Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of individual and environmental factors on eye fatigue among laptop users in office environments. The research was conducted using a descriptive observational design involving 33 workers at LMA Consortium Office, Kediri, East Java, with data collected through questionnaires, observations, and lighting intensity measurements. The findings reveal that most workers experienced eye fatigue, primarily due to laptop usage exceeding 4 hours per day, low lighting intensity (averaging 95.7 lux), and inadequate rest habits. Common complaints included blurred vision, eye discomfort, and headaches. Individual factors such as age, gender, and eyewear usage showed no significant relationship with eye fatigue, whereas environmental factors, particularly lighting, had a significant impact. Recommendations include improving lighting conditions, implementing ergonomic workplace practices, and raising worker awareness about the importance of eye rest. These findings emphasize the importance of ergonomic workplace management to reduce the risk of eye fatigue among laptop users.

Abstract

Introduction: The increasing use of chemical pesticides in agriculture raises concerns about heavy metal exposure. This study compares chronic heavy metal contamination levels (Pb, Cd, Cr6+) in the urine of pesticide sprayers and the general public in agricultural areas. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 100 respondents, equally divided between sprayers and the general public, was conducted. Data were gathered through interviews, observations, and laboratory tests. Heavy metal levels in urine were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). Factors like age, work duration, spraying frequency, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use were examined through Mann-Whitney and linear regression tests. Results and Discussion: Pesticide sprayers had significantly higher mean levels of Pb (0.084 mg/kg), Cd (0.010 mg/kg), and Cr6+ (0.010 mg/kg) than the general public. Key contributors to this accumulation included age, working hours, and the number of pesticide mixtures used. Inadequate PPE use and long exposure times were common, leading to health complaints such as nausea, vomiting, and headaches, indicating the harmful effects of pesticide exposure. Conclusion: Pesticide sprayers are at greater risk of heavy metal accumulation due to prolonged exposure and poor safety measures. Improving PPE use and reducing exposure are critical to minimizing health risks from heavy metal contamination. Awareness campaigns are necessary to protect agricultural workers.

Abstract

Marparan village in Sampang, Indonesia uses a communal rainwater harvesting system (RWHS) for collecting water during the dry season. This study aimed to assess the quality of the water in the communal rainwater catchment pond (CRHP) and investigate the occurrence of contact dermatitis among the community members. The research followed an observational approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 50 individuals randomly selected from the user community of the CRHP for sanitation hygiene purposes. Water samples were collected from the CRHP and analyzed for physical characteristics, pH level, and surfactant content. The results revealed that the water in the communal rainwater storage pond did not meet the quality standards established by the Ministry of Health Indonesia. Additionally, a significant association was found between age and the occurrence of contact dermatitis. However, no significant relationships were observed between variables such as activity type, exposure frequency, and the incidence of contact dermatitis. Moreover, no relationships were identified between activity type, exposure frequency, duration of exposure, and the occurrence of contact dermatitis. It was observed that respondents did not rinse with clean water after using the communal rainwater storage pond for bathing or washing clothes. Therefore, it is recommended that individuals rinse with clean water after engaging in activities involving the use of the rainwater storage pond to minimize the risk of contact dermatitis.

Abstract

English learning is a vital skill in the era of globalization. However, many elementary school students struggle with English and show limited interest due to monotonous and less engaging teaching methods. This often leads to low confidence in using the language actively. To address this issue, the English Learning Program (BBI) was implemented to improve the English proficiency of 4th grade students at elementary school. The program introduced interactive and enjoyable teaching strategies through a group-based approach, including language games, conversation practices, songs to introduce parts of the body, and basic grammar lessons. These activities aimed to create a positive learning environment that encourages active participation and boosts student confidence. The results showed increased enthusiasm, participation, and comprehension among students. Many students demonstrated improved ability and willingness to use English in daily conversation. This program highlights the importance of innovative and interactive methods in fostering early interest and language proficiency. It suggests that well-designed, enjoyable approaches can significantly enhance English learning at the elementary school level.
