Abstract

This study examines how consumers construct the social meanings of everyday food on Instagram using tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) consumption as an empirical context. Drawing on Social Representation Theory (SRT), the study interprets how shared meanings are built, negotiated, and objectified through visual and narrative representations in digital spaces. From more than 71,000 public posts tagged with #ikannila (tilapia fish), #nilamerah (red tilapia), and #nilahitam (black tilapia), a purposive sample of 391 selected consumer posts (2020–2024) was analysed using Reflective Thematic Analysis (RTA). Data validity was strengthened through thematic saturation and limited member checking. The analysis identified five main themes: Family, Flexibility, Taste, Locality, and Nutrition, which together form a structure of social meaning that reflects the emotional, practical, cultural, hedonic, and normative dimensions of everyday food consumption. The findings show that food functions not merely as a culinary object but as a cultural symbol that represents consumers' experiences and values. The implications of this study open opportunities for designing more resonant marketing messages as a foundation for meaning-driven marketing, using social representations of food to develop digital communication that is more authentic and participatory.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Quality of Work Life (QWL) factors to enhance employee engagement at PT XYZ. Using a quantitative descriptive approach with purposive sampling of 52 respondents comprising marketing and non-marketing employees, the research employed Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and Chi-Square tests to evaluate the relationship between QWL factors and employee satisfaction. Results indicate that while employees demonstrate high intrinsic motivation and work satisfaction, collaborative communication and long-term commitment require improvement. IPA analysis revealed that career development and compensation are critical priorities for the marketing division, requiring immediate intervention, while communication, occupational health, and conflict resolution represent strengths that should be maintained. Chi-Square testing showed that most QWL factors have no significant relationship with employee tenure or education level, except for conflict resolution and workplace safety, which demonstrated significant correlations with employee profiles. The study concludes that strategic improvements in career development, compensation, workplace safety, and adaptive conflict resolution mechanisms are essential for enhancing employee engagement and reducing turnover rates at PT XYZ.

Abstract

The global palm oil industry has become a focal point in agricultural trade due to its economic significance and environmental implications. As one of the world’s largest producers, Indonesia faces increasing pressure to maintain its competitiveness while addressing sustainability and trade policy challenges. This study aims to assess the development of scientific literature on Indonesian palm oil competitiveness and its relationship with global agricultural trade dynamics. The study was conducted using bibliometric analysis of 648 scientific articles obtained from Google Scholar and Scopus using the keyword "palm oil competitiveness". The articles were published in the time span from 1992 to 2025 for documents sourced from Google Scholar and the time span from 1985 to 2025 for documents sourced from Scopus. The data was analysed using Bibliometrix (R) and VOSviewer software to identify publication trends, main keywords, and interconnections between topics in the literature. The results showed a significant increase in the number of publications in the last decade, signalling high attention to the issue of palm oil competitiveness. Keywords such as “competitiveness”, “export performance”, “market share”, and “sustainable development” were central in the literature network, illustrating the important role of economic, policy, and sustainability aspects in strengthening Indonesia's palm oil position in the global market. The findings showed that palm oil competitiveness did not only depend on production efficiency, but also required downstream policy support, capacity building of farmers, and strengthening of trade diplomacy. This research was expected to serve as a reference for academics and policymakers in formulating a sustainable, equitable palm oil development strategy that was able to adaptively respond to global trade challenges.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examined the factors affecting Indonesia's rice imports between 1990 and 2024. Despite efforts to become self-sufficient in rice, Indonesia remains dependent on imports because of price differences, population growth, and fluctuating domestic production. To investigate both short-term and long-term relationships among important variables, such as domestic rice production, exchange rate, national income, domestic rice prices, population, and import tariffs, this study used secondary time series data and the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model in conjunction with the error correction model (ECM). The findings demonstrate that exchange rate depreciation has a substantial impact on rice imports, raising import costs without significantly lowering volumes because of the inelastic nature of rice demand. Higher import volumes are positively correlated with population growth and domestic price increases. Tariffs are found to have delayed effects in later periods but have a statistically negligible impact in the short term. The interdependence in the macroeconomic environment is indicated by the confirmed long-term equilibrium relationships between the variables. Based on the ARDL results, the error correction term (ECT) coefficient is negative and significant for cointegration validity, reflecting how quickly rice import levels revert to their long-run relationship with the specified factors. According to the study's findings, import regulations need to reform.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIndonesia’s export dependency on traditional marketcan be minimized by diversifying export markets. Rubber (HS 4001-natural rubber) is one of Indonesia's main export commoditiesto Latin America. Given Indonesia's export growth to Latin America, the region could become potential market for diversifying export markets. This study aimed to analyze the competitiveness of rubber commodities and the factors affecting Indonesian rubber exports to Latin America, using secondary data ie cross section data of 6 export destination countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru) and time series data during 7 years (2009-2015). The analysis tools used RCA, EPD, and gravity model. Based on average RCA value, HS 4001 (natural rubber) Indonesia’s product is able to compete in Latin American market. Meanwhile EPD analysis identified, Indonesia’s main commodities are on rising star, falling star, and retreat positions. Gravity model analysis shows that the factors which influence Indonesia’s export to America Latin are GDP of export destination countries, real exchange rate, export price, and economic distance.

Abstract

One of the sectors in Indonesia's GDP that has an important role in increasing economic growth is the agricultural sector. The horticulture sub-sector ranked fourth and contributes 14,96 percenet to the GRDP of the agricultural sector in 2021. Red chili is one of the horticultural commodities that has market opportunities quite good in terms of price and expected to increase farmer’s income. One way to increase farmer’s income is to increase productivity, which is supported by superior or certificate seed varieties. The objective of this study are to analyze the factors that influence farmers to choose certified and non-certified seeds, analyze the factors that influence the income of red chili farmers and the willingness to pay for red chili farmers to use certified and non-certified seeds in X-Koto District, Tanah Datar Regency. The method used in this study are binary logistic analysis, multiple regression analysis, and contingent valuation method. Based on the results of the study, the variables that significantly influenced farmers to choose certified seeds were age, education, land area, family responsibilities, farming experience, and acceptance. Factors that affect the income of farmers who use certified seeds are land area and education, while farmers who use non-certified seeds are land area and revenue. This showed that farmer’s education greatly influences their willingness to accept new innovations including the use of certified seeds in farming The farmer’s average willingness to pay for certified and non-certified red chili seeds is Rp31.165/10 gram and Rp67.331/10 gram.
