Abstract

Farmers, especially those in Blang Krueng Village, Baitussalam Subdistrict, Aceh Besar District, have so far been raising livestock using traditional or semi-extensive patterns, where livestock are released in pastures or rice fields to find their own feed and in the afternoon given grass that has been cut into pieces. The purpose of the activity is to assist farmers in their livestock business, especially in the problem of feed needs that still cannot be met. This activity is carried out using the PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) approach. In this case the target audience participates in increasing and analyzing their knowledge about their own conditions so that they can make plans and actions, especially in efforts to raise cattle. The method of processing fermented straw, among others, the straw is aerated so that the moisture content is 40%, the straw is stacked with a length of 2.5 m, a width of 2.5 m and a thickness of 25 cm, on top of the straw layer watered with water that has been mixed with urea until evenly distributed, on top of the straw layer sprinkled with starter until evenly distributed, the straw is stacked again with a thickness of 25 cm trampled until solid, repeated watering of water mixed with urea until evenly distributed, repeated sowing of starter until evenly distributed, so repeated until the pile can reach 3 m, after completion the top is covered with dry leaves such as banana leaves, rice straw is left for at least 3-4 weeks and fermented rice straw is ready to be given to livestock. The results of the service that have been achieved are the availability of alternative feed from fermented straw and can be given to cattle, where the cattle also want to consume it.

Abstract

The long-term purpose of this community service is to support the autonomy of the university through independent income generation and to encourage the development of a culture of utilizing university research results for the community through the mobile veterinary clinic business carried out by Prof. Noerjanto Teaching Veterinary Hospital. To achieve above objectives, it was necessary to modify the existing clinic vehicle to include an operating room, mini-laboratory and pharmacy. The implementation of activities was carried out for five working days a week, by actively visiting smallholder livestock centers per village per day in the Aceh Besar areas. Services provided included livestock health consultation, treatment, vaccination (an effective measure as a form of protection for animals, synchronization of heat and artificial insemination, and assistance during birth. The diagnosis methods utilize the latest techniques, namely diagnosis and therapy techniques used in the field of veterinary medicine, which were the results of previous research. Mobile Clinic of Prof. Noerjanto's Teaching Veterinary Hospital had been modified by providing an operating table, mini laboratory, pharmacy, and repainting the car, thus increased the attractiveness of the community during the activities were carried out. Mass treatment of livestock in Aceh Besar district had reached the target which services covered five sub-districts. In conclusion, the mobile veterinary clinic in 2017 has successfully modified the clinic car and provided health services in 5 sub-districts in Aceh Besar District.

Abstract

The community service activity aims to establish a partnership system with breeders by providing limited goat assistance for six months or one reproductive cycle with the introduction of artificial insemination and ovulation manipulation technology, thus the strengthening of business capital can be increased. This activity involved ten target audiences from Ajee Rayeuk Village, Ingin Jaya Sub-District, Aceh Besar District. Criteria for the target audience were 1) having the lowest income, 2) having experience in raising goats whether their own goats or other people goats, 3) having a pen for at least 4 livestock, and, 4) having family members who are able and have time to focus on managing and caring for their livestock. The community service team was procuring goats based on the criteria that the goat have given birth, clinically healthy, and 3 years old, so the goats had a high productivity performance. The total number of goats provided was 30 goats, with three goats for each target audience. The goats were then subjected to ovulation manipulation technology and artificial insemination.
