Abstract

Poverty is a social reality in the dynamics of human life in the world. This social reality is also part of the Church's concern. The Church pays attention, cares, and conveys its teachings about poverty and ways to overcome it through its dynamic structure, which includes Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium. This study is literature research, with Indonesian contextualization. By textual analysis, this paper shows that in reflecting on various realities related to poverty, especially by using the scalpel of Theology of Liberation, the Church has concluded that poverty, especially structural poverty, is the fruit of social sin. Social sin is an individual sin built in such a way with various kinds of conditioning to become a massive structure. This study recommends the need for personal and communal repentance to destroy this structure of sin and, at the same time, lift people out of structural poverty.

Abstract

This article critically examines the concept of pluralism within the study of religion, addressing both its theoretical foundations and practical applications across various countries. Religious pluralism is understood as the recognition of religious diversity as a social and theological reality that must be approached with openness, dialogue, and mutual respect. Employing a qualitative approach through literature review, this study analyzes key works by Paul F. Knitter, Wilfred Cantwell Smith, and Alwi Shihab, while also presenting case studies from Indonesia, India, the United States, and Western Europe. The findings reveal that pluralism is not merely a moral ideal but also a necessary framework for promoting peaceful coexistence amid difference. Despite facing challenges such as fundamentalism, discrimination, and identity politics, pluralism remains relevant as a foundation for inclusive and transformative religious studies. The article recommends strengthening interfaith education, supporting diversity-oriented policies, and encouraging religious leaders to foster interreligious dialogue. Contribution:  The study offers actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing interfaith education, supporting policies that encourage diversity, and promoting interreligious dialogue, thereby enriching both academic discourse and practical efforts toward inclusive and transformative religious engagement.

Abstract

This study explores the status and role of women within Sikh doctrine, aiming to contribute to and enrich academic discussions on the intersection of religious doctrine and gender studies. Using a qualitative approach that focuses on religion and gender, the research employs a library-based methodology, analyzing various sources and relevant prior studies. The findings demonstrate that women in Sikhism are granted equal status to men, rooted in the doctrine that emphasizes an intimate relationship between humans and the divine, where gender holds no significance in the connection to God. Moreover, the study delves into human relationships as shaped by behaviors, attitudes, and societal norms during the Sikh Gurus' era, illustrating the ideal dynamics between men and women. Despite Sikh teachings of equality, women in the Sikh community still face challenges in accessing leadership roles, as cultural and historical narratives often prioritize male dominance. The contributions of Sikh women have been historically marginalized, leaving subsequent generations with limited role models. This research offers both theoretical insights into Sikhism and gender and practical implications for encouraging the Sikh community, particularly men, to uphold Guru Nanak’s vision of gender equality.

Abstract

Abstract: Gender equality is one of the issues that need to be realized globally through the ideas in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Indonesia, villages are the smallest level of government structure, having an important role in achieving SDGs at the national level by contributing 74% of national achievements considering that 90% of Indonesia's government areas are villages and 72% of Indonesian people live in villages. Darmaraja Village, Lumbung District, Ciamis Regency is one of the villages that must carry out its development by referring to SGDs achievements, one of which is realizing SDGs no. 5 concerning gender equality in villages. Villages with all their characteristics, uniqueness, and village potential certainly have their challenges in realizing gender equality in the village. This research tries to describe the results of Darmaraja Village's SDGs regarding gender equality and then analyze the obstacles to achieving gender equality in the village. The research results concluded that the SDG's achievement regarding gender equality in Darmaraja Village was still very far from ideal with only a score of 34.91 points. Then the factors that become obstacles are the low level of education of the Darmaraja Village community, patriarchal culture, and misogynistic understanding of women through religious texts. Keywords: Gender Equality, SDGs, Village

Abstract

This study aims to extract the inclusive soteriological formulation of Aswaja from the text Jauharah al-Tawhid and the tradition of syarh, assess its implications for the design of intra-Islamic dialogue, and develop operational tools in the form of SOPs, checklists, rubrics, and facilitation protocols that are publicly accountable. The study uses a two-track qualitative approach. The text track is carried out through a close hermeneutic reading of ibarat-syarh by mapping usul/furu and the status of dalil (qat’i/zanni). The application track involves interviews and FGDs with facilitators, kiai, and community activists. Data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis, supplemented by source-method-researcher triangulation, member-checking, audit trail, and a Delphi-based consensus test. The research findings formulate five principles of Aswaja's inclusive soteriology: firmness in proposals (qathi), openness in furu (zanni), rejection of takfir (contempt) against sinners, tawaqquf (religious tolerance) in the face of inconclusive evidence, and recognition of the udhr bil-jahl (the evil-doer) and ahl al-fatrah (the people of fatrah) as soteriological variables. These principles are mapped into dialogue SOPs in the form of issue classification, freezing of khilafiyyat (the wrong-doer), reason-giving procedures, tawaqquf (the wrong-doer), restorative language, the udzr bil-jahl protocol, and official clarification channels. The findings can be applied in the Religious Moderation program, the framework for Islamic intra-faith dialogue, the design of community-based conflict prevention policies, curriculum development in Islamic universities, and mediator training. These results are useful for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), government institutions, interfaith organizations, and community facilitators in promoting tolerance and reducing sectarian tensions. This research introduces a two-track Delphi-based model that weaves classical texts into a community policy framework, as an example of "hermeneutics that yields policy." Its contribution lies in combining normative theology with practical instruments of facilitation, offering transferable design principles for building tolerance and religious dialogue in a structured manner.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore how the Instagram account @walmajelena functions as a digital space for expressing the religiosity of Catholic women and to examine how its content shapes the followers’ perspectives, understanding, and spiritual experiences in the digital sphere. Methodology: This study uses a qualitative approach within a sociological and media studies framework with descriptive-analytical methods. Data were collected through digital observation and analysis of content and responses from followers of the account. Findings: The findings reveal that @walmajelena serves as a warm, reflective, and contextual medium of faith expression for Catholic women. Through four major themes—prayer, worship attire, Catholic identity, and faith education—the account constructs a dynamic and participatory spiritual space relevant to younger generations. Interaction between the account owner and her followers illustrates a collective process of religious identity construction, turning social media into a site for the negotiation, affirmation, and internalization of evolving faith values. Research Implications: These findings demonstrate that social media can act as an interactive and dialogical sacred space that empowers lay Catholic women to articulate faith beyond institutional boundaries. The study highlights the need for digital–theological literacy and pastoral accompaniment to ensure that digital evangelization remains both spiritually grounded and contextually relevant. Originality/Value: This research offers an original contribution by applying Berger and Luckmann’s social construction theory to explain how religious identity is dynamically shaped through digital interaction. It also presents a new understanding of female digital religiosity, showing how personal faith narratives evolve into collective expressions of Catholic identity within Indonesia’s plural digital culture.

Abstract

The coastal environmental crisis is a serious problem that demands a multidimensional approach that is not only technical, but also touches on the spiritual and socio-cultural aspects of the community. This study aims to formulate a Madurese contextual ecotheology model as a strategy to strengthen coastal environmental resilience, with a case study in Kampung Pasir, Sumenep Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic and phenomenological methods, through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies of the socio-religious life of coastal communities. Data analysis was carried out with a thematic and interpretative approach to identify the relationship between religious values and ecological practices of the community. The results of the study indicate that theological values such as the concept of caliph, trust, prohibition fasad(damage), as well as the principles of blessing and harmony have shaped the environmental ethics that live within the community. These values are internalized through the role of religious leaders, social interaction patterns, religious traditions, and mutual cooperation mechanisms that regulate human relations with nature. This study also formulates a Madurese contextual ecotheology model that encompasses five main dimensions: theological, socio-communal, environmental education, ecological practices, and local policies. This model offers an integrative framework that connects faith, local culture, and environmental conservation strategies in a sustainable manner. This study concludes that the Madurese coastal context-based ecotheology approach has strategic potential as a guideline for strengthening environmental resilience rooted in spirituality and local wisdom, and is relevant for the development of community-based environmental policies in coastal areas of Indonesia.
