Abstract

The siwalan dawet ice is a form of local wisdom that contains rich physics concepts and has potential applications in physics learning. To date, there has been no study that explicitly explores the physics concepts embedded in this local wisdom. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze the physics concepts involved in the process of making the siwalan dawet ice. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method through an analytical approach. Data were collected using three techniques: literature review, observation, and interviews, and were subsequently triangulated to enhance the validity of the findings. Qualitative data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that the process of making the siwalan dawet ice involves several physics concepts, including hydrostatic pressure, Pascal’s Law, Archimedes’ Law, density, and temperature and heat. These findings indicate that the siwalan dawet ice has strong potential to be integrated into physics learning within the Merdeka Curriculum as a local wisdom–based learning resource that supports contextual and meaningful learning. This study implies that incorporating local cultural practices into physics instruction can provide concrete learning experiences, enhance student engagement, and serve as an alternative approach to facilitating students’ understanding of abstract physics concepts. Further research is recommended to examine the effectiveness of this learning resource in improving students’ motivation and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Academic heterogeneity among prospective elementary school teachers (PGSD/MI) often precipitates cognitive gaps in physics learning. A critical deficiency regarding Problem Solving Skills (PSS) is the students' inability to transform visual representations of problems into mathematical formulations, despite comprehending the narrative context. This study evaluates the effectiveness of integrating Reflective Journals and Collaborative Sharing to enhance PSS based on Docktor’s five indicators (Useful Description, Physics Approach, Specific Application, Mathematical Procedures, and Logical Progression) in the topic of motion dynamics. Involving 18 students from diverse academic backgrounds (natural sciences, social sciences, religious studies, and vocational schools), the intervention utilized independent logic scaffolding and peer procedural validation. Test results indicated a significant improvement, with average scores rising from 1.39 (Very Low) to 3.65 (Good). Specific findings revealed that reflective journals effectively restructured physics logic, while collaborative sharing corrected calculation inaccuracies—a persistent weakness among students from non-science backgrounds. Demonstrating the strategy's efficacy in bridging competency gaps, this study recommends developing a systematic learning model that integrates these two strategies to optimize and sustain students' PSS.

Abstract

One of the local wisdom that can be used for physics learning-media is Ogoh-Ogoh. Previous research, exploration of the value of Physics is limited to others local wisdom. Thus, the authors realized the need for further identification of ogoh-ogoh as the local culture of Hindus who are in Surabaya as a research topic, which aims to develop the learning-media of physics integrated local-wisdom in schools or people and analyze ethnoscience conception on Ogoh-Ogoh. This research is included the type of qualitative research using triangulation: interviews, indirect observations and literacy studies. Based on the results of analysis and discussion related to the concept of Physics in ogoh-ogoh culture, it can be known there is an application of physics concepts that are not realized by the perpetrators of Ogoh-Ogoh. Thus, a local wisdom Ogoh-Ogoh can be used as a medium of learning, especially in the field of Physics, one of which is to increase their science-Physics (Ethno-Physics) knowledge into more real scientific knowledge.
