Abstract

Mathematics education in the 21st century, a field increasingly shaped by rapid technological advancement and global demands for critical thinking, necessitates the use of contextual, technology-enhanced learning media that promote higher-order thinking skills, particularly in the area of problem solving. Addressing this need, the present study focused on developing a STEM-based digital worksheet, a technology-integrated instructional tool aimed at enhancing students’ mathematical problem-solving skills within the topic of the Pythagorean Theorem. Adopting a Research and Development (R&D) framework, specifically the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), the study involved a series of methodical phases designed to ensure both pedagogical soundness and technological relevance. Data collection involved conducting interviews and observations, analyzing relevant documents, validating content through expert review, and administering both practicality questionnaires and performance-based assessments grounded in Polya’s problem-solving rubric. Validation by three subject-matter experts, serving as evaluators of content quality and instructional alignment, resulted in an average score of 83.68%, denoting high validity. Practicality, assessed through one-on-one and small-group trials, achieved a mean score of 82.33%, reflecting strong user acceptance and ease of implementation. A field test with 30 students revealed an average problem-solving score of 75%, with notable strengths in identifying and understanding the problem, and relative weaknesses in the final stage of reviewing solutions. These findings, while preliminary, suggest that developing and implementing STEM-based digital worksheets can serve as a promising approach to fostering mathematical problem solving by embedding learning in contextual, interactive, and technologically enriched environments.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an Android-based learning media to enhance junior high school students' mathematical literacy, particularly in understanding numbers. It employs a development research approach with a qualitative methodology supported by quantitative data. The research follows the Research and Development (R&D) method, adapted from the Plomp model. The innovation involves the creation of a game-based learning media using an Android platform. The game itself is a web-based application developed through Wordwall. The study's subjects consist of 26 seventh-grade students, selected from MTs GUPPI Sukamoro in Banyuasin Regency and Srijaya Negara Junior High School in Palembang City.  The data collection techniques used in this study included: (1) a validation sheet to assess the validity of the game product,  (2) a student response questionnaire consisting of 11 questions to assess the practicality of the game, (3) pretest and posttest to assess students' mathematical literacy, and (4) interviews conducted if issues arose after the game and test were administered. Data analysis was carried out using quantitative methods. The validity and practicality levels of the data are analyzed using percentages, while the test data is evaluated based on the N-gain value.  The results indicated that the Android-based game achieved a validity score of 77.54%, categorized as good. The data test results were 0.65 and 0.58, falling within the moderate criteria. Additionally, the classical average scores were 96.1% and 100%, with students achieving an average score of 84.69 and 83.88. These findings demonstrate that the Android-based learning media is both valid and effective in enhancing mathematical literacy on number concepts among seventh-grade students.

Abstract

One of the mathematical values is the value of rationalism. This study aims to describe the value of rationalism of junior high school students using digital media worksheets in the context of agrotourism on the surface area of cylinders with research subjects of 3 grade IX students. Data collection was carried out using tests and interviews. The results of this study are that learning using digital technology-based learning media worksheets with geometry content in the context of agrotourism can bring up the value of rationalism. Students can bring up indicators of representing real objects into mathematical objects and writing information that is in accordance with the elements of the cylinder, investigating the appropriate nets in the problem object and writing down the reasons for each step of the solution. The most frequent indicators are representing real objects into mathematical objects, writing down the reasons for each step of the solution and making conclusions. The dominant difficulty is that students make mistakes in drawing conclusions due to errors in investigation activities and understanding mathematical concepts regarding the surface area of spatial shapes.

Abstract

One of the mathematical abilities that schools are expected to develop is students’ mathematical thinking ability. However, many students still struggle in this area due to the use of learning methods that are not aligned with students’ characteristics and learning environments. These methods often lack opportunities for student interaction and fail to accommodate individual learning levels, resulting in limited engagement and development of higher-order thinking. This condition indicates the need for innovative learning approaches that promote active involvement, interaction, and reasoning. Inquiry-based learning, supported by digital worksheets, is one such approach that can help improve students’ mathematical thinking. This research aims to develop valid and practical inquiry-based digital worksheets on the topic of cubes and beams for grade 8 students and to examine their potential to enhance students’ mathematical thinking ability. The study consists of two stages: the preliminary stage, which involves the development of the worksheet concept and design, and the prototyping stage, which includes self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field testing. Validity data obtained from expert reviews show an average score of 87%, categorized as very valid, while practicality data yield an average score of 79%, categorized as practical. The students’ work on the tasks indicates a high level of mathematical thinking, with 79.3% of students categorized as very good, 10.3% as good, 3.4% as sufficient, and 6.9% as less. Interview results based on mathematical thinking indicators show that the most frequently demonstrated indicator is specialization, while conjecture appears the least. These findings suggest that inquiry-based digital worksheets have the potential to support the development of students’ mathematical thinking.

Abstract

Straight line equations are one of the mathematical materials that are often difficult to understand. This difficulty is due to a teaching approach that often emphasizes memorizing formulas without a deep understanding, as well as a lack of reasoning and problem-solving exercises. This study aims to design a learning trajectory of straight line equations using the Rigorous Mathematical Thinking (RMT) approach and its effectiveness on students' relational understanding. The research method used is design research, which focuses on designing a learning trajectory and consists of three stages: preliminary analysis, experiment, and retrospective which are carried out in two cycles. The subjects of this study were 8th grade students of Palembang State Junior High School, with 32 students as participants in the pilot experiment and 36 students as participants in the teaching experiment, which were selected by purposive sampling. Data is collected through observation, written tests, and interviews. The data from the HLT design will be analyzed qualitatively and  the results of the pre-test and post-test will be analyzed quantitatively. The results of this study produce a learning trajectory consisting of two main activities i.e Solving problems related to line equations that go through two points, and perpendicular line equations. The learning trajectory developed is able to support students' relational understanding, where in the learning process, students are directed to utilize the various knowledge they have, determine the most effective and efficient strategies, provide detailed solutions, and believe in the truth of the answers they use in solving problems. In addition, pre and post test results, there is an increase in relational understanding, it can be concluded that the RMT-based learning trajectory is effective for improving students' relational understanding of students in learning straight line equation material.Persamaan garis lurus merupakan salah satu materi matematika yang sering kali sulit dipahami.
