Abstract

Urban farming in community gardens has been increasingly recognized as spaces that support various activities, from environmental sustainability, community resilience, to food security. Now, these spaces have gotten more attention due to their potential as tourist destinations, providing chances for cultural, educational, and experiential tourism activities. This study examines the potential of the community garden in Guwosari, especially Iroyudan, Bantul, as a tourist attraction using the role of space in sustainable tourism, place-making, and tourism geography. The possibility of a community garden as a tourist attraction is assessed using a qualitative approach to highlight the role of placemaking and particularly explores the key factors for integrating agritourism within urban tourism frameworks. Findings indicate that Iroyudan Community Garden offers rich experiential tourism opportunities, including educational farm tours, farm-to-table experiences, direct agricultural workshops, and cultural heritage integration. However, challenges such as infrastructure limitations, community readiness, and policy support must be addressed to ensure sustainable development.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the content validity, construct validity, and reliability of the instrument for evaluating the teaching process in higher education. This research is development research applying the ADDIE model from Molenda. The indicators evaluated consist of context, inputs, processes, and products. The sample consisted of 1200 students from eight faculties, each represented by three study programs. Data analysis uses three stages: content validity test analysis using the V -Aiken method involving six panellists or experts; construct validity test using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Quantitative descriptive analysis and interpretive qualitative analysis used the Miles and Huberman method. The results showed that the developed evaluation instrument had good proof of the validity of the content, with an average V-Aiken score of 0.752, which was in the high category. Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta's evaluation instrument, which was developed through the instrument, already meets the validity of an exemplary construct of a good loading factor value (> 0.3). It has a composite reliability score above 0.7 and Cronbach's alpha above 0.6. The analysis results show that all empirical test criteria indicate the data is fit against the developed model.

Abstract

Abstract: The Janissary Army was originally a key part of the Ottoman Turkish military and helped conquer parts of Asia and Europe. Over time, however, its members began to work in politics, business, and other areas, losing their military character. Because of this drop in numbers, Sultan Mahmud II disbanded the corps on June 15, 1826. This study seeks to investigate: This research aims to examine the origins, transformation, decline, and dissolution of the Janissary Force, as well as the consequences of its disbandment, through historical research encompassing topic selection, heuristic resource collection, source criticism, chronological interpretation, and historiography. The findings indicate that the Janissary Army, formed through the devshirme system, evolved from a military corps into a powerful socio-political force whose resistance to reform led to Sultan Mahmud II’s decisive dissolution of the corps, marking the beginning of Ottoman modernization. Mahmud II created the Mansur Army, which was trained in the European way. This was a big step toward military reform and centralization.

Abstract

This study explores the character values embedded in the local wisdom of Saparan Bekakak and examines their relevance in strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile within the context of history learning. The integration of cultural heritage in education supports the development of students who are both knowledgeable and rooted in national values. A qualitative research design was employed using a literature study and interviews with cultural practitioners of Saparan Bekakak. A content analysis approach was used to interpret primary data from interviews and secondary data related to the Pancasila Student Profile and character education. The study found that the Saparan Bekakak tradition contains rich character values, including religious devotion, independence, responsibility, mutual cooperation, tolerance, adherence to social norms, and creative problem-solving. These values align closely with the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. The integration of Saparan Bekakak's character values into Grade XI (Phase F) history learning in Senior High Schools through the CORE learning model supports the formation of 21st-century learners who possess both academic competence and strong character. This local wisdom offers a culturally relevant resource for developing students in line with the goals of the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing the importance of contextual and value-based education.

Abstract

Kolintang, a wooden percussion instrument from Minahasa, North Sulawesi, has evolved from a sacred ritual object into UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage in 2024. Despite this recognition, scholarship has not sufficiently examined how this transformation reshapes educational practice or how the instrument’s physical properties support inclusive music learning. This study examines Kolintang’s trajectory through an analytic autoethnographic approach grounded in five decades of direct practice within the pedagogical lineage of Petrus Kaseke, triangulated with interviews of fifteen key figures, including descendants of innovators Nelwan Katuuk and Petrus Kaseke, and empirical data from a 2024 training program for Deaf participants in Jakarta. The research documents Kolintang’s technical development from pentatonic to chromatic tuning, enabling engagement with global repertoires, and traces how diaspora communities in Java systematized ensemble-based pedagogy. Empirical findings show that ten Deaf participants achieved a mean rhythmic accuracy of 92.3 percent with a standard deviation of 5.8 percent through vibrotactile rather than auditory learning. The findings indicate that Kolintang’s sustainability depends not on static preservation but on cultural transmutation, defined as the strategic adaptation of material form to preserve philosophical and symbolic essence. Kolintang continues to function as a marker of diaspora identity, an instrument of Indonesian cultural diplomacy, and a culturally grounded medium for inclusive music education. This trajectory offers a model for sustaining intangible heritage in the twenty-first century by repositioning traditional arts as adaptive educational resources responsive to contemporary human needs.
