Abstract

The level of critical thinking skills among students in science education is still relatively low because the learning models used have not been able to optimize their thinking processes, which are still teacher-centered and lack meaningful problem-solving experiences. This study aims to analyze the impact of the PBL model in improving students' critical thinking skills by applying the Systematic Literature Review method in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. This research method identified 781 articles through Google Scholar, of which 22 articles met the inclusion criteria. The results show that PBL effectively optimizes students' higher-order thinking skills by involving them in contextual learning. PBL also provides more structured opportunities for scientific reasoning compared to other models. Further research is recommended to analyze the integration of PBL with various other digital media that can explore long-term impacts and involve broader levels of education for more comprehensive results.

Abstract

Abstract

Discovery Learning merupakan model pembelajaran yang menekankan pada proses membangun pemahaman melalui kegiatan eksploratif dan pengalaman belajar secara langsung. Rendahnya hasil belajar serta lemahnya pemahaman konsep peserta didik SMP pada pembelajaran IPA menunjukkan bahwa diperlukan inovasi pembelajaran yang lebih aktif dan bermakna. Penelitian ini bertujuan menelaah temuan-temuan studi sebelumnya mengenai penerapan Discovery Learning dalam pembelajaran IPA di jenjang SMP. Metode yang digunakan adalah Systematic Literature Review (SLR) dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, dan ResearchGate dengan menggunakan kata kunci “Discovery Learning,” “learning outcomes,” “conceptual understanding,” dan “junior high school science.” Artikel yang ditemukan kemudian diseleksi berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi untuk memastikan keterkaitannya. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Discovery Learning secara konsisten berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar dan pemahaman konsep peserta didik SMP pada pembelajaran IPA, serta mendorong peningkatan aktivitas, motivasi, dan keterlibatan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Kurikulum pendidikan memiliki peran penting dalam menentukan arah dan kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah. Faktor pembaruan kurikulum memiliki dampak signifikan terhadap proses pembelajaran siswa, baik dari segi pemahaman materi, sifat aktif dan kreatif siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pembaruan kurikulum terhadap proses pembelajaran siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini melalui pendekatan studi literatur dengan model PRISMA dengan database Google Schoolar dan jurnal yang telah terakreditasi oleh SINTA. Proses pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menghimpun 32 jurnal yang peneliti cari sebagai referensi, dan didapatkaan 10 jurnal yang sesuai dengan topik yang dianalisis. Hasil observasi menghasilan data berupa faktok-faktor yang sangat berpengaruh terhadap pembaruan kurikulum pendidikan diantaranya adalah pemanfaatan teknologi, kualitas guru, sosialbudaya, serta tuntutan dunia kerja dalam era globalisasi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pembaharuankurikulum memiliki dampak yang signifikan terhadap proses pembelajaran siswa. Sebuah pembaruan yang ideal dapat terjadi apabila terdapat faktor- faktor pendukung yang melatarbelakangi suatu pembaruan.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe science education students' perceptions of critical thinking skills, particularly in terms of critical openness and reflective skepticism. A quantitative approach using descriptive methods was applied to 52 fifth-semester students selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Critical Thinking Disposition Scale (CTDS) questionnaire and analyzed descriptively through the calculation of average scores and percentages. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills were in the moderate category with a total score of 50%. Reflective skepticism scored higher (51%) than critical openness (49%), indicating that students were stronger in assessing and reflecting on information than in accepting new perspectives. These findings emphasize the need for more dialogical and reflective learning strategies so that both aspects of critical thinking develop in a balanced manner. In addition, this study contributes to the development of critical thinking skills in higher education and opens up opportunities for further study related to other factors that influence student perceptions.

Abstract

Science learning anxiety can hinder pre-service teachers' engagement with scientific concepts and negatively affect their future teaching practices. However, instruments specifically designed to measure this construct in science education contexts remain limited. This study developed and validated the Brief Science Learning Anxiety Scale (BSLAS) to measure science learning anxiety among pre-service science teachers, based on Hooda and Saini's theory of academic anxiety. The development process involved five stages: scale design, item development, item selection, validation, and evaluation. Content validity was evaluated using Aiken's V, which indicated strong agreement among experts (V = .91). Exploratory factor analysis with 320 respondents identified five dimensions: worry, procrastination, study skills deficits, emotionality, and task-generated interference, explaining 49.04% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analysis on an independent sample of 324 respondents supported the factorial structure and demonstrated an acceptable model fit. The scale also demonstrated adequate convergent and discriminant validity and high internal reliability (ω = .847-.917). These findings indicate that the BSLAS has sound psychometric properties and can serve as a practical instrument for identifying science learning anxiety among pre-service teachers. The instrument may also support further research in science education and help inform teaching strategies that foster more adaptive science learning environments.

Abstract

The 21st century demands individuals to possess adequate scientific literacy to navigate technological advancements and global challenges. Scientific literacy entails understanding scientific concepts and strengthening abilities critical thinking. However, the 2022 PISA results revealed that Indonesian learners’ scientific literacy remains low, with a mean score of 383, below the OECD average. This condition calls for the implementation of effective learning models, among them is Project Based Learning (PjBL). This research seeks to examine the application of PjBL in science learning and how it affects students’ scientific literacy through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Fifteen articles obtained from Google Scholar were analyzed using the keywords “Model Project Based Learning” “Literasi Sains” “Siswa Sekolah” and “Pembalajaran IPA” with the selection process following PRISMA guidelines. The analysis shows that PjBL positively influences the improvement of scientific literacy across educational levels. At the elementary level, PjBL helps students grasp scientific concepts through contextual project activities. In lower secondary school, the integration of digital media such as E-LKPD and liveworksheets enhances students’ scientific reasoning. In upper secondary school, the combination of PjBL with STEM approaches and cultural contexts effectively strengthens higher-order thinking skills. Overall, PjBL is proven to be a relevant model for improving students’ scientific literacy by promoting active, collaborative, and project-oriented learning which fosters the growth of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Science process skills represent fundamental abilities that must be strengthened in 21st-century education, as they support students in developing scientific ways of thinking, solving problems, and constructing conceptual understanding. Data from the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) show that Indonesian students achieved a science score of 383, a decline from 396 in 2018, which reflects the limited development of essential scientific skills. This study analyzes the role of the Discovery Learning model in enhancing students’ science process skills at elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels in Indonesia. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review method following PRISMA guidelines. An initial search of Google Scholar using the keywords Discovery Learning, Science Process Skills, and Science identified 4,820 articles. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 28 relevant studies published between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed, consisting of 4 elementary, 12 junior high, and 12 senior high school studies. The findings consistently show that Discovery Learning positively influences science process skills through observing, experimenting, and drawing conclusions based on empirical evidence. Across educational levels, this model supports scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and scientific attitudes. This review contributes to science education by synthesizing evidence on the implementation of Discovery Learning across educational levels, providing a structured reference for educators and researchers to strengthen science process skills instruction. In addition, the findings highlight opportunities for future studies to integrate Discovery Learning with digital technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to further enhance students’ scientific competencies

Abstract

Students’ scientific argumentation skills are not yet optimally developed because classroom learning is still dominated by teacher-centered activities. Students tend to memorize material rather than practice constructing evidence-based arguments. Problem Based Learning (PBL) is considered an effective innovative learning approach as it emphasizes active student involvement in solving real-world problems through group discussions, with the teacher acting as a facilitator. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of PBL in enhancing students’ scientific argumentation skills. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA method was conducted. Articles were searched through Google Scholar using the keywords “Problem Based Learning,” “Scientific Argumentation,” and “Science.” The search yielded 354 articles, which were screened based on publication year (2019–2025), full-text availability, language, and topic relevance. Fifteen articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that PBL effectively improves students’ scientific argumentation skills at the elementary, junior, and senior high school levels. The quality of argumentation can be further enhanced by using interactive media, such as PowerPoint, virtual simulations, and student worksheets (LKPD), as well as learning approaches like Socio-Scientific Issues and Flipped Classroom.
