Abstract

Malnutrition is a nutritional imbalance in the body. This imbalance is caused by nutritional intake that does not match a person's nutritional needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the decrease in the incidence of double nutritional burden in students of SDN 1 Benteng, Baranti District, Sidrap Regency. This research method is a quantitative study with a case control approach. The results of the study showed that children who often consume excess nutritional events are almost the same as children with normal nutritional status, meaning there is no relationship between the frequency of consumption and the incidence of excess nutrition in children. The conclusion is that malnutrition does not only occur when a toddler is born, but because the toddler's mother already has a history of malnutrition as a result of the low nutritional intake consumed by the toddler's mother. Mothers with low energy intake are called Mothers with Chronic Energy Deficiency.

Abstract

Abstract: Pneumonia is one of the deadliest infectious diseases and the leading cause of death in children worldwide. Paal V Health Center is one of the health centers with the highest pneumonia cases in Jambi City. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship of nutritional aspects and disease history to the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers. The research design used in this study was cross sectional. The study was conducted at the Paal V Health Center in January 2024. The population consisted of 87 toddlers (aged 0-59 months) who experienced severe pneumonia and mild pneumonia at Puskesmas Paal V. The sample size was 87 respondents. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately. The results showed a relationship between nutritional status (p value: 0.000) and history of ARI (p value: 0.003) to the level of pneumonia in toddlers. It is recommended that mothers of toddlers be more active and careful in seeking information about the right food and of course can meet the nutritional status of toddlers without waiting for counseling from health workers about good nutritional status. In addition, mothers are expected to pay attention to food intake for toddlers, so that the nutritional status of toddlers becomes good and can prevent the occurrence of infectious diseases in toddlers, especially pneumonia. Keywords: Toddlers, Nutrition, Medical History.

The purpose of the Community Service program is to conduct random blood sugar, uric acid and cholesterol level checks. The methods used in Community Service activities are socialization and health education and examination of glucose, uric acid and cholesterol levels in the implementation of community health identification. The results of the implementation of the uric acid, blood sugar and cholesterol level checks carried out in the community went well and understood the importance of regular and regular blood pressure and uric acid checks. The conclusion is that the Community Service program was successful and successfully implemented and was able to increase public understanding of the importance of early detection. Abstract

Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a major risk factor contributing to stunting in children. A local food-based supplementary feeding (PMT) program has been implemented in several stunting-prone areas as a promotive-preventive strategy to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of the local food-based PMT program in reducing the prevalence of CED among pregnant women in stunting-prone areas. Methods: This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental pre-post test design without a control group. Subjects were 60 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters in the intervention area. Data were collected through measurements of mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), body mass index (BMI), and nutritional intake questionnaires over a 3-month period. Results: There was a significant increase in mean MUAC from 22.8 cm to 24.1 cm (p<0.05), as well as an increase in daily energy and protein intake based on a 24-hour food recall. A total of 68.3% of respondents who were initially at risk of CED experienced improvements in nutritional status after the program was implemented. Conclusion: The local food-based PMT program is effective in reducing the risk of chronic energy deficiency syndrome (CED) and improving the nutritional status of pregnant women. Recommendations include integrating PMT into routine integrated health post (Posyandu) policies and sustainable use of local food resources.

Abstract

Background: Many elementary school children in Indonesia still do not meet balanced nutrition guidelines, as evidenced by low fruit and vegetables consumption and high consumption of fast food. This can impact their nutritional status and long-term health. Objective: To determine the effect of a balanced nutrition health promotion program on changes in elementary school children's eating patterns. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design was conducted on 80 fourth-fifth grade elementary school students in Regency X. The sample was divided into an intervention group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). The intervention consisted of health promotion through interactive lectures, posters, and educational games for four weeks. Data were collected using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Data were analyzed using paired t- tests and independent t-tests. Results: There was a significant increase in healthy eating patterns in the intervention group after health promotion (p<0.05), particularly in vegetables and fruit consumption and a decrease in fast food consumption. There was no significant change in the control group (p>0.05). Conclusion: The balanced nutrition health promotion program has been positive impact on the eating habits of elementary school children. It is recommended that schools integrate nutrition promotion into the curriculum and extracurricular activities for sustainability.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a public health problem in Indonesia. Data from the 2024 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) shows that the prevalence of stunting decreased from 21.5% (2023) to 19.8% (2024), but the number of stunted children under five remains around 4.48 million. Maternal parenting patterns, including feeding, stimulation, and health care, play a crucial role in preventing stunting. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal parenting patterns and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months. Methods: The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was mothers of toddlers aged 24–59 months. The sample was selected using proportional random sampling with a total of 30 respondents (adjusted to the research results). The instruments used were a parenting questionnaire and measurement of toddler nutritional status using the TB/U index (height for age) based on WHO standards. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% significance level (p < 0.05). Results: The study showed that most mothers with good parenting practices had toddlers with normal nutritional status, while mothers with poor parenting practices were more likely to have toddlers with stunting. Statistical tests showed a significant relationship between maternal parenting practices and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Maternal parenting practices are associated with the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months. Interventions based on parenting education, increasing maternal knowledge, and strengthening the roles of families and health workers are essential to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia.
