Abstract

The name of Gigantochloa taluh Widjaja & Astuti (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) was invalid because of failure to meet the requirements of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, that there was no herbarium location of type specimens was mentioned. A typification was provided here to address this issue.

Abstract

Since a large number of characters are now known for Freycinetia Gaudich. and Pandanus Parkinson species, it appears useful to consider their use in identifying plants from Java. Fieldwork carried out for this study has provided stronger foundation for understanding morphological variation within the species. This study was undertaken to have a better understanding on the morphology of the family in order to make a better species delimitation. Characters of habit, stem, leaves, auricles, bracts, peduncle and pedicel, inflorescence, staminate flowers (male), pistillate flowers (female), cephalia and berries were found useful in delimitation and identification of Javanese Freycinetia, while characters of habit, stem, prop root, marginal spine, leaves, bracts, inflorescentia, peduncle, staminate flowers (male), pistillate flowers (female), cephalia, drupes were found to be useful for distinguishing among species of Javanese Pandanus.

Abstract

Abstract

Institut Pertanian Bogor merupakan kampus dengan biodiversitas tinggi dan kondisi ekosistem yang masih terjaga dengan baik. Banyak tumbuhan yang dijumpai, salah satunya tumbuhan paku epifit yang sangat melimpah jumlah dan jenisnya, tetapi informasi struktur reproduksinya masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkarakterisasi struktur reproduksi tumbuhan paku epifit yang tumbuh di kawasan kampus IPB, Dramaga, Bogor. Tumbuhan paku epifit yang telah diperoleh diambil sorusnya dan diawetkan menggunakan alkohol 70%. Spora tumbuhan paku epifit diamati menggunakan mikroskop majemuk yang dihubungkan pada kamera optilab. Pengukuran spora tumbuhan paku dilakukan menggunakan aplikasi imageRaster v2.1 yang disajikan dalam bentuk gambar, tabel, kunci identifikasi, dan analisis deskriptif. Tumbuhan paku epifit yang diamati bervariasi pada susunan dan letak sorus serta ciri sporanya. Sorus berbentuk bulat dan garis. Sebagian besar sorus terletak pada tepi daun. Sebanyak 22 jenis tumbuhan paku yang memiliki spora bentuk monolete dengan laesura garis, satu jenis bentuk bulat, dan satu jenis bentuk tetrahedral-globose dengan laesura triradiate. Ukuran spora yang dijumpai yaitu medium, besar dan sangat besar. Semua spora memiliki nilai rasio P/E ≤1,00 dengan tipe peroblate, oblate, suboblate, oblate bulat dan prolate bulat. Permukaan perispora sangat beragam yaitu alate-angular, globules, shallow verrucae, verrucate, echinulate, tuberculate, rugate, globules, echinate, laevate, cristate, regulate, colliculate, granulose, dan costate-alate.

Abstract

Melona, Tacapa Gold, and Gama Melon Parfum are novel Melon genotypes that have been introduced for cultivation in the saline-prone coastal region of Bocor Beach, Kebumen, Central Jawa. Elevated salt concentrations in the area pose challenges, impacting yield. The potential of these new genotypes for saline land remains unexplored. This study aimed to assess the morphophysiological and molecular responses of these genotypes to salinity stress. Seeds were germinated in cocopeat and ABmix 3000 solution and treated with 220 mM NaCl until harvest. The analysis included morphology, chlorophyll content, proline accumulation, malondialdehyde levels, and gene expression were analyzed. After 1 week of salinity stress, the results showed reduced plant height, leaf number, stomatal density, percentage of opened stomata, and width and length of leaves. The malondialdehyde, proline, and root-shoot dry mass ratio increased. The expression of CSD1-1, P5CR, and late embryogenesis abundant genes increased under salinity treatment. Gama Melon Parfum exhibits salt tolerance, as indicated by higher P5CR gene expression, proline accumulation, and leaf-relative water content. P5CR gene expression, proline accumulation, and leaf-relative water content are valuable indicators of salt tolerance for assessing melon genotypes.

Abstract

Information on flower-visiting insects, especially pollinators of the pulasan plant (Nephelium ramboutan-ake), a species that tends to cross-pollinate, is essential for increasing fruit production. Unfortunately, there is minimal information on flower-visiting insects associated with pulasan. This research aimed to study the diversity and abundance of visiting insects on pulasan in the Mekarsari Fruit Garden, Bogor. Observations of insects were conducted using the fixed sample method, with samples taken every 20 minutes through direct observation from 06:00 am to 02:00 pm during the flowering period. Results showed that 24 insect species, belonging to 24 genera across six orders, visited the pulasan, with the order Diptera being the most dominant among the visiting insects. The potential insect species as pollinators of pulasan were Lathyrophthalmus sp. and Amata huebneri. Knowledge about flower-visiting insects plays an important role in the conservation of insects—especially pollinators—as well as the pulasan plant, a local species.

Abstract

A molecular analysis was conducted to determine whether Eugenia boerlagei Merr. (Myrtaceae) belongs to genus Eugenia or Syzygium based on sequences of cpDNA fragments namely atpB-rbcL intergenic spacer. The study used seven specimens of Syzygium sect. Jambosa, three of Syzygium sect. Syzygium, two of Eugenia s.s. and one of Eugenia boerlagei Merr. with Baeckea ovalifolia and B. tuberculata as the outgroup. The results show that Eugenia boerlagei is appropriately placed under the genus Syzygium.

Abstract

The ethnoecology of the Malay community to support the management of functional food source areas in Belitung Regency, Indone-sia. Reinwardtia 24(2): 199‒217. — The Malay community in Belitung Regency is rich in local knowledge about the management of the Belitung community landscape, which has been passed down from generation to generation. This local knowledge enables food production from its sources, but there is no information on the diversity and composi-tion of plants in the Belitung community's landscapes. This study aimed to analyze the diversity, composition, and conservation strategies of food plants in the Belitung community landscape. The study was conducted using the vege-tation analysis method, which created tiered square plots of various sizes. Plant conservation status is determined based on the ICS and the Important Value Index (IVI). The most common family found in all landscapes (rimba, bebak, kerangas bebak, kelekak, garden, homegarden) is Myrtaceae (21 species), except in rice fields, it is Poaceae, and in ume is Euphorbiaceae. Food plants are most found in homegarden landscapes (136 species included in 57 fami-lies). The cultivation and development of other potentials process must be carried out for plants with low/moderate IVI and high ICS, such as Ananas comosus, Arenga pinnata, and Cocos nucifera. Information from this research can sup-port efforts to diversify and provide food availability to realize food security based on local wisdom and local knowledge regarding the species diversity and the potential of local food plants in the Belitung Malay community. Traditional landscapes have an important role in providing sustainable food sources, as well as being a strong local identity, and providing economic contributions to the Belitung Malay community.
