Abstract

The curriculum changes are intended to have a positive impact on the educational system in Indonesia. Through the Merdeka curriculum, learning focuses on the main materials, character development, and students' skills. One of the skills that requires creativity and high-level thinking skills is writing. Advanced writing skill aims to enable students to express their ideas and feelings in written form systematically and develop their creative ideas more broadly, clearly, and integratively. Various types of text are studied at elementary school by considering linguistic rules. This study aims to 1) analyze advanced writing skills of 5th-grade students, and 2) analyze difficulties faced by 5th-grade students in advanced writing. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze students' advanced writing skills. Subjects in this study were 5th-grade students and teachers in Gresik Regency. Moreover, the data collection techniques were tests and interviews. The results of the study showed that 5th-grade students are able to write essays or writings. However, aspects that must be considered include linguistic rules (spelling, sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation), diction, coherence between sentences, and abilities in developing ideas or concepts based on something that has not been experienced before. It can be concluded that 5th-grade students have writing skills, but writing procedures and linguistic rules still require greater attention, which must be followed up in line with curriculum changes that are adaptive and relevant to current developments.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study aims to explore the embodiment of local character values through Remo dance extracurricular activities at SDN Wonokusumo I/40 Surabaya. As a traditional East Javanese dance rich in philosophical and cultural elements, Remo dance serves as an effective pedagogical tool for character education at the primary level. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving school principals, dance teachers, coaches, and students as key informants. The study applied triangulation of sources and techniques to ensure data validity and reliability. The findings indicate that Remo dance extracurricular activities significantly contribute to the development of students’ character values, including discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, cooperation, and cultural appreciation. Students actively engaged in the learning process demonstrated not only technical mastery of the dance but also internalized moral and social values inherent in the practice. Participation in dance practices and public performances fostered emotional expression, respect for tradition, and a sense of collective pride among learners. Furthermore, the study reveals that the integration of local cultural content through extracurricular activities enhances contextual learning, aligns with the Merdeka Curriculum, and supports national education goals in Indonesia. Despite challenges such as limited resources and time constraints, the commitment of educators and students sustained the continuity and quality of the program. This research highlights the relevance of utilizing traditional arts like Remo dance in educational settings as a culturally responsive approach to character building. It encourages schools to incorporate local wisdom in extracurricular activities to strengthen students’ identity and national cultural values. The study recommends expanding similar programs in other schools to promote cultural sustainability and character development holistically.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the integration of the Reading Workshop model and the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) approach in enhancing reading literacy among elementary school students. Utilizing the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research analyzed seven peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2024 that focused on the development of reading literacy in primary education settings. The findings reveal that the Reading Workshop model, when combined with SRL strategies, significantly improves students' reading comprehension, autonomy, and motivation to read. This integrative approach supports students in setting reading goals, monitoring their comprehension, and reflecting on their reading practices. Additionally, the literature indicates that the incorporation of digital media, culturally responsive materials, and differentiated instruction further enhances literacy outcomes. Particularly, strategies such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) enable teachers to tailor reading instruction to students’ actual reading levels, addressing diverse learning needs. In the context of the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia, which promotes personalized and inclusive education, the application of SRL-based Reading Workshop becomes highly relevant. Moreover, embedding local cultural values within reading materials fosters a deeper emotional connection and cultural awareness among students, enriching their overall literacy experience. The review concludes that an integrative literacy instruction model combining Reading Workshop and SRL, enriched by digital tools and contextualized content, is effective in addressing the challenges of reading literacy in elementary education. Future studies are encouraged to develop and empirically test instructional designs that operationalize this integration in classroom settings.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia shapes children’s character, personality, and abilities, but faces challenges like unequal access to resources, quality differences between regions, and low reading interest among children. This study aims to develop AI-based children’s storybooks through the Fry readability for elementary students. This study used the ADDIE model, which includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Results showed that AI-based storybooks can improve children’s reading interest and help teachers provide support based on students’ competence. The score of Expert validation was 37 out of 40 (92.5%), and media expert validation was 52 out of 55 (94.5%). Fry readability ensures the reading level is suitable for fourth to sixth-grade students to improve the quality of elementary education in Indonesia, reduce regional quality gaps, and improve students’ academic performance. The AI-based storybooks significantly boost children’s interest in reading, address low reading engagement, assist teachers in offering more effective educational support, and help bridge educational quality gaps between different regions. The alignment with children’s cognitive development ensures engaging and developmentally appropriate content, demonstrating an innovative approach to educational tools and paving the way for further technological integration in education. Therefore, the development of AI-based children’s storybooks with the Fry readability approach not only increases children’s reading interest but also assists teachers in providing more specific support according to students’ abilities. This innovation is expected to positively impact the quality of elementary education in Indonesia, help address educational quality disparities between regions, and enhance students’ academic achievements at the national level.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies in the last five years (2021–2024) has transformed the nature and dynamics of bullying among elementary school students. Bullying, which was once limited to physical and verbal aggression in school environments, has now shifted and expanded into cyberspace through social media and instant messaging platforms. This study aims to systematically review recent empirical and conceptual studies to understand the trends, risk factors, protective measures, and practical strategies for addressing bullying in elementary education. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design, ten peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2024 were critically analyzed based on inclusion criteria covering relevance, credibility, and methodological rigor. The review found that the widespread availability of affordable smartphones and unsupervised internet access has escalated cyberbullying cases among young learners. Teachers remain key agents in building a safe school climate, yet their capacity must be supported by parental awareness and robust digital citizenship education. The findings also reveal that socio-emotional learning, empathy training, and technological monitoring tools are effective in mitigating bullying behaviors both offline and online. However, gaps persist in policy implementation, stakeholder synergy, and sustainable parental involvement. This study recommends that future anti-bullying programs integrate context-sensitive approaches that combine preventive education, ethical use of technology, and clear school-based regulations. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of the evolving bullying phenomenon and provide a practical reference for educators, policymakers, and researchers to develop comprehensive and adaptive strategies for fostering a bully-free learning environment in the digital age.
