Abstract

This study examines the strategies employed by school principals to enhance the digital pedagogic competencies of teachers in three public high schools in Kluet Utara, Aceh, Indonesia. With the growing demand for digital integration in education, effective leadership is critical in preparing teachers to utilize digital tools in classroom settings. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected over a two-month period through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and document analysis. The findings revealed three main themes: (1) Professional Development Initiatives, (2) Infrastructure and Resource Allocation, and (3) Collaborative Practices. Professional development programs, such as workshops and training sessions, played a crucial role in developing foundational digital skills. Infrastructure investments in internet connectivity and digital resources facilitated digital integration, though resource limitations in some schools posed challenges. Collaborative practices, including peer mentoring and team-based problem solving, played a crucial role in fostering a supportive environment for digital teaching. However, teachers faced challenges related to varying levels of digital proficiency, time constraints, and limited resources. This study highlights the importance of a comprehensive, leadership-driven approach to developing digital competencies among teachers, suggesting that a combination of continuous professional development, adequate resources, and collaborative support can significantly enhance digital integration in schools. These findings underscore the necessity for educational leaders to adopt a comprehensive, multifaceted approach to building digital competencies among teachers. By strategically integrating continuous professional development, adequate infrastructure, and collaborative frameworks, school leaders can significantly accelerate digital transformation efforts. For policymakers, this research underscores the crucial importance of aligning educational policies with resource allocation and leadership training to facilitate systemic digital integration. In an increasingly digitalized educational landscape, such leadership-driven strategies are indispensable for achieving equitable and effective teaching outcomes on a broader scale.

Abstract

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to describe how teachers design the Computer-Based Madrasah Exam (CBME) questions for English subjects, to investigate learning strategies students use, and to explore the obstacles the students face in this exam. Questionnaires and interviews were used as the instruments to collect data for this study. A number of 95 ninth-grade students and two English teachers of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri No. 1 (MTsN 1; this school level is equivalent to junior high schools) in South Aceh, Indonesia, participated in this study. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively using thematic analysis. The results revealed that in designing the assessment of CBME, the teachers used four strategies which were preparing for the change in the final exam model, selecting sources in designing the exam questions, preparing students to face the exam in the new model, and resolving obstacles in developing the exam questions. Meanwhile, the students used five strategies in facing the exam, they are managing time, motivating themselves, creating study groups, practicing, and strengthening basic abilities. Furthermore, the obstacles that the students faced in the exam are a lack of skill in using a computer for the exam, slow internet access, limited computer availability, limitation of vocabulary mastery, taking time to understand questions, and peers interventions. Thus, this study suggests that more training is still needed for teachers in designing the assessment model of CMBE and the school also need sufficient facilities before they enforce CMBE to their students.

Abstract

Decimal numbers are difficult to understand by elementary school students because they consider fractions and decimals as different things. Therefore, learning decimal fractions should be associated with real experiences to make it more meaningful, one of which is through realistic mathematics education (RME) with Islamic context. This study aims to analyze students' understanding and response to RME with Islamic context by using mixed method. The population of this study were fourth grade students in one of the integrated Islamic elementary schools in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Data collection was done through tests and interviews. The results showed that 75.56% of students had good concept understanding skills. Students experience misconceptions in sorting one-digit and two-digit decimal numbers, even though the teacher has provided illustrations in learning and students also find their own position of one-digit and two-digit decimal numbers on the scale model. Based on interviews, it was found that students were very happy in participating in mathematics learning with an Islamic context because they could get a reward (pahala) while learning mathematics reading the Qur’an and getting new knowledge such as the story of the prophet Syuaib's people, sincerity in giving, and prioritizing honesty in trading.      Keywords: concept understanding ability, realistic mathematics education, Islamic context, decimal numbers.

Abstract

2013 curriculum has mandated the importance of teachers and paying attention to aspects of diversity of students in learning, including intelligence. Based on the type of intelligence proposed by Gardner (2003), linguistic-verbal intelligence and mathematical logical intelligence are two intelligences that need to be considered by the teacher in mathematics learning, for example when the teacher prepares a mathematics learning tool. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of mathematical learning tools based on linguistic-verbal intelligence and mathematical logical intelligence on material equations and linear inequalities. This study used the Plomp development model which consists of three phases, namely initial investigation, design, and assessment. The trial was carried out four times for students of class VII-8 in SMP Negeri 2 Banda Aceh. To determine the effectiveness of learning devices, criteria Kemp was applied, et al (1994). The results of the development showed that the mathematics learning tools based on linguistic-verbal intelligence and mathematical logical intelligence were effective. Because of that, this learning tool is worthy of being used by teachers in mathematics learning, especially in similarities material and linear inequalities.
