Abstract

Daun kelor (Moringa oleifera) dikenal sebagai sumber nutrisi alami yang kaya akan nitrogen, fosfor, kalium, serta berbagai mikronutrien dan senyawa bioaktif. Penelitian-penelitian terbaru menunjukkan potensi ekstrak daun kelor sebagai bahan baku pupuk organik cair (POC) yang dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman sekaligus memperbaiki kesehatan tanah. Artikel ini bertujuan memberikan sintesis kritis terhadap bukti empiris mengenai efektivitas POC berbasis daun kelor serta mengidentifikasi celah riset yang menghambat adopsi skala luas. Temuan review menunjukkan bahwa POC daun kelor konsisten meningkatkan parameter pertumbuhan tanaman dan beberapa indikator kualitas tanah, namun variasi metode ekstraksi dan dosis aplikasi menghambat perbandingan lintas studi.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cocoa pod maturity on seed viability and early seedling growth in smallholder plantations of North Lombok, and its implications for economic efficiency and sustainability. The experiment was conducted using a factorial randomized complete design with three cocoa genotypes (Genotype-1, Genotype-2, and MCC-02) and three pod maturity levels (140, 150, and 170 days after flowering/DAF). The results indicated that seeds from physiologically mature pods (140 DAF) had the highest viability (germination rate 89.2% and normal seedlings 82.2%), whereas overripe pods (170 DAF) showed a significant decline (65.8% and 46.6%). Seedling growth up to two months was not significantly affected by pod maturity. Harvesting at 140–150 DAF proved more economically efficient by reducing nursery costs, while also supporting sustainability through the availability of high-quality seedlings without land expansion. These findings highlight the importance of appropriate harvest timing to enhance productivity and sustain smallholder cocoa production systems.

Abstract

Since physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) is heterozygous, sexual propagation results in great genotypic and phenotypic variability. Development of efficient techniques for asexual propagation would benefit the nursery industry as this would lead to selection and production of particular clones with desirable characteristics. Therefore, two following studies were conducted from September until December 2007.  The objective was develop a protocol for vegetative propagation of physic nut by stem cutting in different size of cutting. The first experiment was dealt with stem cutting length (20 cm, 25 cm, and 30 cm) at the same size of diameter (2.5-3.0 cm), and the second experiment was dealt with diameter of stem cutting (3 cm, 2.5-2.9 cm, 2.0-2.4 cm, and 1.5-1.9 cm) at the same size of length (30 cm). Each of experiment was designed in Completely Randomized Design with three replications. Each experimental unit consisted of 25 seedlings. The result showed that cutting growth varied depending on length and diameter of stem cutting. However, better seedling growth and better survival of young plant of physic nut can be obtained from stem cutting with 20-30 cm in length and stem cutting with 2.0-2.9 cm in diameter.   Key words: cutting diameter, cutting length, Jatropha, survival, transplanting

Abstract

Seed and oil production of physic nut (Jatropha curcas) is the function of planting material, growing condition, and alsocanopy architecture maintenance. The objective of the research was to determine the effect of pruning time on yield of physicnut. An experiment was conducted from November 2007 to November 2010 in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara using WestLombok genotype. The experimental design was randomized block design with three replications. There were four treatmentsi.e. a) without pruning, b) pruning at planting time, c) pruning of 1-year old trees at dormance period (after harvesting), andd) pruning of 2-years old trees at dormancy period (after harvesting). Results showed that development and maintenance ofphysic nut canopy is one of important agronomic practices to obtain high seed production. The best time for pruning during3-years production cycle was at the end of harvest of 1-year old trees which could yield more than 4 tonnes seed ha-1 .

Abstract

The fl owering biology of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) has been observed in dry land (sandy entisol soil type) of AmorAmor, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Exploration was conducted in several areas where high population of physic nut grown as fence plant was found. Quantitative, descriptive, and observation data were collected for each accession during two-year growth period. Randomized block design was used in this research with three replications from November 2006 until November 2008. Treatments consisted of fi ve ecotypes, i.e. West Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok, Sumbawa, and Bima. The results showed that fl owering of physic nut West Nusa Tenggara ecotypes was produced continuously during a year, while the peak number of fl ower was only twice e.g. at the early (November-February) and at the end (April–May) of rainy season. Duration of the fl owering process took around 3 days for female fl ower, around 2 days for male fl ower, and 7-10 days for total fl ower per infl orescence. Higher genetic potential for female fl ower formation was found on West Lombok, Sumbawa, and Bima ecotype. This result should be useful information for breeding programme of physic nut. However, since physic nut is a perennial plant, further study is needed especially on the technology to control fl owering. Keywords: dry season, fl owering, fruiting, rainy season,

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the pattern of yield improvement of Jatropha curcas L. of West Lombokecotype at dry land of North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara during four years production cycle. The experiment was conductedin randomized complete block design (RCBD) using three types of propagules (i.e., stem cutting, seed, and seed followed bypruning after transplanting) and three replications from November 2006 to November 2010. The results showed that yieldwas increased as plant age increased. Plants cultivated during rainy season had higher yield compared to those cultivatedduring dry season. However, the oil content of nuts was slightly higher when harvested in dry season than in rainy season.Yield was also affected by plant material used. In the fi rst year, plants propagated by stem cutting had the highest yield. Inthe second, third, and fourth year, plants propagated from seed followed by pruning produced the highest nut dry weight.During four years production cycle, yearly yield improvement was about 2-3 times than the previous year and did not followthe geometrical progression based on dichotomy branching pattern of Jatropha.Keywords: dry land, productivity, pruning, seed oil content, type of propagule
