant activity (47.50%), and tested positive for flavonoid content. In contrast, the formulation without turmeric had higher moisture content (3.68%) and did not contain flavonoids. The addition of turmeric also influenced drying time, though it remained within an optimal range. The study concludes that turmeric addition significantly enhances the chemical quality and biofunctional activity of the mask, representing an innovative approach to developing herbal cosmetics based on local ingredients.

Abstract

The rapid development of industry, driven by advances in technology and science, has brought economic benefits but also generated waste with the potential to pollute the environment, particularly aquatic systems. One contaminant of concern is the Pb²⁺ metal ion, known for its toxicity. This study aims to utilize tanah napa from Balai Selasa, Ranah Pesisir, Pesisir Selatan Regency as an adsorbent for Pb²⁺ ions in wastewater. Tanah napa was selected due to its high silica and alumina content, porous structure, and the presence of active groups such as silanol (Si–OH), silica (Si–O), and siloxane (Si–O–Si). Characterization of the material was conducted using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Adsorption tests were performed continuously using the column method with variations in concentration and pH. The reduction of Pb²⁺ levels was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS). Results indicated that optimal conditions occurred at a concentration of 250 ppm and pH 4. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm model with a correlation coefficient of R² = 0.9862 and a maximum adsorption capacity of 3.3467 mg/g. The study concludes that tanah napa has significant potential as a cost-effective and efficient adsorbent for Pb²⁺ ions, offering an alternative solution for industrial wastewater treatment at both laboratory and field application scales.

Abstract

Exposure to chromium(III) ions in liquid waste can have adverse impacts on human health and the environment, thereby necessitating treatment methods that are effective, economical, and environmentally friendly. Various natural materials have been investigated as heavy metal adsorbents; however, studies that specifically evaluate tanah napa from Pesisir Selatan Regency as an adsorbent for Cr³⁺ in a column (continuous) system remain limited. This study aimed to determine the material characteristics and the optimum conditions for Cr³⁺ ion adsorption using activated tanah napa. The research employed an adsorption method in a continuous system, in which the adsorbent with a particle size of 200 mesh (70 µm) was prepared through calcination at 750°C and activation using 1 M KOH. Material characterization was carried out using X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, while Cr³⁺ ion concentrations were analyzed using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the activation process increased the SiO₂ content to 65.781% and enhanced the presence of silanol and siloxane groups that play a role in the adsorption mechanism. The optimum conditions for Cr³⁺ adsorption were achieved at pH 4 with a capacity of 1.0686 mg/g, an initial concentration of 200 mg/L with a capacity of 0.3343 mg/g, and a flow rate of 20 drops/min with a capacity of 1.8464 mg/g. The decrease in adsorption capacity at higher pH values was associated with the formation of chromium hydroxide precipitates, whereas the increase in flow rate reduced the contact time between adsorbate and active sites on the adsorbent. These findings indicate that activated tanah napa has promising potential to be developed as a low-cost alternative adsorbent for heavy metal waste treatment in continuous systems.
