Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and accuracy of milk progesterone kit as an early pregnancy diagnosis tool for Etawah cross goat. This study used 9 lactating female goats with weight in the range of 35-51 kgs and the ages ranging from 2 to 2.5 years old. Eight goats were subject to estrous synchronisation protocol using progesterone implant (CIDR-G) followed by prostaglandin administration and one goat was left to show natural estrous. Early pregnancy diagnosis using milk progesterone kits was carried out on day 18 until 22 following services. The accuracy of the kits for early pregnancy diagnosis was subsequently confirmed using ultrasonography (USG) examination on day 35 following services. The results of this study showed that estrous response by synchronization was 50%. Whereas one female goat showed estrous sign naturally and was subject to pregnancy diagnosis procedure using the milk progesterone kits after natural mating. Pregnancy diagnosis using milk progesterone kits and subsequent confirmation using USG was carried out in five goats (4 synchronized females and mated and 1 naturally estrous female and mated naturally). All 5 female goats showed negative results following pregnancy diagnosis using the kits throughout the whole 5 days examinations. While diagnosis of pregnancy as confirmed by USG showed one goat (number 6) positive. It can be concluded that milk progesterone kits on dairy cows are less effective for diagnosing pregnancy on Etawah cross goat. The accuracy of the kits for pregnancy diagnosis of not-pregnant status is 80% after confirmation using USG.Key words: CIDR-G, Ettawah goats, milk progesterone kits, ultrasonography

Abstract

This research aims to know the influence of the equilibration to the quality of the swamp buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) cement after thawing including: motility, and percentage of live spermatozoa. This research used the fresh cement from a 4 years old water buffalo was collected using an artificial vagina,and evaluation cement for macroscopic and microskopic to see if cement was worthy or not worthy to frozen. Good quality cement was diluted by adding Andromed, then semen were incorporated into the straw using the machine filling sealing followed by equilibrated with 3 treatment groups. Group I (n = 3 straw) with equilibration time of 3 hours, the Group II (n = 3 straw) with a time of equilibration was 5 hours, and group III (n = 3 straw) with equilibration a time of 7 hours. After equilibrated, straw frozen and stored in liquid N2 (BIBD Tuah Sakato procedures). The results show that the length of time the real equilibration effect (P 0.05) on the motility and percentage life of swamp buffalo spermatozoa. Equilibration 5 hours of time differs markedly with equilibration time 3 and 7 hours, motility, and percentage of live spermatozoa (44.15±1.70; 46.50±1.36 vs 14,55±1,58; 1.42±37.38 vs. 15.37±1.58; and 37.50±1.25). In conclusion, equilibration time is showed on the cement of swmp buffalo after 5 hours thawing.Key words: equilibration, swamp buffalo, thawing

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to compare estrous performance between kacang and PE goats after estrous inducted with PGF2 alpha (PGF2α). Fifteen female goats were used in this study and divided into two groups. Characteristics of goat used are clinically healthy, never giving birth, 1,5-3,0 years of age, and have undergone at least two times the regular cycle. Group I (KI) consisted of 10 kacang goats and group II (KII) consisted of 5 PE goats. All goats in both groups were estrous synchronized with 1 ml PGF2a intramuscularly. Estrous observation was done visually three times a day at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 4 p.m. Assessment of estrous intensity based on scoring method. The data of intensity and onset were analyzed by Mann Whitney test and estrous duration analyzed by t test. The result showed that intensity, onset, and duration of estrous in KI vs KII were 2.47±0.21 vs 2.25±0.00, 38.20±2.39 vs 84.40±8.53 hours, and 40.40±2.27 vs 46.40±4.56 hours respectively. It concluded that there was different estrous performance between kacang and PE goats following estrous synchronized with PGF2α.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efek pemberian ekstrak hipofisa sapi terhadap peningkatan  jumlah korpus luteum dan embri o sapi. Tiga ekor sapi aceh betina digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan status tidak bunting, minimal 2 bulan pascapartus, umur 3-5 tahun, sudah pernah beranak, dan sehat secara klinis. Seluruh sapi diinjeksi dengan ekstrak hipofisa pada hari ke-9, 10, dan 11 siklus estrus dengan dosis menurun  yaitu 10, 8, dan, 6 ml secara intramuskular  pada beberapa titik lokasi  penyuntikan dan diikuti dengan penyuntikan 0,5 ml prostaglandin F2-alfa (PGF2α, Prostavet®., Virbac S.A) 24 jam kemudian. Sapi diinseminasi pada saat puncak berahi  (diam dinaiki pejantan) dan diulang 24 jam kemudian. Koleksi embrio dilakukan pada hari ke-7 setelah inseminasi secara non-surgical menggunakan kateter Foley. Parameter yang diamati adalah jumlah korpus luteum  dan embrio. Data hasil penelitian dilaporkan secara deskriptif. Rata-rata tiap ekor sapi menghasilkan 4 korpus luteum sedangkan persentase perolehan embrio adalah 25% dengan jumlah embrio layak transfer sebanyak 1. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak hipofisa dapat meningkatkan respons superovulasi sapi aceh

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui lama waktu proses regresi corpus luteum (CL) menggunakan teknik ultrasonografi (USG) pada sapi aceh yang disinkronisasi estrus dengan prostaglandin F2 alfa (PGF2α) secara intramuskular. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 10 ekor sapi aceh yang telah didiagnosis sehat secara reproduksi, umur 5-8 tahun, bobot badan 250-350 kg, dan mempunyai minimal 2 siklus regular dengan skor kondisi tubuh 3-4 pada skala skor 5. Pada hari ke-1 dilakukan diagnosis keberadaan CL, kemudian pada hari ke-2 dilakukan penyuntikan 25 mg PGF 2α secara intramuskular, dan pada hari ke-3 sampai hari ke-5 dilakukan pengamatan regresi CL. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan disajikan dalam bentuk rataan dan simpangan baku. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa rataan diameter CL setelah penyuntikan PGF2α masing-masing adalah 6,25±2,71; 4,50±1,77; 3,25±0,89 mm. Gambaran proses regresi CL yang diamati menggunakan USG mengalami penurunan dari hari ke-1 sampai hari ke-3 setelah penyuntikan dan akan diikuti dengan ovulasi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa PGF2α  melisiskan CL selama tiga hari sampai terjadinya peristiwa ovulasi.

Abstract

This research aims to know the accuracy of transcutaneus ultrasonography (USG) to determine number of kacang goat (Capra sp.) foetal. The animals used in this research were 6 goats aged of 1.5-2.5 years old, have a normal estrus cycle and mated naturally. The inspection was conducted after 53 to 97 days of pregnancy. The results showed that two goats were diagnosed as positive single pregnant (one foetus), and the others (four goats) were diagnosed as positive multiple pregnant (two foetus). Two goats were diagnosed single pregnant confirmed at delivered time in which all goats gave birth to one goat. All of the goats diagnosed positive multiple pregnant were gave birth to two goats. The accuracy of using transcutaneus USG to determine the number of single foetus and twins are 100%.Key words: ultrasonography, transcutaneus, accuracy, kacang goat, foetus
