Abstract

Abstract

The tragedy of ethnic Chinese violence in Batavia (1740), known as Chinezenmoord in Dutch historiography, was one of the darkest events in the colonial history of the Dutch East Indies, in which thousands of ethnic Chinese in Batavia were massacred by VOC forces involving indigenous groups. This event not only reflects physical violence, but also the result of the VOC's discriminatory policies that create structural injustice. This research focuses on analysing the dynamics of the tragedy of the 1740 Chinese ethnic massacre in Batavia through the lens of structural violence theory and reconstructing the event using a multi-perspective approach that integrates European, Chinese, and Javanese historical sources. The research method used is a historical method with four stages, namely heuristic, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, by utilizing historical sources, such as the VOC archive, the Kong Koan Chronicle, and the Babad Tanah Jawi. The results of the study showed that VOC policies such as residential pas, forced deportation, and economic exploitation triggered an escalation of violence, resulting in the mass murder of 10,000 ethnic Chinese. The social impact included the forced relocation of the Chinese community to Glodok and their flight to Central Java, while the political impact was in the form of a change in leadership of the Governor General of the East Indies. From an economic perspective, this tragedy caused a drastic decline in sugar production in Java.

Abstract

Schools and cultural heritage need to be strengthened in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including through cultural preservation and cultural heritage management. This community service activity in Brumbung Village aims to increase literacy awareness and make a positive contribution to the development of education and the preservation of local cultural heritage. By applying the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, this program utilizes local assets such as the Patirtan Geneng Site, the Brumbung Small Museum, and basic education institutions. A series of activities were carried out, including clean-up actions of cultural heritage sites and museums, teaching and socialization of culture-based curriculum, socialization of cultural heritage preservation, and Wayang Kulit performances. The results show a significant increase in people's awareness and knowledge, which has an impact on changing their attitudes and behaviors towards cultural heritage. This activity also strengthens the understanding that cultural preservation is the collective responsibility of the community, not just the government or formal institutions. Thus, this program becomes an effective model for local asset-based community empowerment in order to support sustainable education and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Background: Poverty is a persistent problem that fuels human trafficking, particularly in Sumba. Poverty refers to the condition of lacking essential needs, relying on others socially, and being unable to engage in a life of dignity within society. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship among cultural factors, poverty, and low legal awareness in contributing to human trafficking. Methods: This study employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods, with primary data collected through observation, interviews, and focus group discussions in Lewa, East Sumba. Secondary data were obtained from academic journals, legislation, and documentation of relevant past cases. Results: The results reveal a strong interconnection among the belis cultural practice, economic pressures, and vulnerability to human trafficking. These interrelated elements expose deep injustice and human rights violations concealed beneath cultural legitimacy, forming a complex web that communities struggle to escape. Conclusion: The study concludes that addressing human trafficking in Sumba requires integrated countermeasures targeting poverty, belis-related economic burdens, and customary exploitation. The state must enforce TPPO regulations, strengthen victim protection mechanisms, and pursue distributive, corrective, and social justice through law reform, access to education, and community economic empowerment.

Abstract

The low numeracy literacy ability of students in the number division material shows the need for learning media innovations that are able to provide concrete and meaningful learning experiences. This research aims to develop a learning media for Congklak Numbers (COLA) to improve the numeracy literacy of grade III students of SDN Klepek. The research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects consisted of one classroom teacher and 40 grade III students of SDN Klepek. The research instruments include interview guidelines, observation sheets, expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and numeracy ability tests. The data was analyzed descriptively, qualitatively and quantitatively using percentage analysis to measure validity and practicality, as well as a paired sample t-test to determine the effectiveness of the media. The results of the study showed that the Congklak Numbers (COLA) media obtained a validity level of 98% from material experts and 86% from media experts with a very valid category. The practicality of the media obtained a percentage of 96% of teachers and 97% of students in the limited trial, as well as 95% of teachers and 94% of students in the broad trial with the very practical category. The results of the effectiveness test showed an increase in the average score of students from 65 to 93 in the limited trial and from 63 to 91 in the large trial with a significance value of 0.001 (p<0.05). Thus, the Congklak Numbers (COLA) media is declared valid, practical, and effective so that it is suitable for use as a mathematics learning medium to improve students' numeracy literacy in elementary school grade III number division material

Abstract

Learning about Indonesian cultural diversity in primary school, particularly traditional clothing and traditional houses, still relies heavily on textbooks and worksheets, leaving students with only static visual illustrations. This condition contributes to low learning outcomes and limited student engagement during lessons. This study aims to describe the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of an Augmented Reality (AR) flashcard as an alternative medium for learning Indonesian cultural diversity. The study applied the Research and Development method using the ADDIE model, covering analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively in qualitative form for product revision and descriptively in quantitative form to calculate the percentages of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The results show that the media obtained a validity score of 87 percent, a practicality score of 89.5 percent, and an effectiveness score of 88.5 percent, all falling into the very good category according to the criteria used. The AR flashcard medium is proven suitable as an alternative social studies learning medium that helps students understand Indonesian cultural diversity in a more concrete and interactive way.
