Abstract

Sustainable tourism development requires community-based management of tourism villages that is grounded in local potential. Sewu Kembang Tourism Village faces challenges related to weak institutional capacity, limited human resources, and suboptimal utilisation of tourism assets. This community service programme aims to strengthen tourism village governance through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which positions the community as the main actor throughout the intervention process. The PAR method was implemented through four iterative stages: participatory problem identification and potential mapping, collaborative action planning, action implementation through training and technical assistance, and participatory reflection and evaluation. The programme involved local communities, Pokdarwis, village government, and universities as collaborative partners. The findings indicate significant improvements in human resource capacity, institutional strengthening of Pokdarwis, and increased community participation in tourism management. These improvements were measured through pre- and post-tests, performance observations, and the application of newly acquired skills in destination management practices. The results demonstrate that PAR is an effective approach for fostering community empowerment and supporting the sustainability of tourism village development.

Abstract

Single sample face recognition (SSFR) remains a challenging task due to the limitation of having only one reference image per identity, which reduces embedding diversity and decreases robustness under variations of pose, expression, and illumination. This study proposed a hybrid framework that integrates deep learning-based detection through anchor box optimization and non-maximum suppression (NMS) with lightweight handcrafted feature extraction using local binary pattern (LBP). The detection stage leverages deep learning to ensure robust face localisation, while LBP maintains computational efficiency under limited-sample conditions. The training process showed accuracy improvement from 47.5% at the initial epoch to 98.0% at epoch 72, while testing accuracy stabilized at 85-88% with the best value of 87.9%. Evaluation on 48 new facial images achieved 89.6% accuracy, 95.3% precision, 91.1% recall, 93.1% F1-score, and 0.94 area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC ROC). Real-world implementation on Android and iOS-based attendance applications further validated the model, reaching 88.46% accuracy across 52 tests under 50-400 lux illumination. The findings proved that the proposed hybrid design provides improved accuracy and stability compared with previous approaches.

Abstract

Background: In the VUCA era, internships function as critical learning spaces bridging academic preparation and professional practice, exposing students to complex cognitive demands where errors shape learning trajectories. Research urgency: While experiential and informal learning are widely discussed, limited attention has been given to how interns learn from cognitive errors, particularly attention and memory slips, and how these challenges can be addressed through internship design. Research objective: This study examines how attention and memory slips operate as cognitive thresholds in interns’ informal learning, explores the role of reflective practice in transforming these slips into adaptive learning opportunities, and proposes an integrated internship design model. Research method: A qualitative interpretivist–constructivist approach was employed involving 30 undergraduate interns across corporate, creative, and educational sectors. Data were collected through interviews, reflective journals, and field observations and analyzed using thematic analysis with cross-case comparison. Research findings: Attention slips were linked to cognitive overload and task fragmentation, while memory slips were associated with procedural disruption, fatigue, and the absence of cognitive aids. Supported by psychological safety, reflective supervision, and tools such as digital checklists, these slips became catalysts for informal learning and metacognitive regulation. Research conclusion: Attention and memory slips function as developmental thresholds that, when reflectively scaffolded, strengthen cognitive resilience, procedural fluency, and professional judgment. Research novelty: This study advances a cognitive scaffolding framework that positions attention and memory slips as interconnected triggers for reflective mentoring and error-driven informal learning in internship contexts.

Abstract

Child labor has emerged as a prevalent social phenomenon, particularly in the city of Malang. This practice infringes upon children's rights, necessitating their adaptation to their environment through cognitive processes. Consequently, a learning process known as social learning is initiated. This study aims to analyze the social learning processes of child laborers and the factors influencing these processes within the context of Malang. Employing a qualitative case study approach, grounded in Albert Bandura's social cognitive theory, data was collected through in-depth interviews with three child labor informants. The findings reveal a multi-faceted social learning process encompassing four stages: attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation. A variety of factors were identified as influencing the social learning experiences of child laborers.
