Abstract

Pamona traditional wedding clothes are part of the cultural heritage that contains various systems of signs and symbolic values that reflect the life view of the Pamona people. Although a number of studies have addressed the traditional wedding traditions of Pamona, studies that specifically examine the symbolic significance of elements of Pamona traditional wedding dress based on the semiotic perspective of Charles Sanders Peirce are still relatively limited. This condition results in the cultural meaning contained in every element of Pamona traditional bridal clothing that has not been comprehensively documented and interpreted in scientific studies. Therefore, this study aims to describe the symbolic meaning contained in Pamona's traditional wedding dress. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach by involving four main informants, namely Pamona traditional leaders, traditional clothing artisans, and community elders who have in-depth knowledge of Pamona traditional clothing. Data collection was carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model and studied through the Charles Sanders Peirce semiotic framework. The results of the study show that each element in the Pamona traditional wedding dress contains a symbolic meaning that reflects the cultural values of the Pamona people. In men's clothing, siga is interpreted as a symbol of leadership and social status, while guma symbolizes responsibility, work ethic, and protection of the family. Meanwhile, in women's clothing, bingka ornaments represent responsibility and concern in family life, while areca nut ornaments symbolize loyalty and commitment in marital relationships. Analysis of the relationship between representation, object, and interpretation shows that these symbols function as a means of transmitting cultural values, social norms, and the collective identity of the Pamona people. This research contributes to strengthening scientific documentation on the symbolism of Pamona traditional wedding dresses, expanding the treasures of local cultural semiotics studies, and supporting efforts to preserve the cultural heritage and customary knowledge system of the Pamona people for the sustainability of future generations

Abstract

This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to describe the forms of commissive speech acts in the public debate of the 2024 regent and deputy regent candidates of Poso Regency. Data were collected through non-participant observation, listening, and note-taking techniques on the candidates’ utterances across three debate sessions broadcast through official media channels. The data were analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal 59 commissive utterances, consisting of 56 promises (marked by expressions such as will, we will maintain, menjamin guarantee, we will actualiz, we will expand, we will establish, we will implement, we aspire, dedicated, and resolute, the remaining utterances consist of 2 instances of commissive offering, marked by offering, and 1 instance of commissive refusing, marked by dissent. The study shows that commissive speech acts are not only used to deliver political programs but also to build public trust through issues of unity, religious moderation, welfare, and regional development. The novelty of this research lies in its examination of commissive speech acts in local political debates within a post-conflict society context, which has been rarely discussed in previous studies. The results contribute to the development of pragmatics in political communication and demonstrate that commissive speech acts function as a linguistic strategy used by candidates to express political commitments and build public trust in public debates.

English is the most dominant language used with a total of twenty data, then Arabic five data, Javanese two data, and finally Korean one data. The factors that cause code mixing include speaker factors and linguistic factors. The most dominant factor is the linguistic factor with a total of eighteen data, because it relates to the need for speakers to convey meaning precisely, specifically, and efficiently, especially in the use of scientific, technical, and popular terms. Meanwhile, the speaker factor only amounted to ten data, because it was related to cultural background, language habits, social identity, and communication style of the speaker. Thus, the phenomenon of code mixing on  the tuah kreasi youtube channel reflects the dynamics of language use in a bilingual society which is influenced by the development of social media and globalization.
