Abstract

Mathematics is often considered a frightening and difficult subject for students. This is one of the causes of reduced student interest in learning mathematics. Based on field observations, the teaching and learning process still uses conventional learning methods, so that learning becomes boring and tends to be monotonous for students and reduces student interest and motivation in learning mathematics material. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the project based learning (PjBL) method on the learning motivation of second-grade students of SD 177 Pekanbaru. The research method used in this study is an experimental method (pre-experimental design) using a one-group pretest posttest design. The data collection technique used is a questionnaire. Furthermore, researchers use the N-Gain test as a data analysis technique with the help of the IBM SPSS Statistics 29 software program. Based on data analysis, the results obtained are 0.001 <0.05, this can be interpreted that H0 and H1 are rejected. And the results of the N-Gain Score test are 0.56 and the N-Gain percentage is 56%, which means that the interpretation category has a high effectiveness value. So it can be concluded that project-based learning (PjBL) has an effect on the learning motivation of class II students of SD 177 Pekanbaru, namely 56%.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of using canva in designing lecture presentations. The background of this study stems from the rapid development of digital technology that encourages the use of design applications as a means of supporting the learning process. The research method used was a quantitative survey involving 30 students as respondents who were selected purposively, namely those who had direct experience using canva. The data collection instrument was a Likert scale questionnaire with 20 statements covering aspects of ease of use, time efficiency, quality and creativity, academic benefits, collaboration, limitations, and satisfaction levels. The results showed that the majority of students had a positive view of using canva. This application was considered easy to operate even without in-depth design skills, helping to speed up the preparation of presentations, while also improving the quality and creativity of the display. In addition, canva is considered to provide real academic benefits, support collaboration, and encourage the exploration of diverse visual styles. However, there are still a number of weaknesses, such as the limitations of the free version, visual designs that are considered less suitable for formal academic contexts, and a small number of students who feel that their creative space is limited. From this research, it can be concluded that canva can be used as an alternative medium to support the learning process in higher education, particularly in developing students' presentation skills. Lecturers and educational institutions can also utilize canva as an innovative learning tool that encourages creativity, collaboration, and improves the quality of material delivery. In addition, the results of this study can be used as a basis for developing policies on the use of digital media in academic activities that are more effective and relevant to students' needs. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi persepsi mahasiswa mengenai efektivitas penggunaan canva dalam merancang presentasi perkuliahan. Latar belakang kajian ini berangkat dari pesatnya perkembangan teknologi digital yang mendorong pemanfaatan aplikasi desain sebagai sarana penunjang proses pembelajaran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survey kuantitatif yang melibatkan 30 mahasiswa sebagai responden yang dipilih secara purposive, yakni mereka yang memiliki pengalaman langsung menggunakan canva. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa angket skala Likert dengan 20 butir pernyataan yang mencakup aspek kemudahan penggunaan, efisiensi waktu, kualitas dan kreativitas, manfaat akademik, kolaborasi, keterbatasan, serta tingkat kepuasan. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa memiliki pandangan positif terhadap penggunaan canva. Aplikasi ini dinilai mudah dioperasikan meskipun tanpa keahlian desain yang mendalam, membantu mempercepat penyusunan presentasi, sekaligus meningkatkan mutu dan kreativitas tampilan. Selain itu, canva dianggap memberi manfaat akademik nyata, mendukung kerja sama, dan mendorong eksplorasi gaya visual yang beragam. Meski demikian, masih ditemukan sejumlah kelemahan, seperti keterbatasan fitur versi gratis, desain visual yang dinilai kurang sesuai untuk konteks akademik formal, serta sebagian kecil mahasiswa yang merasa ruang berkreasi mereka terbatasi. Dari penelitian ini dapat ditemukan bahwa canva dapat dijadikan media alternatif untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi, khususnya dalam pengembangan keterampilan presentasi mahasiswa. Dosen dan institusi pendidikan juga dapat memanfaatkan canva sebagai sarana pembelajaran inovatif yang mendorong kreativitas, kolaborasi, serta peningkatan kualitas penyampaian materi. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi dasar bagi pengembangan kebijakan penggunaan media digital dalam kegiatan akademik yang lebih efektif dan relevan dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) Budaya Melayu Riau berbasis coding terhadap kemampuan berpikir komputasional (computational thinking) siswa sekolah dasar. LKPD ini dikembangkan dengan mengintegrasikan unsur budaya lokal dan aktivitas coding sebagai upaya menumbuhkan kemampuan berpikir sistematis, logis, dan kreatif sejak dini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain pretest-posttest one group design, yang dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas IV SDN 105 Pekanbaru tahun pelajaran 2025/2026. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes kemampuan computational thinking, observasi aktivitas siswa, dan dokumentasi hasil belajar. Analisis data dilakukan secara statistik deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro–Wilk dan Paired Sample t-Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata skor siswa meningkat dari 64,63 menjadi 67,78 setelah penerapan LKPD, dengan nilai signifikansi uji t sebesar 0,406 (> 0,05), yang berarti tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara pretest dan posttest. Nilai rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,032 termasuk kategori rendah, namun menunjukkan adanya tren peningkatan positif terhadap kemampuan berpikir komputasional siswa. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa integrasi budaya Melayu Riau dalam LKPD berbasis coding memiliki potensi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan minat belajar siswa, meskipun efektivitasnya masih memerlukan penguatan dari aspek pedagogis dan durasi penerapan.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the mathematical communication skills of grade V elementary school students in mathematics subjects through geometry teaching materials based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) with the context of baganduang boats. This teaching material was developed on building flat and curved side spaces by emphasizing the relationship of mathematical concepts with daily life, so that abstract ideas are easier to understand. The research uses the Plomp model development method, which consists of three stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. In the initial stage, literature studies, curriculum analysis, and student needs are identified. Furthermore, the prototype of teaching materials that includes teacher books and student books is validated by three validators, then tested through one-to-one, small groups, and revisions according to field input. The final stage is in the form of a large group trial to assess the practicality and effectiveness of the teaching materials. The validation results show an average score of 0.89 (very valid). The practicality test obtained a score of 94.22% from students and 98.13% from teachers in small groups, as well as 95.8% from students and 99.16% from teachers in large groups (very practical). Effectiveness was shown through the N-Gain test of 0.8 (high category) with a percentage of 82.6% (effective). The score of mathematical communication ability increased from 45.6 (pretest) to 88.3 (posttest) with an average increase of 42.78 (sufficient category). Thus, RME-based geometry teaching materials in the context of baganduang boats have proven to be valid, practical, and effective in improving mathematical communication of elementary school students

Abstract

This article reports developmental research about digital comics on celestial objects learning material to facilitate sixth-grade elementary school students’ reading interest. The type of research was research and development (R&D) using ADDIE model, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The data were obtained through questionnaires. Subject of the research involved sixth-grade public elementary school students of 96 Pekanbaru. The validation results that were validated by the validator on digital comic media, which consisted of 6 assessment aspects achieved an average score of 94.37% with a very valid category. The results from limited trials obtained an average score of 93.16% with a very decent category. Above all, it can be concluded that digital comics learning material celestial objects to facilitate the sixth-grade elementary school students’ reading interest were proper to use for learning media in elementary school.

Abstract

This article reports the product of digital comics that can ease teachers to convey material and enable students to understand the subject matter. Type of the research is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects involved researchers as media designers, media experts, material experts, linguists, teachers, and students. The instrument of data collection uses a questionnaire. The questionnaire used is a validation sheet and a product trial questionnaire. The results of the PE conducted by validators and practitioners on digital comic media, which consists of six assessment aspects obtained an average score of 86.40% with a very valid category. Validation validated by media experts achieved 78%. Validation validated by material experts achieved 89%. Validation validated by linguists achieved 84%. validation validated by practitioner I achieved 93% and validation from practitioner II achieved 94%. Thus, the results of the average score obtained 87.6% with a very valid category. The results of the one-on-one trial with three students obtained 82.5%with a very decent category. In addition, the results obtained from a limited trial of 13 students obtained an average score of 88.65% with a very decent category.

Abstract

This study was intended to construct a Pacu Jalur ethnic-based contextual model, a learning model developed based on the stages of Pacu Jalur Ethno. This study was a research and development (R&D) study using the Borg & Gall stages. The research was carried out until the product development stage, which involved designing a learning model based on Pacu Jalur Ethno. The resulting product was then validated by experts to determine the appropriateness of the Pacu Jalur Ethno-based contextual model for classroom use. Data were collected through literature review, interviews, observations, and documentation. Based on the findings, the Pacu Jalur Ethno-based contextual model was deemed suitable for implementation in the learning process using the following syntax: stage 1, planning (merencanakan); stage 2, doing the tasks (membuek jalur); stage 3, discussion (bapacu); and stage 4, closing (panutuik). The Pacu Jalur ethnic-based contextual model illustrated that learning activities could integrate local wisdom relevant to the environment where the learning took place. Consequently, the learning process became more concrete by linking concepts to students’ daily lives.

Abstract

In today’s highly advanced era, elementary school students are not only required to be able to perform calculations but also to possess critical and logical thinking skills. One essential skill is computational thinking, which refers to the ability to solve problems systematically, similar to how computers operate-processing and solving problems step by step. Mathematics plays a vital role in developing this ability, as mathematics learning fosters logic, reasoning, and problem-solving strategies. This article discusses the relationship between mathematics learning and the development of computational thinking among elementary school students, as well as the challenges still faced in schools. The main issue is that mathematics instruction often remains focused on mechanical computation, causing students to be less accustomed to connecting mathematical concepts with computational ways of thinking. Studies indicate that when teachers integrate computational thinking strategies into mathematics lessons, students are more likely to understand concepts deeply, demonstrate greater creativity in solving problems, and develop skills that are relevant to the demands of the 21st century. Consequently, elementary school teachers need to design mathematics lessons that not only strengthen students’ arithmetic skills but also cultivate habits of logical, systematic, and reflective thinking. In this way, mathematics can serve as a crucial foundation for developing computational thinking skills from the early stages of education.
