Abstract

This research discusses the critical role of phosphatase enzymes in soil, particularly in the phosphorus cycle and soil fertility. Acid and alkaline phosphatases are identified as crucial components, with their activities serving as indicators of soil fertility. This study evaluates the soil chemical and biological characteristics in mangosteen orchards in the Mangosteen Thematic Village, specifically in monoculture and polyculture cultivation patterns on slopes ranging from 8-15%. Soil pH, organic C, available P, total P, soil respiration, microbial C-biomass, and phosphatase enzyme activities were assessed at 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm depths. Total P did not show significant changes based on cultivation patterns. The results show that the soil pH values tend to be acidic to slightly acidic (5.21- 5.45) with no significant differences based on depth. Organic C, available P, soil respiration, microbial C-biomass, and acid phosphatase enzyme activity were higher in polyculture cultivation patterns but alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity was higher in monoculture. The cultivation pattern influences the dynamics of agricultural ecosystems and should be considered in land management to enhance productivity and soil ecosystem balance.

Abstract

Abstract

This research on intercropping productivity of several soybean varieties based on pruning corn plant leaves was carried out on road Alai Kapalo Koto, Limau Manis, Pauh District, Padang at an altitude of 101 meters above sea level from July to November 2022. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between various soybean types and pruning. The best corn leaf for plant development and production, as well as intercropping productivity. This study used a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. The first component was soybean cultivars, which had four treatment levels (Anjasmoro, Grobogan, Devon 1, and Dega 1), and the second factor was the quantity of corn leaf pruning, which had four treatment levels (Pruning 0 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 Corn Plant Leaves). The number of clipped leaves is determined from the base of the stem. The findings revealed that there was no interaction between the quantity of leaf pruning applied to maize plants and select soybean varieties and plant development and yield in an intercropping system. trimming half of the leaves of a maize plant has a greater influence on NKL and ATER values than other trimming levels. When compared to other soybean varieties, the Anjasmoro soybean variety produced higher ATER soybean yields. According to the findings of this study, 1/2 leaf pruning of corn plants and the Anjasmoro type of soybean plants should be used in an intercropping system

Abstract

The use of ex-limestone mining land as an alternative planting medium requires technological innovation to overcome nutrient limitations and unfavorable soil conditions. This study aims to determine the effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) types and Yomari liquid organic fertilizer (POC) concentrations on the growth of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) seedlings at the pre-nursery stage in limestone mining waste soil. This experimental research was conducted in February - May 2025. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Garden UPT, Faculty of Agriculture, and Plant Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang. The design used was a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, namely the type of AMF (Glomus sp., Gigaspora sp., and a combination of Glomus sp. x Gigaspora sp.) and the concentration of Yomari POC (0; 0.5; 1.0; and 1.5 mL L⁻¹) which were each repeated three times, resulting in 36 experimental units. Each experimental unit consisted of 9 plants, with 5 samples for destructive observation and 4 samples for non-destructive observation, resulting in a total of 324 sample plants. The results showed no significant interaction between AMF types and POC concentrations on all growth parameters. However, individually, the AMF Glomus sp. type proved to be the most effective in supporting the growth of oil palm seedlings, as indicated by a high percentage of root colonization, increased phosphorus (P) uptake, and an increase in root length and volume. Meanwhile, the application of POC Yomari at a concentration of 1.0 mL L⁻¹ resulted in the best seedling growth, indicated by an increase in P uptake parameters, root length, and root volume. This indicates that the application of Glomus sp. AMF and POC Yomari at a dose of 1.0 mL L⁻¹ is effective in supporting the growth of oil palm seedlings in post-limestone mine soil media. In addition, the results of this study provide a scientific basis for the use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and liquid organic fertilizer as a sustainable soil management strategy for post-mining land rehabilitation and improvement of oil palm nursery practices.

Abstract

The conversion of fertile land into industrial areas and construction development has contributed to the decline of rice production in Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the rice fields to the sub-optimal land, i.e. lands with high levels of Fe and Al and low soil pH. One of the solutions that can potentially solve the problem is choosing varieties of rice that can adapt to the suboptimal land environment; the rice varieties can be obtained by estimating rice genetic parameters and selecting the optimal planting methods. One method that can potentially improve rice yield is “System of Rice Intensification”, or SRI method. Our study was conducted in the rice fields on suboptimal land at Pasar Ambacang, Kuranji District, Padang, Sumatra, from December 2019 to April 2020. The aims of the experiment are to determine the genetic parameters and responses of the three rice varieties to suboptimal land using the SRI method. A complete randomized design with four replications was used to set up the experiment using three varieties of rice, i.e. “Batang Piaman”, “Bujang Marantau”, and “IPB3S”. Based on the plant growth measurement and analysis of the genetic parameters, we found that the plant growth characters, particularly height and panicles length, had high heritability and genetic progression values.

Abstract

Rice stands as an important staple crop in Indonesia and Asia, prompting endeavors to enhance its production. One such technology, aimed at intensifying rice cultivation, involves optimizing plant density utilizing the "jajar legowo" system. This research was conducted within community rice fields located in Pasar Ambacang, Kuranji District, Padang City, West Sumatra, Indonesia, spanning from February 2020 to June 2020. The primary objective of this study was to assess the potential of the jajar legowo planting system, in conjunction with varying dosages of kieserite, to increase lowland rice yields. The study employed a two-factor experiment in a completely randomized design. The first factor is the jajar legowo types: A (25 cm x 12.5 cm x 50 cm) and B (25 cm x 25 cm x 50 cm). The second factor involved different kieserite dosages, comprising three levels (0, 150, 300 kg.ha-1). Each treatment combination was replicated four times. Our investigation unveiled that rice panicle length reached 27.20 cm under the influence of jajar legowo type A with a kieserite dosage of 150 kg.ha-1. Conversely, with the application of jajar legowo type B alongside a kieserite dose of 300 kg.ha-1, the rice panicle length increased to 27.88 cm. The highest yield was obtained with jajar legowo type A at a dose of 300 kg.ha-1, producing 5.35 tons.ha-1. It is recommended to implement the jajar legowo type A cropping pattern with the addition of 150 kg.ha-1 of kieserite, or jajar legowo type B with the addition of 300 kg.ha-1 of kieserite.
